This is great, and I wish I'd seen it a couple of years ago when I was trying to figure things out with my new wheelchair! I might have taken the anti-tips off sooner and begun working on the balance stuff. Which you explain beautifully, by the way. Yay for "tippy" chairs! The techs don't like me to have such a tippy chair, but it improves my push efficiency as well as enabling me to do wheelies, get up the step to my local cafe, and so on. Thanks for posting this!
@thekeyboardsmash I lucked out in rehab...when it was clear that I wasn't leaving my wheelchair behind any time soon, they were the ones who initiated teaching me all this stuff. It's a LOT easier than it looks!... (says the one with a really sucky balance).
Could you get up a small step with that method, such as to board a London underground train? I ask b/c some guy wrote an article saying that step-free access to Tube platforms was pointless because of the step up from the platforms to the trains.
Love your chair! Is that a TiLite? I'll be getting my very own wheelchair in a few weeks - the frame will be all polishd titanium and then im getting pink spokes..

I haven't been long in a wheelchair and so I am still getting used to what I can and can't do in it, but I am finding I can't get over even little curbs or bumps at doors/at beginning of ramp if ramp isn't too good. I just don't seem to have enough strength to get the front castors off the ground.
What kind of wheelchair do you have? Mine has parallel wheels and it is sooo hard to push it.
