rickosuave29, the core of the democrat health plan is what's called the "Public Option." The public option is a government health insurance program akin to Medicare, which would be open to anyone. Kinda like a modified single-payer system.
Your employer will have every incentive to dump you into the so-called public option and pay an 8% payroll tax instead of covering you under private insurance. Once in the Public Option you cannot leave. It will be illegal to ever own private insurance again

Clunkers was merely a payback to Union thugs. But the principle was good -- put money back in the hands of business and consumers and you get economic lift.

Recompile: hard to say in the space. The few thousand extra you gain by trading a junker could be a short lived gain by getting in debt for say, $20,000 more. Lose your job in six months and that could be a major problem. And no, I'm not a Bush supporter as everyone thinks.

I never understood why people think that Cash 4 Clunkers was a failure.
If anything, the program was a victim of it's own success. It was so successful, in fact, that the program ran out of money in it's first week. (The first billion was supposed to last until November)

recompile: Some dealers are almost bankrupt because they may not get their money. Secondly, did you study which cars sold best ? The only GM car (Spot #10) was the Chevy Cobalt, the other 4 cars were Fords (not part of government motors) and the other 6 were JAPANESE cars, Cash for Clunkers helped sell more JAPANESE cars and did not help Chrysler and barely helped GM.
And crushing good running cars is wasteful when we should be careful with our money at a time like this.

1) The goals of C4C weren't entirely economic. It was still a success on those grounds.
2) Many dealers ran out of GM, Chevrolet, and other American-made vehicles.
3) The vehicles that were traded-in were not crushed, just the engine destroyed.
4) It's better for the economy if people spend money. It's better for the individual if they save.
5) Dealers will get paid, there was a bit of a back-log in claims caused by the programs success.

recompile: In times like this junking decent cars is wasteful. And I dont like the fact our tax dollars went towards people getting new cars. Once an engine is destroyed the replacement cost often outweighs the value of the car. In the end it only helped sell more Japanese cars and not GM and Chrysler cars. It did not help the American car companies, which are the ones that need our help.

GM and Chrysler did okay, but not as well as Ford, with an impressive reduction in their 'sales slide'
Overall, the light vehicle market dropped only 12% -- the smallest drop in 14 months.
It definitely helped the US auto industry out. No sensible person questions that.

recompile: Some dealers gave $4,000 + for $800 cars. They may not get their money. Think if you just "gave away" $3,000 for each car sold and sold 100 + cars. Do you not see a problem ? Some dealers here in Cali are in seriouos trouble now, their profit margin on new cars is not that high.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has guaranteed that dealers will see their money.
There were many delays in payment as the system in place simply could not handle the volume of requests.
Auto manufacturers have responded by floating loans (some around 60 days) to make up for the delays in payment from the overwhelmed cash for clunkers program.
C4C has a new system (designed to handle more than twice the volume of the original) and additional staff. Dealers will get paid.

The problem is many dealers are already in trouble and simply cannot wait that long for those kind of funds. Your employer will have every incentive to dump you into the so-called public option and pay an 8% payroll tax instead of covering you under private insurance. Once in the Public Option you cannot leave. It will be illegal to ever own private insurance again

The problems with our corporate run health care is the government, over the last several decades they've lifted regulations on some of the biggest corporations, allowing them to keep jacking up prices untill the poor could'nt afford medical care. Sure people get cancer from the onslaught of many things building toward the tipping point of cancer. That's a serious issue. The government does need to regulate the corporations and set very strict standards on toxic chemicals (including banning the ones that are carcinogenic that get out into the environment). They only use real, natural, organic (meaning no pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones, etc. used on the farm) ingredients and they are some of the most awesome tasting breads, pies, cookies, etc. I have ever tasted. It's time we started supporting our local farmers and farms. Farmers markets are an excellent place to start.

The vast majority of Canadians are outraged at the American bullshit that comes from these stupid, ignorant outbursts at the town meetings when they hear that the Canadians have to come down here for Health care. I am still shocked this health care issue is even a debate in this country,logically the only folks who should be against the government run healthcare plan,,are and should be only private insurance companies aka blue cross blue shield,hmo,united health care,athem etc... Private insurance companies for for profit meaning...if a patient doesn't get a certain surgery,the insurance safes and makes money...insurance companies give money to doctors,to NOT reccomend a surgery a patient might need.

Why do so many come from Canada where it's Socialist for care? Long wait's. And these morons want to in the US give illegal fuckers health care out of our taxes! My main issue is this Government has leaned towards Communism in so many slight ways for yrs, more and more. I feel there is a Hidden agenda behind this. After this what is next? In our country,USA, a dotcor is paid more,if he makes sure u stay on a medication for life and gives you more meds,you never even needed to begin with. What physican would u have? one that gets paid more,if he heals you faster and gets you off the medication,or one who ensures u stay on medication,longer and longer...This is the only nation,that has profit based health care. Drug companies,doctors make more money here,if they make sure u stay on a medication until you die. What shameful system

So what it comes down to is would you rather see doctors get rich from hooking you on medication, or bureaucrats get rich for hooking you on medication. Either way its going suck.

Socialist system in Europe, they have government run health care. The physicians get paid by the government and the government controls and sets the charges that are right-fair. So in europe, a doctor can not charge you for an x ray 500 bucks,the government sets the rule that an x ray cost 20 bucks,so they can't abuse it. In the US a doctor can charge anything for an x ray,or a visit,cause he can,and its outrages.Also here MD's get a bonus from the insurance companies for giving U new meds.
