@opticon6 He doens't use too much blastbeats in Textures... because blast beats are WAY to overused in metal sometimes. In some bands, it will fit perfectly. Like Scarve. ( Luminiferous ), but Textures is one of those bands that doesn't need any.
@bindoy Meshuggah is my favorite band, but that part of future breed machine is a generic double bass hi hat beat, you can't say stef is copying that. 0:49 is just fast double bass.
@MikePostDrums Nah man.. This is pointless but still. The weird thing he does where the ride's off during the intro of Laments.. Its kinda like that. But here he does it with the Hi hat. JUST for a sec. Yea ok its ridiculous.
@MikePostDrums Hahaha XD Such a pointless discussion. BUT! I realised that YOUR the guy who put up the Outro of The Art of Dying Rereversed or unreversed or whatever. Man.. Esoteric surgery clean is just angelic as fuck and your post helped me disover myself or whatever..:P Fucking awsome.. Though this ofcourse is the wrong place to say this :/ (late-realization indeed :P ) (-_-)
@MikePostDrums And usually discussions like this turn nasty :P Testosterone fueled stuck up fucks love arguing over the internet about Joey Jordison, Mahatma Ghandi, and Ronald from McDonalds on the same page :|
Yeah in a way the rythm itself isn't that special. I've heard multiple bands use it. But it's the way with which Meshuggah combined it with other rythms which is unique. Especially the strong focus on that particulary rythm isn't done that much. But yeah Textures probably used it as well though not in the way like Meshuggah has with bleed.
The pattern I use at the end IS the same pattern used in Bleed. Funny fact is that we (Textures) used the same double-bass/ guitarpattern in our song Old Days Born Anew from album Silhouettes. The album was released in the same month as Obzen and recorded the same month as Obzen. I was practicing this pattern also for a long time. Kinda bizar.
I had chat a about this with Thomas Haake about this funny coincidence last summer in 013, Tilburg, Holland for Slagwerkkrant Magazine. He admitted the pattern itself is nothing special because it was used before lots of times, but of course not in the way our bands play it. And of course the Meshuggeners play it somewhat faster and with a lot of weird twists. Respect to Thomas.
yeah its just a herta pattern. the thing is he plays it with his feet in 32nd notes. meaning cramping is iminent and crapping yourself when you hear it for the first time is assured
Broks / Haake pick your poison. Suck a bag of dicks if you think drummers like this are not a dime a dozen. Textures are awesome and a fresh band that def deserves a hard listen if like Meshuggah. Influence aside Textures crushes.
I met Stef when we were teenagers and we botht worked in summerholidays in a factory. He's still a friend. Huge sense of humor!!! Everytime we meet, we imitate "ome henk".. download it ;)
"listen to textures (his band)...you cant use a metronome there:P cause its wierd shit. but he's the master"... Lol... it's precisely cuz he worked much with a metronome that he's a master. Metronome work applies to any kind of metric music, especially this one. I would rather say "You must use a metronome here", else you'll never understand how these patterns "work"
Your comment about Stef saying he needs to work with a metronome made me spit out my coffee. No offence, but that's retarded. The moment Stef is out of timing, the universe shall collapse.
Way to impress women :DDD Stef kicks ass!

@CoolCoverBro
just to clear things up, i didn't say he was "copying" it, i said the pattern "sounds" like it,
copying and sounding-like are two different things.
i only stated what the patterns reminded me of, im not discrediting broks' skills
i dig his drumming man.
