Not a bad start, however it'd probably be less expensive to have the map stay where it is, and have a 2D camera follow the player. It'd achieve the same effect, you just wouldn't be trying to move an ungodly amount of pixels around. But for your purposes, this method works fine
That's sad. I don't have the time to do it from start but I see that I will have to. Is there any place where I can get some graphic to do this? I want spritesheets, cause I'm lazy and don't want to do them myself (not good in graphics :/).

You are only moving the map image and playing the cahacter animation right? The char is always in the center.
