@Catandthespoon It's a hell of a lot harder to make barehanded catches in baseball than it is in other sports, which is why the players (and the smart fans) wear gloves.
@Catandthespoon Baseballs are hit much harder, sometimes over 110 miles per hour by major leaguers, and baseballs have a little more english on them when hit, spinning in directions that are harder to judge. Baseballs are also affected more by the wind because they're lighter than a cricket ball and they can be hit way higher than cricket balls. Cricket balls are smaller too, which makes them easier to catch barehanded.
@dodgerfilms In fact the cricket ball is the same size as a baseball. Anyway, all the other points are true.
Of course, throwing in the park there's no great difference between catching one or the other, though I think the seams on a baseball are more likely to dig into the hand in an unpleasant fashion.
In a game situation, baseballs are hit much harder, higher, etc.
It goes without saying that MLB players would quickly adapt to catching barehanded if they had to (like in Chicago 16" softball)
@Catandthespoon Barehanded baseball catches are also more impressive simply because gloves are normally used (for protection and better fielding), so it's rare to see barehanded catches and more difficult to pull off when you haven't practiced it.
What is the big deal about catching a ball without a massive glove?
This is common practice in most other sports like cricket???

@dodgerfilms No way. Explain to me why it is harder to catch a ball in baseball more than in cricket?
In cricket, only the wicket keepers have gloves. Everyone else manages quite well without them...
