I agree. I'll take Moraz over Wakeman also. Adam has hit the nail on the head. I lament how he just seemed to drop off the radar screen with very few solo works to listen to and enjoy. Oh well!
Wow...he just played one of the craziest things I've ever seen and when he's done, only minimal applause?!?!? I would be screaming "Wooooo!!!!". These people are boring.
I was at this show. I can't believe there's video of it. I dragged my wife there and she was annoyed with the whole prog rock improvised vibe of it. It's GREAT to see this again and have some context to appreciate his amazing chops!
funny thing about Moraz is he is so good on a piano but not half as good on a synth or and organ and his choice of sounds usally suck. I remember watching him play the Queenspark show with yes. His piano solo was great but the rest of the show blew donkey. I still prefer Banks and Wakeman all day long
With all due respect, I think not. Moraz is tecnically much better than Wakeman - I can prove that because I can play anything Wakeman can play, and I can't play much by Moraz or Emerson (when he was in his prime!).
since i was 14 years old and i´m now 45 that i listen to Rick Wakeman music with Yes and with is band,i saw him play in 1984 and with yes in 1990 all the music that he made is fantastic,so i´m sorry but for me he´s still the man.
sound chaser is my fave song ever-live i have heard 33 versions-all different with different effects i have never heard before every show...incredible
In the context of these particular CHAT tour shows, he would either play a piece as it was written and originally recorded, or he would "stretch" and improvise. This piece is a good example of the latter, with flares and themes spliced into the core piece.
I was at the Moody Blues concert with Patrick playing in Dallas. Must have been 87. It was his playing that attracted me to the album then to later discover he was with Yes. In an interview he said relayer would have been even better but he was the villan because he was always so pissed that Chris, Eddie and Steve were so stoned that it effected the quality of the album especfially with Eddie at Chris's studio.
Yes the first chords are similar to the Awakening piece, great. What could have been that album with Moraz instead of Wakeman? Great question, since in my opinion, Relayar is the best Yes album. Moraz managed to rewire the whole music of Yes in the good sense. The others members didn't like it (except A. White), and they don't like to talk too much about that period. Something similar happened with the Moody Blues (they even "deleted" the Moraz period!). A strong musical personality.
The question always is...who's the better keyboardist, Wakeman or Moraz or Emerson? Personally I'd rank Wakeman dead last, and it's clips like this that tend to prove my opinion heheh. Moraz's playing is just so dang tasty- great ideas, perfect technique.
i agree. moraz definitely blew wakeman out of the water on pure technical skill, but he was so under utilized on Relayer... emerson and moraz... thats close.. i love emersons jazz playing, he had a real flair. I still think on pure technical skill, moraz was probably the best.
I'll take Moraz over Wakeman any day of the week, I wish Patrick had recorded more with Yes and I think Relayer is among their best work. Moraz and Emerson is a tie for me, they are both great in their individual ways.
He's the one that's amazing but harder to define. Not that that's a bad thing. His solo album Story of i is from another planet! I recommend it to all.
this man is really a yes man, very talented and inspired !! So sorry this band slipped for money reasons and son on ! So disappointed i am !!! However, yes are a great band !!
his hands move so fast that the camera can't even pick them up completely, I really wish he was on more releases

@89naturegirl I believe it was in the YesYears Book or one of the biography books on yes. I believe he was just too professional for them.
