  • I'd prefer the original Zappa solo

  • i forgive you guys.... a psy op is hard to resist, money talks bullshit goes in the food at the soup kitchen.......dan-germous.

  • Many goosebumps and incrediluous smiles by the end, just like when I saw this in concert in Phoenix (except Steve and Dweezil traded solos)

  • peace man

  • Fantastique!

  • Genius....

  • frank should raise tipper gores kids

  • Awesome. Thanks for sharing

    Grandma mary

  • I must say that this band is MILES ahead of the band that I saw in Charlotte a few years ago. You (Dweezil) have really stepped up to the plate. This is excellent. Yo' daddy would be proud of this.

  • Best DVD set I ever Bought!

  • What does having two microphones do? Do they each have different filters?

  • Comment removed

  • @topofsm I think they both have different reverbs on them. Kinda creates a P.A. echo effect.

  • Napoleon rules!

  • great fuckin solo

  • to play with FZ was enough

  • Comment removed

  • Vai just exploded with skill and talent all over that stage.

  • I love that funky rythm that kicks in on Steve's solo man...it's just, funky.

  • all for show as usual with Vai..., listen to the original for proper guitar genius

  • @sidecrusher You apparently think you're a better judge of talent than FZ, who often made a point of raving about Vai's greatness, referring to him affectionately as "our little Italian virtuoso" during his tenure with Frank. Zappa was one of the hardest gigs ever, and you don't get it by being "all for show", though putting on a visual spectacle was something Vai probably got from Frank. Sorry but Frank's right and you're wrong.

  • @Gregorypeckory

yes I am a better judge of everything than anyone , I really am

I'm not talking about his visual display , I'm not a woman ..

women do that , its his playing ,,he does it for show yes he can play most things

but he just fret wanks he clearly does not feel what hes playing but he is so mechanically

good he can make it sound like he feels it , look at him when he plays , he is looking

everywhere , he is not concentrating most of the time , you are not a player are you?

  • @sidecrusher So he "can make it sound like he feels it", but you can tell by his eye movements that he really doesn't? It's music-sound is what it's about, not your "better judgement" of whether he's really feeling it-who gives a fuck. Try listening with your ears instead of your eyes. And you're a better judge of guitarists than Zappa? Apparently not. You talk loud but know nothing.

  • @Gregorypeckory

take some LSD is my advice to you , young laddie , before you talk with the grown ups

  • @sidecrusher What are you talking about? You can tell by the reaction of the band during Steve Vai's solo on Zomby Woof that this was NOT the same "mechanical stuff" he was playing in rehearsal. Never been a huge fan of Steve Vai, but he nails this solo. FZ would have loved the mashed up playing Vai was doing.

  • @sidecrusher Is that what you did? If you're impersonating a grownup, you aren't very convincing so far.

  • @sidecrusher you're another jackass on here to cause trouble! Go Troll somewhere else!!! Or else!!!

  • @steveissosteve

So what if I am . What you gonna do about it buster, the hell I will

or else what ? if I punched your ribs I'd break your back ...

  • @sidecrusher You'd never get the chance I'd whip your candy ass! I'd crack you in your glass jaw and you'd be knocked the fuck out!!!

  • saw that many times. best

  • MUITO BOMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

  • Steve´s legato skills are beyond good and evil... just like the rest

  • This is not a tribute, its a mockery.

  • @MegaBanne How so?

  • @Zombywoof91 this song should be dirty not slick

  • @MegaBanne zappa's original is scuzzy AND slick, that's the appeal for me.

  • @timmo1782 the original are at least dirty. This isen't bad ass like the original, this is just corny.

  • @MegaBanne I don't think I like that? Frank always changed up his songs, they always sounded different, there's nothing set in stone

  • @Zombywoof91 yea but this isen't changing it in a progressiv way, trying new ways to play a song ,more like making it cleaner and closer to pop music.

Frank would never take a song and make it less intresting if it wasn't a mockery.

  • @MegaBanne Good point! But one of the biggest goals of zappa plays zappa is to reach new and younger fans, you gotta bring it down a notch for em' haha

  • @Zombywoof91 Yea I guess ur right, maybe i should stop being a h8er all of the times=)

(and only most of the times) ^.-

  • Ya know, Dweezil is awesome, Vai is awesome, but this music just plain sucks...

  • @Thirdgen83 zappa -'s music- sucks? that is the dumbest thing i've heard today.

  • @uygar10ur I don't mean "sucks" from a technical aspect. I mean it's boring as hell...

  • @Thirdgen83 Wow, GET OFF THIS PAGE THEN!!!!

  • @Zombywoof91 Okay, just as soon as I get off your MOTHER...

  • @Thirdgen83 That comment answers why you don't like Frank's music! No imagination and A closed mind to go with it! I just wish closed minds came with closed mouths.

  • @Zombywoof91 That makes about as much sense as a screen-door on a submarine. Just because your mother is addicted to Crack, and likes having sex with black guys for beer-money, that's no reason to take your frustration out on Me...

  • @Thirdgen83 How old are you, 12? You think Frank's music sucks. Do you have any idea who Frank Zappa is? All theses musicians on stage wouldn't be there if it weren't for him. He changed the whole face of music with songs like this! And it's a pissoff when ignorant fucks like you, down Zappa's music. Because, with one clueless comment, you insult one of the centuries biggest music icons! And have no idea what you really said! Try and tell Vai and Dweezil what you think of this song. Dick head.

  • @Zombywoof91 You're about as intelligent as a box of rocks. You are obviously either someone who has abused drugs, or a child of someone who has.

  • @Thirdgen83 You haven't said one intelligent thing in any of your comments, bud.

  • @Zombywoof91 That's funny coming from an idiot...

  • Comment removed

  • @Thirdgen83 Man, you're lame.

  • @Zombywoof91 Nice come-back...

  • @Thirdgen83 It's not a comeback, it's a statement.

  • @Zombywoof91 And a bullshit statement at that...

  • @Thirdgen83 What are you even arguing about? You have nothing! This is over, you haven't contributed any real points to the initial dispute and you're just going down swinging! You're a loss cause, bud! When you have something real to say, i'll reply. but you don't. So, I'm done! Now post your immature insult to me and let's get this over with.

  • @Zombywoof91 You're also nothing but a 20 year-old punk KID. You didn't even EXIST when Zappa was doing his thing, and you wouldn't dare call me a "dick head" to my face, because I'd slap the shit out of you. I have more intelligence in my little finger than you have in your entire 20 year-old existence, you Keyboard warrior fuck-tard...

  • @Thirdgen83 I actually did exist when he was doing his thing, retard. Haha! Do your research. Seem's like you've done some on me.haha I have more important things to do than waste my time on you. You're already resorting to violence. And an intelligent person like you should know, people resort to violence when they have nothing to say! Which you don't. The only points you made are that you like corny mother jokes and you're a "big tough guy"! What are you gonna do, fly to my house and fight me?

  • @Zombywoof91 I think Zombie's comment was appropriate, given the way that you dragged the discussion downhill-it's all right here-anyone can see where it went south-who started making the nasty comments about a Zombie's mother-a class act you are.

  • @Thirdgen83 You jackass you just came on here to harass the fans of this music! You don't really care one way or the other! Thirdgrade83 should be your Youtube name!

  • @steveissosteve And YOUR YouTube name should be "Steve'sMomIsACrackWhore".

    Now piss off , Fuck-Tard...

  • @Thirdgen83 Hey third grade dumb ass I had your mom over last night and Bukakeed her so many times she looked like a glazed doughnut when I was done! And she didn't charge me!

  • @steveissosteve Just because your mother is addicted to Crack, and likes having sex with black guys for beer-money, that's no reason to talk trash about MY mom. Oh, and I'm not impressed at all with your homosexuality, fucking cock-ring...

  • @Thirdgen83 I think you have sex with black guys for beer money and you love it when they blow their man yogurt all over your face! It all ties back to your mother who gave you your first pair of San francisco dinner slippers and taught you how to spread your crack for crack! Now shut your hairy mouth and go swallow your daily dose of protein!!

  • @steveissosteve That's exactly the kind of response I would expect from a low-class FAG such as yourself. The funniest part of it all is that you seem to actually think that anyone GIVES A SHIT about what you say...

  • @Thirdgen83 Your a stupid jackass who thinks he's funny and knows how to cut people down. But I tell you you're an amateur! No one gives a shit about you or your opinion! So get the hell off this channel if you don't like the music jackass!!!

  • @steveissosteve I don't think I'm funny, I think I'm RIGHT. In fact I KNOW I'm RIGHT. Just because you have anal warts, and shit for brains, that's not my problem. You obviously DO care about my opinion, or else you wouldn't be responding with your lame-ass , WEAK come-backs, you punk-ass BITCH.

  • Vai is amazing but this solo did not fit this Zappa tune at all... Too much wankery and too little grit 'n' dirt.

  • 33 ones who don't like it are Justin Bieber's fans

  • Guitar solo is just awful...

  • @dandycandyman Please tell me where on youtube I can see in your opinion a great guitar solo!

  • utter rubbish

  • @set2light Direct me to a video of what you think is a great guitar solo!

  • that guitar should sue Vai for harassing her so badly.

  • Maybe mr. Vai should listen to the original.

It appears he left out the melody.

  • Absoulutely fuckin' brilliant playing too!!

  • One of my favourite Zappa tracks. Am I right to assume this was after his death? Nice tight version. Zappa would approve.

  • Don't Wanna Bother but James Valentine was the one which sent me here

  • awesomeness!

  • S. Vai is the worlds most talented guitar wizard. He believes we are all unique and incomparable , I agree! SV is the human electric guitar. But his deep deep knowledge of music theory and abilities sets him at the top of the guitar food chain for evermore!

  • que alucinante! buenisimo el tema y por el master Vai

  • Sick!!! Just plain sick! Zappa was nuts!!!

  • listen zappa was some guitarist himself

  • 5:48 What?!!

  • 2:27 the sexiest chord I've ever heard!!

  • Better than Santana?

  • and on the third minute....every guitarist that saw this jizzed uncontrollably

  • I'm thinking that one of em has some kind of distortion on it

  • So suddenly two microphones are better than one?

  • @darkfire1009 Those two microphones are certainly not plugged the same way...

  • People need to remember Frank himself chose Vai to play his music

  • That was amazing. Simple as that.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Vai in Avila Beach, when he was on the Jimi Hendrix tour! He was such a humble and gracious guy. Incredible dude.

  • @vexamatic

All those notes were full of emotion. Upload a video of yourself playing that great or shut the fuck up.

  • Yep. Play a lot of notes that invoke no emotion whatsoever. I can however, picture Bugs Bunny creeping up on Elmer.

  • @vexamatic Dude are you spouting that technical guitar player bullshit? That was made up by someone who sucked on the guitar!!

  • Insanely great and impossible_to_copy_that_kind_of_playing by Mr Steve Vai. Maybe his best ever.

  • Plus thay are ruining this song by playing it slick and clean. This is a dirty, hardcore and funky progg song, not a slick mainstream fussion song.

  • no way that guy beats captain beefheart.

  • Vai is Vai, he can make almost everything, Zappa have other style. Both are great musicians. The problem is Vai like to show your talent, sometimes forget the music.

Opheliarising, like or not, Vai win.

  • As any real guitarist can tell, from watching Mr Vai's face in the midst of the lead, Mr Vai is a strange and wonderful machine for making exceptional music be produced to reality via his guitar. One of the best leads ever played.

  • More Cowbell!

  • $#@!

I half expected Vai to burst into flames near the end of that solo.

Thanks for posting. Zappa Plays Zappa is going to be opening for Return To Forever IV in Boca this Friday. I hope to make it.

  • @espforall Steve Vai might well be the most talented guitarist to date. Honestly, seeing this performance makes me wonder if his guitar is not some mutated version of his penis. That being said, it is not fair to diss Dweezil. I am pretty sure that he makes no claims to being as good a guitar player as Vai. What Dweezil has done is master his father's complex music and assemble a band that can perform it proficiently. That is note-worthy!

  • @OpheliaRising talk to me williamarte@bol.com.br

  • @luvtogothere True, but sometimes he is a stunt guitarist though...and ofcourse we enjoy that :P

  • Mr. Vai is a master player and composer. If you disagree, fine. Please close the window and leave...........

  • @MrSoakitincider Hey! That's why Frank picked him!

  • @MrSoakitincider He's flawless! Everything he does is 100% intended!

  • @MrSoakitincider Fine mate! but in this case F. Zappa is the composer and , well, how to put it and dont hurt your admiration for Steve Vai? Zappa is playing in a completely different league! agree or be ashamed! :-)

  • @MrSoakitincider although these are not his compositions i completely agree ; )

  • Dude Lebowski on xylophone!

  • It is great to see that Steve Vai continues to grow as a soloist.

  • 3:54 Vai does his Joey Shithead of DOA impression. #LOL

  • @heckler73 Maybe Joey did a Steve Vai impression!

  • That trem takes some abuse.

  • Absolutely, the most satisfying and authentic I've ever heard Vai play (without Frank himself present)! Tellin' you all the ZOMBY Troof!

  • Holy crap!

  • not a big fan of vai, but this is an amazing solo!

  • awesome music.

  • Using a tambourine to hit a cowbell? Now that efficient!

  • Steve Vai deserves a miller highlight

  • lol its like drum corps music for the guitar...im kinda digin this

  • This whole performance is completely sick. Unreal - thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dam... Steve Vai is raping the shit out of that wammy bar....

  • @BluM0nk That is why he has to change the tremolo unit once a month!

  • Wow Vai is really leaning into it.:)

  • Sick timings. Jesus...

  • I wonder how Steve feels being on stage with virtuosic equals here!

  • He wouldn't know--not from this song, anyway.

  • Feck'n awesome!! you can tell that vai really lost himself in that amazing solo!! he looked drained and about to collapse at the end... He's some machine!!

  • outrageous!

  • good solo

    steve master

  • Is that Napolian Murphy Brock on vocals?

  • @rdnzl1 yup

  • 3:07 Lmao.

  • Steve rules!!!!!!!

  • classical masterpiece

  • The chick playing the sax is one foxy lady.

  • @Nerefurian Her name is Shelia Gonzalaz

  • the man can play, even F.Z. said he was good. art is what you see or feel, or taste or hear. If you dont like it,change the channel instead of complaining, jeeez.

  • this is musical noise

  • Dweezil haters are people who don't know anything about music, least of all Zappa's music. Why don't you post a link to the live video of you playing better? *crickets* Keep Zappa music alive forever!

  • @swordsintopens Maybe they're people who just don't like his style. Do you like every single guitarist who ever made a name for themselves? I'm not a fan of how Dweezil plays, or how Frank did. Does that make me a hater?

  • LECK MICH FETT!!!

  • that was the best solo played in the last 20 years!!!!!!!!!

  • napolean murphy brock is singing

  • Who is that singing? If only it was the one and only Ike Willis. :)

  • :O

  • i was waiting for his guaitar to catch on fire (:

  • I'm very proud to say that I saw the first USA ZPZ show 5 years ago; but not proud to say that I haven't been back. This is spiffy as hell.

  • The rhythm section is flawless. The triplet riffs are so clean. Sax is strong, vocals are strong, drums are amazing, bass is great, Steve was a bit crazy near the end of his solo, but it was awesome!!!!

  • Is that Tal Wilkenfeld on the sax?

  • @EasyHomeBarPlans Nah dude her name is Scheila Gonzalez

  • @fassman316 Tal's been jammin with Stevie quite a bit, so that threw me...plus I don't think she plays the sax. They do look alike though. I knew she wasn't Ruth. Thnx!

  • My favorite parts was when everyone played their instruments and sang flawlessly while they had a good time and entertained everyone watching.

  • This band is tight...even 64th note phrasing episodes are ,.money down....note for note....

  • jesus h awesome

  • The singer? Sucks!!! No balls.

  • @JimmyLeeVanDePutte That's THE original singer of this song from Apostrophe album. After all these years.A toast to Nappy!

  • @ESmithStringSlinger Nappy was not the original singer, it was Ricky Lancelotti, who sang it an octave higher than Nappy does here. There's a live version of me doing it in the correct octave on the '82 tour: Apparently Youtube won't let me post the link in a comment, but if you'll find it if you search for "Frank Zappa - Zomby Woof [live]"

  • @ramusic10 Thank you for the correct information.I do have the LP, just didn't look.I'll take in the version with you singing in short.

  • @ESmithStringSlinger Correction That was Ricky Lancelotti from Mothers/Overnight Sensation album.Probably the best lineup of the Mothers.

  • i watched this whole show with my dad XD !

the guitar and drumming are awesome :D

  • Solo at @2:25

  • was this the ZPZ done at the house of blues Anaheim, CA?

  • Vai and Les Claypool need to start a band....right now!

  • @GameCherryDotCom Nah dude. The egos would clash hardcore, they'd spend more time at each others' throats than writing music. It'd be Abbey Road all over again

  • @bfish420 ....I would hope so, Abbey Road is one of the greatest things ever achieved by mankind

  • @GameCherryDotCom Touche

  • when frank died i quit my job and went into the mountains of northern arizona.i said i wasn't coming back until i played everything i had of his.it took me a week.what a genius

  • The studio lead was better ; no too much .

  • Steve Vai's a beast. The End.
