You know...you can talk about it, but without seeing it, it loses something.
I am flat footed and suffer shin splints. I would like to run, but it hurts too bad. The technique you're describing doesn't explain it well enough. :-) I guess I'll keep looking.
@jackson4socks The videos as the Channel describes are intended to be viewed as if I am coaching you One-on-One. I have been coaching long enough to read between the lines and you definitely sound frustrated and negative. I would recommend you seeking out an experienced sports podiatrist and or a physical therapist for your complaints. No video will help you with the biomechanic and stability issues you might have.
I FOUND I BIG BENEFIT OF D-FEX IS IT TAKES ALL THE STRESS OFF MY CALF MUSCLES AND REDUCES IMPACT TO MY BODY!
After finishing a very hilly race on Wednesday which included some really fast downhill on tarmac I was amazed that I had no aches or pains after! Thanks for the video!
I have had a sore calf for months and went to a sports physio, he said check my strike?? eh, so I googled and this come up, now i know why I am sore, after 6 half marathons and 3 years of running I will need to seriously re educated myself, thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thanks for your comments and I hope you are able to reconstruct your foot strike to optimize efficiency and of course, get rid of the gastroc soreness.
You may also want to have a podiatrist look at your foot mechanics.
Thankyou, I already did, and it seems I have got very very flat feet, I went to a specialised running shop and got new asic trainers.(god your good, lol) When I started running it was to loose wt(which I did, over 100 lbs !) and I just muddled along in private, I wish I had went for some advice to start with but better late than never. Thanks again, all the best from sunny Scotland.
Thanks for your quick response coach. Posted a longer message but had to edit it due to length. Injury happened during running not doing the drills. Injury is back of leg 5'' above back of knee on the inside - should have done the drills then integrated it into my running. It just happened today (day 2) after a long lay-off-most likely pushed too hard too soon & that's where the type A comes into the equation. Thanks for all the work & effort you are making. John
Type A personality here - injured myself practicing high cadence combined with d-flex ... walked home like my foot was in a ski boot that's for sure. So should I wait till totally pain free or gut it out as soon as possible?
First, you should consult a medical professional or trainer for advice.
It is simply not possible for me to comment on an injury I don't have specific and first hand knowledge of.
I am sorry you've hurt yourself. That is quite unusual with these drills. Please have someone observe you doing them or if you're so inclinded post a running drill 30 second video reply and I'll make commentary once your injury (you didn't say what happened) is under care and is improved.
A lot of words to say something very simple: To run efficiently, aim for short, quick strokes, not long strides, which are less efficient. And keep the amount of distance your feet are raised up to the bare minimum. If you are bouncing up and down, your stride is too long. Keep your feet directly under your body as you move foreword, as much as possible, that is. Follow that, and the proper technique should come naturally.
I have no desire to have millions of people see me. I'll leave that to you. People can read what I wrote underneath your video, anyway. Thank you for your kind attention.
So does this mean that you should develop more of a midsole/mid -foot strike as opposed to a true heel strike. I have heard tips before about developing a midsole strike and they seem to come full circle with what you are describing in the video. Thanks, great video!
Yes, this is exactly the position. Land on the heel and applied braking force occurs. Land missole and you'll reduce "braking" and reuse stored energy much more efficiently.
Just wanted to say thank you. I really appreciate your time and effort in publishing these videos. They are very straight to the point, clear, helpful and perfectly well explained.
I've been looking for videos on tri stuff off and on now for the past month and just came across your stuff. This is exactly what I've been looking for. There are a lot of people who can do it, but not everyone can break it down to simple terms to understand, and that is a gift, coupled with intelligence. Thank you for spending the time in helping those of us who will probably never meet you or give back to you like you have given to us. Thank you!!
I am grateful for this type of videoes to you, live in mexico and it is difficult to find experienced trainers, is a great support thank you very much, continues putting mas videoes and luck, we meet running
Not so much in terms of multimedia and video, but the technique was very well explained, straightforward and easy to understand. Now why didn't I think of this before? I could definitely have used this advice back in high school cross country.
Thanks! Remember, the videos are to be viewed as if we're working one on one. However, I am trying as time and expertise improved to add more media/video aspects.
Thanks for commenting positively. Much appreciated.

Very good. You're "re-using" stored energy and that's what you're feeling.
Thanks for your comments.
