  • I agree brother. People always think "their" beliefs are always the truth. People need to be more open-minded. There is NO truth. Only opinions.

  • Read Christopher Hitchens, "God Is Not Great, How Religion Spoils Everything."

  • I have read it. Thanks for commenting.

  • @djosephallen

    I've ordered it.....can't wait!

  • Religion breeds so much bigotry it's not even funny, especially considering what religion is supposed to do, which is enforce peaceful values and love for one another

  • My, that was quite an impassioned video. You make a good point, and back it up sufficiently. I still cracked up because you were cussing so much, but I got your point nonetheless.

Sounds to me that this bigot you spoke of wants to join an exclusive club, not a religious practice. :|

    G'day~

  • The thing is for lots of jews...judaism IS an exclusive club, as well as a religious practice.....chosen people you see......

  • Converts, though... can you CHOOSE to be Chosen?

  • Aha....that is the question isn't it? Do you become chosen as soon as you become a jew? Seems like in her mind the answer is that shes more chosen than the chosen...if that makes any fucking sense.

  • From a religious point of view, it could seem very presumptuous to 'choose to be chosen', and then act as if you're on a higher level than those who were born into the faith. :| It's presumptuous even if you're not looking at it that way. I don't understand that way of thinking.

  • bigoted bitches suck

  • Hahaha....succinctly put.

  • your story reminds me of the muslim converts that do suicide bombings or try to do it.

often the converts want to outcompete the people that were always in the community. so they do it, they outcompete them in fundamentalism and stupidity. im not particularly judgmental, but when it comes to losing / gaining my respect, if you join a religion as stupid as christianity or judaism or islam or hinduism, then i would probarbly classify you as an idiot.

  • Thnx for your comment kurtlein. I agree with you that converts tend to try to outcompete other members.

My problem isnt really the fact that she converted though, as she was a catholic before, and basically converted so she could marry in a synagogue with a rabbi. So she just jumped form one theism to the next. My BIG problem is that it turned her into a bigoted, selfrighteous bitch.

  • The Jewish, non Jewish thing is ridiculous. My grandfather was Jewish and married outside of his faith against his father's wishes, so my dad and aunt are not really Jewish. I was raised secular atheist and am quite content with my non belief system.

  • Kinda like how Atheist discriminate against people of faith, calling them unintelligent, closeminded, and hatemongers. hmmm.

  • @booniesman88:

One little difference though...I dont "discriminate" her for her race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation.

I do it because of the stupid shit that spews out of her mouth, that sir........, is fair territory for criticism.

  • but you didn't title it as "how a person I know, is a bigot when it comes to religion" you titled it "How religion can breed bigotry" implying that persons of all religious beliefs can become bigots due to there beliefs. I counter that the same is true of non-theist also.

I also should point out that she did not object to her race, sexual orientation, or nationality, but instead however ,ironic as you said, she objected to the fact that she was not born a Jew.

  • Her statements about not want jewish children to be "contaminated"by non-Jews, is no different that atheist not wanting any form of religion taught to their kids for fear of filling their minds with fairy tales. Sorry sir but your video plays both ways.

  • It is not the same thing to talk about jewish children being contaminated by simply INTERACTING with non jews, as an atheist not wanting religion taught to their kids. Why? You are a christian. Would you like Islam taught to your kids? I didnt think so. Yet would you mind your kids interacting with muslim children? I hope not.

Nobody has the right to teach MY kids their religion, I educate my kids, not you. Yet I would never feel they would be contaminated by interacting with religious kids.

  • @booniesman88:

I think my title is pertinent for the topic, especially since I clearly state at the beggining of the vidoe that I am NOT stating that religion necesarilly WILL or DOES breed bigotry in every situation. Im just giving one example. I feel I was clear enough.

    (CONT...in next comment)

  • That's insane! I have heard that converts tend to be the most devout and I guess it makes sense in a way. In his documentary "The Root Of All Evil?" Richard Dawkins interviewed an ex-Jewish Muslim in Jerusalem, and that guy was one of the scariest people I've ever seen.

  • Yeah...I remember that guy, but If you notice he tends to walk the tight rope pretty well, by just putting down western values and freedoms, but he doesnt really rail against jews in particular,(or does he?) in fact I think he lives in Jerusalem. Converts being more devout does make sense, but this kind of descrimination against what they were (and in a sense still are) is ridiculous.

  • Javier, i deconverted twice, and im pretty hell bent on atheism, i think it might be true. i dont think it makes me bigamous, but i am pretty devout, if atheists can be devout.
