I have a question for you. im trying to run 3 pc system in my basement. Just for the perpose of having a couple friends over and gaming on the internet. Yes for insdance black ops. these internet network switches are they reliable for having more than 1 pc running. Do you have any recomendations on how i should look into to running more than 1 pc at a time for gaming. ty i can use the help.
Long story short cat 6 is better and is about the same money as cat5e so which one makes the most sense to get. Cat6 is like having cat5e transfering the most data it can at all times but cat6 go go further. CAT 6 FTW
is it hard to add a gigabit ethernet connector to a computer because right now it doesnt have it all it has is a normal internet slot and is there a real big diffrence if i did i would say my internet speed is like 1mbps ya i know sucks
Why do i need a gigabit router when my internet provider isn't giving me gigabit internet.?? Just got some gigabit switches for internal copying. ? So the data doesn't transfer to my router at all, when doing in building transfers. Got a 100Mbit line to router and with 50Mbit internet connection this setup works for me.
I'm installing a whole house CAT 6 system i my house, with maximum redundancy i can afford, problem is, nothing consumer grade can tap the 10GBASE-T my network is capable of, not even the backplane switch, which is a JGS524 from NETGEAR. i mounted it all on a custom upside down U-Mount rack hanging from my ceiling joyce's in my basement. once 10GBASE-T devices come out, i'll be ready for it. Advice?: REMEMBER TO CHECK FOR T-568 A OR B!!! or it's going to seriously cost you.
hello there im a gamer, and i love to play online, i have a ps3 and was wondering if connecting a cat6 cable to my router would give me more online speed than a cat5.??
@stdavross666 Thanks, actually I have thought the same, is this means that the shorter the cable the better the transfers? U know less cable, less resistance. "Resistance is futile" Im concerned about this cause I need to use data on different drives in my network, so I wouild like to know how can I manage drives in other PCs as fast as in mine. Tnhanks
I guess that future is for optical fiber. As it is getting cheaper and cheaper and more sophisticated, eventually it will cost the same as Cat5e nowadays and will substitude copper cables. While its a bit more pita to deploy optical fiber networking, but it has so much more possibilities and higher reliability over its copper brotherhood. Needless to say about the distance.
The Siemon Company makes Cat 7a product. It's rated for 10G Copper solutions. It's a shielded 4 pair cable with the individual pairs shielded. I believe it's rated to handle 1000Mhz. The connector is not like an RJ45 type plug. However, The Siemon Company provides cable assemblies that will go from a Tera connector to an RJ45 plug for connectivity into regular switches.
y would u need fire-optic in ur area, the cable from ur isp is coaxial or dsl, "the fiber-optic router" will change the signal to light so it can be sent over FO, but u will also need a NIC capable of reciving FO
There will always be network upgrades, and new premise cabling to go with that. Some wiseguy once suggested to me that I run low voltage conduit through the walls. That radically cuts the cost of rewiring everything.
And "realistic28" is a certified noob if he thinks silver-satin phone line will reliably carry 10 base-T, let alone one of the Ethernet speeds invented in the last 15 years.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
blah,blah,blah........It's how the Ethernet cable is wired by the pins. Go buy Ethernet connectors, the crimping tool and the 4 wire phone line. Regardless of wire does not matter as long the wire will insert into the fins of the connector. Ethernet cable is a rip off! Phone line much cheaper. Then Google the wire schematic for the cable you want to make. IE straight through (cat5) only uses pins 1,2,3 and 6. pins 4,5,7 and 8 are not used.
The Router does not necessarily need to be gigabit, as long as you connect the router to a Gigabit switch and then run all your devices off that switch. remember, your internet is still only 10mb/s
I have to say that cat5 can go for higher speeds. I'm a cabling systems installer and I use the different types of cat5 from the regular cat5 to cat5e 100mhz to the cat5e 350mhz, so it all depends on how mush money you want to spend, but I will say that cat5 cabling in a house is enough to handle a nice and fat network, cat6 and cat7 can be used more for commercial applications because a lot of data is being transfer. and as an extra I would recomend fiber optics running (telco to home)notinside
yes cat5 and cat6 and cat7 have the same Rj45 plug.
any ways I have to say that it does not matter if you change from a cat5 to cat6 cord the speed does not change in your situation.
to have a whole network and or internet improvement you will need to change all the wiring to cat6,router,and even the your bandwidth connection to go up to cat6 standard.
thanks mate, thats the info i was lookin for, for 30mins lol..
just to make sure.. If i connect a cat6 cable to my old 4port router(3yrs old maybe? i think its cat 5) and then run that to my ps3 witch is cat5e.. would it work? no issues?
No problem a cat5, or cat 6 have the same ends, the only difference betwen is that cat6 is made for faster speeds, longer runs and also better insullation. (recommended for commercial applications) so I dont see any problem if you change to cat6 cord.
Cat5e doesnt have an insulator in the middle while Cat6 have it..The purpose of the insulator is to prevent cross-talk so that can achieve up to 1 GB..Clipsal Brand Cat6 cable can go up to 10 Gigabit below 37 meter..
Get it from Advancenet Technology (North) Sdn Bhd..Malaysia
standard cat-5 is not shielded (if it is its all four pair together in one foil type tube) cat-6 is shielded pairs ie blues/oranges/greens/browns are shieled in ther own pairs
Yes..Cat6 is backward compatitble..If you using 100Base network card and Cat6 cable,it will still 100Mb..If you change the card to 1000Base,It will run 1 GB...
ehh... why would you need a gigabit router when the fastest ISP only pushes 10 meg? Unless he's taking about a router/switch combo, then I could see that...
Then it would still be pointless.. you'd want a gig switch for a home network, not a router. A router only sends packets from one subnet to the other to cut down on broadcast traffic.

CAT 7a is expensive and rare to get/buy still.
But with the new prices on optical fibers I would just use it anyway.

Imho Cat 6 is pointless for a home network or even a small business network.
The limiting bottle neck will allways be the Hard Disks and controllers.
I would rather invest in SAS drives than cables that are hardly going to be taken advantage of.
