  • Newcomer to guns here. But does a bolt action rifle have more range due to the fact that no gas is diverted to a gas chamber?

  • @TheGeekwad Bolt guns generally have longer barrels than gas guns, so more velocity and more range. The bleed off from the gas port is going to have a pretty minimal effect on velocity.

  • @TheGeekwad Take the M110 sniper rifle for example, it works the same way an M16 does and it has an effective range of ~800 yards

  • i'm guessing this is how an m4 works as well?

  • @Dude31197 Yes, same concept of operations

  • @jaston45 wow i learnt a lot, i just dont understand how this can go full auto, seems pretty like it cant load fast enough

  • @Dude31197 It loads incredibly fast, it's slowed down in the video so that the cycle of operations can actually be viewed.

  • @jaston45 so this fired from a closed bolt position right?

  • @Dude31197 Yes

  • Ah, it just HAD to say "The End" at the end ;)

I have learned a great deal today...

  • Gotta love the handle! It's looks like a fukkin handle of a door or briefcase. The designer must have been a door-to-door salesman.

  • Ohhh Future weapons 1966

  • great video, i want more....

  • similar AK-47, but longer.

  • All I really need to know is to load mag put it in pull charging handle and turn of safety then shoot

  • @MrBobereno Of course you don't need to know how to clean it, clear malfunctions etc.

  • like the AKMS

  • what a stupid gun, they can use a piston moving in the gas tube instead of a long tube, what's why the M16 is so long compared to the AK-47 and also cannot shorten the stock.

  • SO HELPFUL I LOVE YOU!

  • @GoldenRing1989 5:45 into the film the narrator explains: "When the bolt carrier enters the last 1/2-inch of its forward movement, the bolt cam pin emerges from the guide channel in the upper receiver and moves along the cam track rotating the bolt counter-clockwise. This locks the bolt to the barrel extension."

At about 6:00, the film cuts to the opposite side where the cutaway shows the cam rotating the bolt to lock it. Another video shows more detail: youtu.be/RKGlthExwRQ?t=20s

  • So the disconnect is the bitch that prevents the hammer from hitting again the thing that makes the firing pin hit the round , in semi. in full-auto, the disconnect is basically out of the way. Ami right?

    Q. what makes the bolt rotate? Bolt cam pin? How?

  • Awesome ending

  • thanks for uploading these

  • notice that the semi auto does only 3 round bursts at the end.. not single round like the video shows or suggests in the beginning.. it fails to show the rotator pin that does the 3 round count then allows the trigger sear to connect. interesting old video though.

  • @danratsnapnames

    The M16A1 didn't have 3 round burst, just safe-semi-auto.

  • @jaston45 oh really? just the m16A2 does the 3 round burst??

boy would i love to see the US Marine Corps Technical Manual for the M16A1..

i didn't realize my Tech Manual was for the A2 until after you mentioned it.. My bad.. thanks for correcting me.

  • @danratsnapnames There are only 3 versions of the AR family that were adopted by the military that have burst, the M16A2, M16A4, and M4. The M16, M16A1, M16A3, and M4A1 all have full auto instead.

  • Yep,but DOES IT WORKS?:D

  • I tried watching this video, did you need to make the bullet come out the barrel so slow? Turned it off

  • how old is the video?! not the uploaded video the original..

  • @jericoferrari55

Don't know for sure, I'm guessing from the '60s.

  • @jaston45 1966

  • @jaston45 1966 is the date at the end: MCMLXVI. Also, it was still the XM-16 LOL

  • @jericoferrari55 @9:41 shows MCMLXVI - 1966. Archive.org on US Army film TF9-3663 "Rifle 5.56mm, XM16E1, Operation and Cycle of Functioning": 1st mass-fielded version of the M16 rifle. This version has a chrome-plated bolt carrier, no trap door in the buttstock, no forward assist, non-chrome-lined chamber, and three-prong flash supressor. Somewhat notorious for reliability issues in Vietnam, it was upgraded into the much more reliable M16A1 in 1967. Info applies to modern M16A2/A4 & M4 too.

  • @jericoferrari55 just see the roman numerals at the end of the video . "1966"

  • @jericoferrari55 looks 1960 its m16 was build 1959-present

  • @jericoferrari55

At 9:43 the date says MCMLXVI.. so 1966

  • I understood everything perfectly fine until we started talking about the "disconnect". Is it the sear?

  • @slayere23

The disconnector is what grabs the hammer and prevents it from going back forward unless you pull the trigger again or it's tripped by the auto sear.

  • where dos the power come from wich pushes the bolt?

  • @animator995 Did you watch the video? As the round is fired, the expanding gas is directed back into the receiver through the gas tube, and the gas pushes the bolt rearwards, then the return spring and buffer push the bolt into battery.

  • 0:23 damn thats the slowest bullet ever

  • @tancavproductions That's about 3000 snailfeet per second.

  • M4 is better.

  • I don't see why the people saying that the M16 was poor early on have thumbs down. I don't get that.

  • how m16 works? but that gun doesn´t work

  • @delija999 Actually these are pretty reliable nowadays. They had problems early on but those have been worked out for yrs now.

  • how about you stand in front of it and I'll show you how well it doesn't work?

  • @littlesurfer519

Ha, thanks, that gave me a chuckle.

Yeah, actually the M16 had a reputation of "it never needs to be cleaned!", but then it when into Vietnam and reality hit it pretty hard. Cleaning kits were designed and issued, and it quickly became a very good rifle.

Apparently it works better in the sand rather than the mud, because now they're used a lot in Iraq.

  • @slayere23 yeah, well, that was in the A2 models. they partially fixed that in the A3 and A4, but it's still not as durable as an AK.

  • It works great for hunting squirrels and maybe chipmunks AAAAAhhhh....I would arm all soldiers with G3 full autos and two or three men with .300 win magnums and super scopes like Luepolds Vari-X IIIs---one guy with MG-42 not crappy SAW...

  • @deltaalpha21074 i see you favor german made

  • @captaincool7695 YES and I like American big time too --MY favorite would have been and I still love it XM-8 but unfortunately FNH which is awesome too; got the Contract. Three good gun countries USA,GERMANY, and Russia nobody can say AK-47 is not the most produced weapon ever?

  • @delija999 Gun works fine.. It was only for a short time in the early days of Vietnam that they had issues.. Personally i've shot many variations M-16a2, a3, M4, GAU-5 and they all work fine.. I personally don't like the gun myself but I can definitely say they work.

  • great vid!!
