This song sounds like it must be from Heaven... It's too beautiful to be real. Oh, to write music like this, sing, or even play it. So glad I can listen...
I first heard this in the film Jennifer 8, i loved it straight away, it took me a while to find out which classical composer wrote it. For me it is mind blowingly beautiful.
This is one of the most sophisticated, beautiful pieces of music ever composed. The silken smooth heavenly sound of the choir is absolutely superb. This is supreme excellence in music. This is probably the closest to the highest quality and perfection that one will ever come across in music....FANTASTIC!!!!
I Was in Tesco's Forest Gate london looking for dumblings and got completly lost in its 3 aisles then from the ceiling came the faint but audible sound of the André Rieu, Humming chorus from Madame Butterfly I fainted 3 times and was resucicated by the diligent and Tesco bonus card carrying staff, I left the store happy and sublime but when I got home I had no DUMBLINGS only time expired Fish pie. Woke up with Stomache ache
Just got out of the COOP in Forest Gate E7 and they was playing this music it was great I know that the staff was the humming chorus but would they tell, would they BLOODY HELL!! any way It was so soothing I spent 3 days in there and spent £600 God I was so happy spending my money.
This was recorded by the staff of the Asda Stores in Stratford East London and since its recording all the staff have been placed in cold storage by its sister company Iceland they are due to be thawed out in 2012 in time for the Olympic games
Absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous piece. Breaks my heart every time- I love this opera so much. I have to say though, this particular edition with the violin being played over the voices at 1:27 sounds awful. Much more beautiful when it's just voices, or when the violin isn't as loud.
It's not beautiful: it's awesome. Awesome according to the original meaning of the term. It fills you with owe, tragedy and hope, and the same time. It must me understand in the context of Madame Butterfly's tragic existance.
Incredible piece of Music - Would tear your heart strings apart - But I just love it ! ... Inspirational ... Thank you so much for a lovely video too ! xxx <3 <3 <3
I just read comments on an orchestral version of this which was supposedly marred by some poor chap coughing, the comentor wished him death from his TB. I think he missed the point of this beautiful music
@tatboi1 Are you familiar with the opera? Puccini based it on a newspaper account of an American naval officer who returned to Japan with his American bride to take from his former Japanese lover the son she bore him. Butterfly stays up all night in her garden thinking of her reunion with her lover, who has never seen his son. Little does she know what awaits her in the morning. The Humming Chorus is background music while she reminisces. The music is not saccharine. It is heartbreaking.
Never mind supermarkets, just close your eyes & visualise & try to imagine what YOU want to . We are stronger minded than any store right? ok maybe not but don't let them get you down. I don't like it when old movie clips or gorgeous music is used either but hey! It can bring new things into your life which otherwise you may not have known. This is a truely stunningly beautiful masterpiece by the unbelievable talent of the master himself. PUCCINI. My mother loved this too. thank you mumx
@dianelady52 I cannot walk past an Asda store now without being drawn into the shop to the haunting melodies of The Humming Chorus, I just go weak at the kness and shop till I drop
@niceonemicky I know what you mean. My kness go weak too. But seriously, I hope you get your own copy of this piece. There is a CD titled "The Only Chorus CD You'll Ever Need" or something similar that has a stunning version of this music.
@coconegr Google the title, "The Only Choral CD You Will Ever Need," and look for the link that repeats the title exactly, It will take you to the CD for sale on Amazon.com -- much cheaper than I paid. Another great choral album is "Hymns Triumphant" also available on Amazon. I am particularly fond of the disc's version of "Just As I Am." But both CD's have many great choral pieces.
This was my dad's final song at his funeral. I listen to this every day dad on my commute to work and feel so much closer to you, I am sorry we never got to say goodbye. I miss you and love you always xx until we meet again to the sound of the Humming Chorus
I think that Asda chose this tune because it makes you feel relaxed and you will buy more which is brilliant marketing! when it is played on tv the thing that enters your mind is ASDA I dont think if you asked anyone they would say " OH yes it is the Humming Chorus from Madam Butterfly; by Andre Rieu" most people know it only as the Asda tune! If you like Madam Butterfly Try downloading JOAN HAMMOND singing One Fine Day, you will not hear a more beautiful version, forget Kanawa, Callas callas
@1scorp1o1 Speak for yourself. My mother was rabbiting on about this tune, forgetting that I watch very little TV indeed, and almost zero that has adverts. All I hear and think of is sublimely beautiful music. I agree it's clever to use it in advertising, much as Waitrose did several years ago with a piece from Libera. Or BA using "Songs from the Auvergne". Or Old Spice using "O Fortuna" from Orff's Carmina Burana. Or Hovis using a brass version of a tune from the Dvorak 9th Symphony.
@MrRiaanvs Since you like this music which I am sure was Divinely inspired-check out the girl genius Akiane you can see her on You Tube or Akiane.com she is in the same class I believe as Michaelangel etc.
@MrRiaanvs Your comment is prescient. In the Humming Chorus, Puccini gave us forever the heartbreaking melody of an innocent lover's reverie about to be destroyed by the perfidity of her partner.

I have always loved this poece of music and it moves me to tears.

My 2 youngest children stop playing and listen every time the ad comes on tv now and they really like it. I know it's not nice being associated with a supermarket but it's nicely done in slow motion and balck and white.!!

@iluvgeorgiem@iluvgeorgiem Well said , a most beautiful peice of music, if asda didnt play it for their add then fewer people would be able to enjoy such a lovely peice.
An absolutely thrilling piece from the Great Andre Rieu, and equally so the moving spine tingling voice of the Chorale, any idea of the name of the Chorale. Thankyou for the post and thankyou ASDA in the UK for using it in the recent advert
Actually I was thinking of writing to Asda to complain, everytime the advert comes on tv I have to turn the volume down. Its such a beautiful piece of music, I don't want to be reminded of a bloody supermarket everytime i play it. Puccini must be turning in in his grave.
@jakks2 Thankyou for your reply, why does every business have to use a classic piece or any piece of music to ply their wares, can't they use their own imagination for once. Incidentally, any music that is aired like this, the user has to pay royalties, thats good considering Puccini is dead, incidentally, try looking on the other threads that follow this.
Andre, is such a brilliant artist. I don't know your leaning on this type of music, but enjoy anyway
@Richpete001 Yes companies should use their imagination. I am glad that Puccinis family are getting royalties. The only good thing about the advert is that it is getting puccinis music out there to people who would'nt normally listen to classical music, He is unique. The same as Andre Rieu, he is amazing I would love to go to one of his concerts.
This beautiful song is for my very special Lady , Dolly, together for a year now , we are lucky to have found each other , Your old Cowboy loves you XXXX
To My Ol' Cowboy, thankyou so much for the beautiful choice of music and lovely words, this is just perfect. You are now, and always will be my love. This chorus "a bocca chiusa" describes the sleep of Suzuki and Butterfly's child... And the last night of Butterfly alive... She doesn't sleep awaiting for her beloved.

Beautiful and relaxing music
This version by 'Andre Rieu' is probably the best that I have ever heard.
This and 'Concierto De Aranjuez by Manuel and The Music of The Mountains' are among my favourite tracks.
Thanks for posting this.

God bless Don Giacomo. May God have him in da Heaven for glorious performances like this here.

Of course it's lovely. It's Puccini after all. :) The famous "Humming Chorus" from "Madame Butterfly".
