the first two stanzas were written by john lennon alone, theres a great version on the lennon lost tapes where hes teaching it to harry. harry wrote the crappy parts " wait, whats this...."
I heard this song on the Anthology, sung by John. I thought this song was about Sean, it makes more sense that way, and it's the among the most beautiful things ever.
there was another lp released at this time. It was Ringo Starr's Goodnight vienna. it had harrry nilsson and Lennon on it. verry good, about the same, but with ringo singing.
I wish John recorded this for himself, it's such a gem and would have been good on walls and bridges but this version is great and Nilson had a great voice.
beatiful song...it is the first time that i listened... it is the mix between ´em 2, but it has the seal of john...harry must have been a good mate...
Yes, The obscure "Pussy cats" LP had a lot of very good music on it, and this is one of the best, John Lennon Harry Nilsson Jim Keltner Jesse "Ed" Davis, among many others, pure magic.
Greenthigh: Glad you acknowledge this is Lennon's work. I missed that part you mention, but for sheer sensual passion, the lines, "her body's warm and wet..she gets me through this Godawful loneliness..she makes me sweat and forget who I am" on 'Sweet Bird of Paradox' is like bomb-crater devastating. Lennon and Nilsson's collaboration was similar to the best creative era of Cole Porter, 1933-34, in 1973-74. "Cookin' in the Kitchen of Love", recorded by Ringo, is my favorite song of that time.
What better combination than Nilsson and Lennon?

This version appears on Harry's 1974 Pussy Cats album, which Lennon produced, in case anyone is wondering.

I have been very impressed now.
I heard it after an interval of about 35 years.
It only listened once.
This song was existence of the phantom for a long time until today.
Now, it became clear existence.
Thank you very much.
Thanks Youtube.

Good bassline in Mucho Mungo part.

I believe it's a combination of John's "Much Mungo" and Nilsson's "Mt. Elga".

Lennon wrote the verse's chord transition.
Nilsson wrote the middle(Mt Elga)
They worked on the lyrics together.

This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard, so sad Harry lost his voice, oh well his voice was still great. I'm gonna buy the LP and crank it.

Harry didn't use John's middle piece "you're a blessing in disguse...". Shame it was the best part of John's original composition.

This is an interesting LP. I imagine it would of been super if Harry didnt lose his voice midway. Otherwise, they made a good writing pair.
