I did ballet for a short time when I was younger but then went to street and I love both of them! I preferred my street dance lessons because with my cockney accent you get some funny looks so I never felt I fit in but what really bugs me now is that because of all these street dance films people start hip hop just because it's cool and it looses the passion which at least ballet still has
I love the ending! This is such a good video showing that both stylesare amazing! Hip hop is so much fun to watch and the stunts are amazing but ballet gets props for the difficulty of technicality while making it look effortless (though I guess both do the effortless part). Plus, to be even able to get to the level of standing on pointe takes training. I wish they showed more penchés and side extensions (can't remember the word right now) and beats! Ballet! <3 (I'm so biased though!)
Did anyone think this was too short a commercial? Yes, I was rollin' at the ending. I would have loved to have seen Comfort in this ad. If my brother had returned to his original vertical stance with very little bending of his knees...have mercy! Both forms of dance are LYRICAL. Hip Hop has CLASSICAL roots as well, and those who are well versed in it will recognize the haters and wannbe-players.
hands down i say BALLET....although i think street dance is amazing and i love seeing it i gotta say as a ballet dancer myself that it takes years of hard work and technique to do classical ballet...you have alot of more freedom in streetdance and the rules aren't as rigorous

the thing about ballet is that it's not really creative, it consist of the same moves taught over and over again. Don't get me wrong I respect and enjoy watching ballet but I like how hip hop is always changing and progressing.
Whether you like Ballet or Hip Hop better it's okay (I LOVE them both)... but NO ONE can deny the fact that ballet is the mother of all dances. It's the basis for every move. Saying otherwise is like saying rock music, pop music, country music or any other kind of music don't have their roots in classical music. That's why they are called CLASSICAL.
@celinealltheway It's not the base of all dance. I do african along with ballet and hip hop. African is where hip hop came from. It's a whole different country. Their dance style was born through their life experiences. Not from ballet. I bet other styles are the same.

@19daze98 I'm learning it's not stiff though. I thought it was but you have to be loose yet strong to make it look pretty to other people. And I know an amazing ballera who can break. It's all about how much you love dance.

@19daze98 Are you a breaker? You seem to like it a lot. Yes she looks like a breaker when she does hip hop. When your that gifted as a dancer you can do almost any style. I get jealous sometimes. She focuses more on ballet because she's going pro, but when she does her b-girl thing it's real. (she wears street clothes fyl)
@Letters411 Yea breakin' since 97......it's really the only dance i would ever do there's freedom in it, like the way it incorporates other things like martial arts and gymnastics as well as dancing...can be free styled or choreographed, routine's (like any dance i guess) There's a lot more to it than just moves - it's a culture, life style, there's a lot of respect in it if u do it. Each to their own though.
@19daze98 I personally don't like breaking because it doesn't hold my interest. I use a couple moves here and there when i do hip hop cause people like looking at it, but ballet is more interesting to me. The strength and determination it takes.
@Letters411 No I already do HipHop - Breakin" is the dance (element) of hiphop.....there's only one other HipHop dance and that's called "party style"/new style hiphop (short for new york style)> Poppin is known as a "funk style" and lockin the same but mostly a "soul dance" - poppin and lockin are NOT hiphop and "personalized choreography" isn't either. - the reason why people THINK it's all hiphop is because of the media....type in search "what is hiphop dance? popping pete".

Yes breakin, poppin and lockin are under the hiphop "break-dance" unbrella because the media ladels them that BUT the only thing they have in common is that they are streetdances. @19daze98 and to list just a few of ballet competitions: ADC, ABC, YAGP, prix de lausanne, world ballet competition,varna international ballet competition. and yes, there are more than 10,000 people and almost all of them train almost 24/7, so yes, they are unbelievable.

They've been schooled since they were like 5, at BALLET specific schools to get where they are now. Pretty sure hip hop or whatever can't hold a candle to that.

ok this is fun to watch but seriously (hiphop) B-boyin vs ballet doesnt work....how do u judge that???? it's just a film!!!!!! Breakin' can be just as graceful as ballet btw...plus the breakers in the movie was not of a great high standard.....watch real breakin clips and tell me its not as hard as ballet - or go to a bboy jam. At the end of the day hav respect for both (all) dance stylez...which is sort of the point of the film.
I don´t like stereotyping at all.... and this is definetely showing the wrong ide of ballett and hip hop. Both sports are extremely exhausting and need a lot of practise, but still I don´t think its ok to let ballett look so GAY. it´s a very hard sport and everything else but baby dance. They don´t show the effort you have to put into dancing. Just my opinion :) On the other side... it´s just a movie :D

im sorry your rigtht..its just that ive danced ballet since i was little and when i when I took a hip hop class it wasnt that hard to catch on, ballet has really built a foundation for me to be able to dance other types of dances, i meant to say that a ballet dancer with no hip hop background could dance hip hop, but it would take a hip hop dancer longer to learn the ballet technique!!!

@Letters411 You do those styles but there boring and pointless?!?! then why do them if u feel that way? also they are NOT easy for anybody.....mite be easy to pick up a quick easy set but to be creative make up your own moves, steps, styles is not easy at all and to do it all on beat is extremely hard. I could say lots of stuff about ballet but I'm not a hater. btw until u hav vids of ya self doin poppin, lockin and breakin on ya channel I dont believe yr gud at them anyway and do them with ease

@19daze98 and to list just a few of ballet competitions: ADC, ABC, YAGP, prix de lausanne, world ballet competition,varna international ballet competition. and yes, there are more than 10,000 people and almost all of them train almost 24/7, so yes, they are unbelievable.

@jfrekkin ......Because breakers hav trained hard to get to that level some from the ages of 3...so if u give breakin' the same amount of time it has been around as ballet u would be more impressed with Breakin which u dont seem to be at the moment - maybe all u have seen from it is what u have seen on t.v?

HipHop (Breakin) is every dance combined thats why it's the best to me....doin a pirouette is like spinning on yr head, elbo or hands but yr upside down! and it's a freestyle dance as well as choreographed sets / theres fun in it / n very competitive / u can do it in a club / u can do it in the streets and on stage.As a dance n the music has only been around for 40 years and look at the level it's already at.

They've been schooled since they were like 5, at BALLET specific schools to get where they are now. Pretty sure hip hop or whatever can't hold a candle to that.

@jfrekkin let me tell ya... wat ballet dancers do on their feet "breakers" do on their friggin head, elbos and hands (and feet) .....they defy the lows of gravity. does any actual originality go into ballet? it all looks the same to me......wheres the fun in it too? yes i'd like to see those "stars" (wat an illusion) go up against "gamblerz", mortal combat", "rock steady crew", skill methods< boogie brats etc. breakers start that young too....and are self taught. ok this is fun to watch but seriously (hiphop) B-boyin vs ballet doesnt work....how do u judge that???? it's just a film!!!!!! Breakin' can be just as graceful as ballet btw...plus the breakers in the movie was not of a great high standard.....watch real breakin clips and tell me its not as hard as ballet - or go to a bboy jam. At the end of the day hav respect for both (all) dance stylez...which is sort of the point of the film.

I don´t like stereotyping at all.... and this is definetely showing the wrong ide of ballett and hip hop. Both sports are extremely exhausting and need a lot of practise, but still I don´t think its ok to let ballett look so GAY. it´s a very hard sport and everything else but baby dance. They don´t show the effort you have to put into dancing. Just my opinion :) On the other side... it´s just a movie :D

im sorry your rigtht..its just that ive danced ballet since i was little and when i when I took a hip hop class it wasnt that hard to catch on, ballet has really built a foundation for me to be able to dance other types of dances, i meant to say that a ballet dancer with no hip hop background could dance hip hop, but it would take a hip hop dancer longer to learn the ballet technique!!!
