@tokutom It was set up as a scare tactic. They certanly scared children, but I don't know if they scared any adults to further secure their cars though.
Thanks for posting these, I remember this SO well from when I was a kid. It used to terrify me, but it became a morbid fascination thing, I used to love watching it. I remember my grandad got one of the car stickers with the hyena on, and I asked him to get one for my bedroom window, haha.
I still think one of the scariest things about the ad is the loud guitar type noise at the end. Goes right through you
One overlooked feature was the music. I don't think it's a guitar (though there might be one in there) it sounds more like an orcestria creating a huge boom with various instruments. Indeed after UK kids dealt with Sinutab or in my Sinutab, then spooky end music by BT and British Gas, then it was this. Honestily sometimes these adverts were like torture. You would see loads of memorable ad's you know, then to be scared out of your wits by one.
There have been many other adverts which are less frightening and still gets the word through, I think! I'm afraid the UK had it's share of spooky ads too. Check out the 1989 Sinutab advert.
Hmmm, hyenas in the UK...

This is just bad. It's not even a good metaphor.

@SushiSunshine2000 So was I and a lot of kids were back in the early 90's. The scare tactic has done it's job, the scaring part at least.

David, I agree. This is a pretty disturbing little ad. I've seen spookier commercials here in America, but not many.

OK? Spooky would be a more appropiate term because of this advert. :D
