  • yess the u2 360 song finally found it :D:D

  • in Ashes to Ashes, his song from 1980, has the meaning of this one. As the chorus goes:

    Ashes to ashes

    Funk to funky

we know major Tom's a junkie,

    ...

  • Im pretty sure the song is about Major Tom going into space, and then floating off because he loses power.

  • This is amazing, keep up you good work!

  • Major Tom obviously wore a David Biwie shirt.

  • @ziggyvideo 1-18-12 There should be more! So what happens? Are they stuck on another Planet? (Ziggy Stardust & the Dog :D )

  • @ziggyvideo 1-18-12 Hahaha :D LOVE IT! Amazing vid! You did an Awesome job! Is that IMAN in the vid? You made this in 2007?? So has Jimmy Fallon seen it? I'll send to him & his Parody he did using this song with the NFL payer Tim Tebow on NBC Latenight with Jimmy Fallon. It was Hilarious. His vid is on youtube @LNightFan1 (I think. NET Wars!! over a 2:39 vid! SICK!) Over 1 MIL Views a few days back! Did you send to DAVID BOWIE? (Hard to find BUT IMAN has Cosmetic Co. NYC >$25MILyr)

  • This is really good. You should be proud of this work. I think it's spot on with the song. Thank you for making it.

  • 0:55 I'm afraid I can't do that... Dave

  • This is a perfect version of space oddity.

  • At first I thought: This should be interesting. Then I thought: Why am I still watching this? Oh, yeah. It's the only tolerable video that I could find. Any way, Thanks!

  • Funnily enough, as a child I always pictured Major Tom as having an adorable face and tuft of blonde hair... :/

  • got to go to yomacon :')

  • No wonder your kids like this series, it comes complete with a David Bowie soundtrack! :D

  • as stated before, he wrote this song after seeing 2001 a space odyssey!

  • The meaning of this song is the FAKE Mission to the moon, the whole Apollo Project.

  • @geeksgaloremarmora No it isn't you idiot. Bowie isn't a moron, so he wouldn't be mentally handicapped to think the Apollo missions were faked.

  • @geeksgaloremarmora I'm sure Bowie just loves people who think that their idea on the meaning of the song is the only right one.

  • he was stoned and wrote it after seeing 2001...its that simple

    google it

  • the song is about hollywood and being a star and how hard it is for them

  • @TheLoft420 but i love the vid

  • @TheLoft420 more for a rock star the space ship is the tour bus always being on the road and all that good stuff

  • It means whatever the fuck you want it to, it was inspired and you're inspired to listen to it.

  • umm

  • OMG this vid is epic ty so much

  • brilliant haaa

  • Beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • He really made the grade....

  • What if Major Tom's only regret while drifting alone lost in space (for those who want to interpret that way)...

"Sigh...The people will never know what shirt wore"

  • planet earth is blue and theres nothing i can do.Herrlich

  • bowie ruled

  • Song is about Heroin very siple to figure it out

  • <3 major eargasm

  • i love this i laughed so freaking hard nice

  • Am flitting around doing various things and have ended up back here.... have seen that one bit of my previous info was imprecise: Bowie's cocaine addiction started around 1974, not in the late 70s, though it continued (and escalated) for some time until he managed to kick it.

  • Clarification for anyone not familiar with Bowie's work, since I don't mean to slander the man: When Ashes to Ashes was released (1980), Bowie was no longer a drug addict; he had kicked the habit by then.

  • @Rev1913Rev1916

But wouldnt it make sense that he was writing about him being an addict than? Most people write about things that have occurred to them, not about what is going to happen to them.

  • @loggerbomb I don't fully understand your comment. Here's the order of events: In 1969 Space Oddity was released as a single. No reference to drugs in that song, imo. It's common knowledge DB was (is) interested in stuff like space travel. Five yrs later, around 1974, he became addicted to cocaine. Around 1976 he kicked the habit. In 1980 he released Ashes to Ashes, which IS about drug addiction. In Ashes he was writing about what had happened to him.

  • @loggerbomb In other words, when DB wrote Space Oddity, his drug addiction was still in the future.

  • Bowie has always been interested in out-there stuff. Like space travel, strange people on the fringes of society, etc.

  • Space Oddity is not about drug abuse. Ashes to Ashes, yes. Space Oddity, no. Bowie got into coke in a big way around the late 70s. In Ashes to Ashes Bowie used the Major Tom figure from Space Oddity as an alter ego. In other words, he used Major Tom in a figurative way to describe himself. In plain English, Bowie was acknowledging in Ashes to Ashes that the clean person he used to be (at the time of Space Oddity) had become a drug addict.

  • @phailez: Yes you're right, the song was before the Berlin phase, but I think this does not change the meaning of the song.

  • This song is about drug abuse. David Bowie was living in Berlin in the Seventies, he saw many people suffering from drug abuse, hitting themselves into space, where "ground-control" could not reach them anymore. He himself was on drugs at this times...

  • @birebi This song was released in the 60s...

  • Nice...unexpectedly very nice.

  • My wee boy is a big fan of Lunar Jim, and I am a big Bowie fan. What a great combination!

  • I always take my protein pills.....But I can never find my helmet.....

  • @HippieJimi A visit to the doctor might help you with that (small?) problem......

  • what the name of this kid show

  • @hateUhuman "Lunar Jim"

  • hÎhi_âNY_gûýs_wánt_tO_chÅt_wÏth_mÉ

  • "ashes to ashes, funk to funky, we know major tom´s a junkie..."

  • Great! Lets hope your kids don't realize yet that the song doesnt have a good ending lol!

  • Indian leaders asked NASA authorities give a letter to the inhabitants on the moon claiming that they are relatives.Obviously moon landing was fake so the authorities read the letter. It was writing ' Never trust them , never sign a treaty with them'

  • great control the friends of bieber

  • @rubbersouth What? Do you mean 'Ground' Control?

  • aww! so beautiful...!! :3

  • We are born in the universe,it's not commen as we go trough the day,

look at the moon!!!Look at the stars!!!! Is there life on Mars?

  • Such a sad song! But it`s really beautiful !It moves my heart!

  • its great! :] very well made vid!

    thank you!

  • Tintin et Milou sur la Lune T_T

Tintin and his dog on the moon T_T (REM would be happy , more than putting a man , they put a dog too on the moon)

  • Wij zijn de levende planeet.

Wij zijn dat grote schip dat rondom de zon draait.

Wij zijn op onszelf ook een schip,

    uniek...

Pas als we in de haven onze vracht afleveren hebben we niet tevergeefs geleefd...

  • 3:19, a few too many protein pills i think...

  • thats not lunar jim, its tintin

  • "allo Tintin ici la Terre !"

  • @63virgini Trop !!

  • This is amazing!!!

  • thats hillarious! crap i cant spell thanks twenty first century!

  • Genius.....well done!

  • LOL

  • hahah this is awesome. but i must say i burst out laughing when the robot was doing the lasso at the guitar solo 3:39 that was just hilarious for some reason

  • this video is way too up beat for Space Oddity

  • Can anyone help me with the tabs of the begining? I think it's C Em Am XX D7. What is the chord at "XX"??

  • todays un you know , generation , like cant , you know , well, like , make like original um music . Um , like they must um steal you know , um of the older like generation as um the modern like music is um PROLFEED as um like in 1984 george orwell.

  • @waniati well um, ya know, uh....said!

  • @waniati you don't use "um's" in writing.. Today's generation can't speak properly either.

  • @waniati You are overestimating today's youth. 100% have no fucking idea who George Orwell (Eric Blair) was. They don't read, can't spell or speak properly. A lost generation; and it's downhill from here.

  • @didipipibi

1984 is a required reading in my high school, and many also read Animal Farm. I don't think that just because everyone in my generation does not revert instantly to what previous generations did that you have a right to overgeneralize. I don't like when people talk and write like they are idiots, but at least I don't treat them like they definitely are.

  • @didipipibi 100%? As a member of the same generation that you're talking about who's read a few of Orwell's books (1984, Animal Farm, Coming Up For Air), as a member of the same generation you're talking about who reads, and can spell and speak properly, I think you need to sort out your fucking superiority complex. Sure, you can say that some of us are lost. But don't ever generalise and don't ever say that 100% of us are lost.

  • @didipipibi

Get of your high horses and thank this generation for the technology that is allowing pompous asses like you to relive your memories. No! I did not read George Orwell; So what? Did you read the manual of utilizing multi-core processors? Perhaps KidZ from this generation are rather read that! Someone from this generation could b from anywhere and for 50% or more English may not even be their first language .

  • I love this song :)

  • This is very cool :) But i hope your kids don´t know what the lyrics are about :D

  • @LubbiGunn What do you mean? Isn't the song seriously about space and all that crap? I am only 24 so cut me some slack on not knowing the "real" meaning behind it. Seriously tho, I always thought it was the sad tale about a lonely astronaut in his ship who wanted to come home.

  • @Danfrombackhome Don't worry about it. David "was" a drug user but I also believe the song is about space. Elton John also wrote Rocket Man about the same time. Yea, he was a major drug user too. I think it is legitimate to say the song is about space.

  • @Danfrombackhome What I get is an astronaut who's mission gets cut off from mission control. "Ground Control to Major Tom, your curcuit's dead there's something wrong....". Rocket Man from Elton John follows that line a little more.

  • @Danfrombackhome

I always got that he was an astronaut who was so lonely in space that he killed himself, which is why ground control couldn't reach him (" your curcuit's dead, something's wrong, can you hear me, Major Tom?")

  • @Danfrombackhome Behind the tale, I think it’s a metaphor about whole human kind. “Time to leave the capsule” is the birth. “Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil” as written in the Bible (New American Standard Bible ©1995).

  • @Danfrombackhome im 18 an i know there's a bit more to it than that

  • Fantastic, i love David Bowie

  • The music at 2:15 always gives me chills, the star only added to that.

  • very good video!

  • This is just fantastic. I just fell in love with this song all over again. The vid editing is superb. Thanks for posting.

  • @CatoAnt I referenced Major Tom while filming a Zorb Ball in action in Sydney Australia in October 2010. (See the video response).

What's a Zorb Ball? Something really far out and spacey, (as Ziggy Stardust would've said). Like floating in a tin can far above the moon ...

  • today i get drunk , and i really cry lissening this sonng! how many memories

  • @Pequenno54 wow xD i didnt remember that

  • Okay folks! Now this is not funny!!! I expect to envision this kind of freaky, tripped out animation, while listening to Bowie's Space Oddity tune ... fried out on acid!!! The playdo people got to be melted down and scraped! This is like freakin trippin me out!!!!
