I love them both. They are both equal, except that I think Adrian has a better style of lead and solos, they are very well composed and very melodic. Plus I think he's the best musician along with Steve in the band. Dave's lead and solos are awesome as well. Iron Maiden is even more powerful with Janick in the band. How awesome is it to have 3 killer guitarists in the same band.

just because something is hard to play doesnt make it better-if you take the best solos, often it is one note played with impeccable timing with just the right vibrato that lifts your spirit -Guitarists (professional or otherwise) should remember bb king once said That playing and composing guitar is about getting whats in your head onto the fretboard-Adrian and dave sure get down most of their ideas that make them arguably the greatest metal band of all time

Murray has more technical skills but Smith has more soul and epicness.

Adrian's work is incredibly underrated, he has played most of Iron Maiden's great solos. (Stranger in a Strange Land, Alexander the Great, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Rime of the Ancient Mariner (1st one), Paschendale, Caught Somewhere in Time (2nd), Wasted Years, Sea of Madness and more. Dave has played great solos too, Powerslave for example.

They're both fantastic and they're a team but I prefer H.

Dave is a very fast guitarist and has a beautiful tone, but seems a bit limited technically. He does lots of smooth legato runs.

Adrian is always experimenting...using different time signatures, trying different scales and effects pedals, changing his tone...plus, he writes a lot more music than Dave.

I love both of them, but Adrian is a far more well-rounded musician. Davey is a great guy and the ultimate team player (in the band the WHOLE time with Steve).

Adrian seems a little blusier in my opinion, and Dave is a little Mozartish, lots of trills and nice scales. Not to say that each can't play like the other, but just in their normal soloing that's the feel I get. This was, and is, my favortie metal band of all time, mostly because of these two. Thank you for sharing this!!! And Janick only compliments them both. Love the new stuff as well as the classic Maiden. Oi, UP THE IRONS!!!!!

@wariogod i think youve got them reversed or something. adrians playing is much smoother and "legato" (owed to his blues background) than daves staccato-like arpeggios and hammerons. its easier to distinguish that difference if you listen to the recorded songs and know whos doing the solo.

They are old school freinds, there is no rivalry between them. I always idolised Davey but now I believe they are equally as good, maybe Dave is more of a performer than Adrian, but their skills are pretty equal.
