  • I see two different versions of picot edging in your videos. One seems like it would be thicker (in your picot hem video) because you fold it over. However, in your cast on picot edging it seems like it would be less thick. Which did you use here? It seems like the one that doesn't require the fold over but below you recommended the picot hem video.

  • @kabrink

I used the picot hem, the one that's folded over, on this blanket.

  • How many stitches would you say are good for a baby blanket? i wanted to make one for my nephew when he was born, and he is a year old in february! i'm a little late haha.

i learned to knit in a crafts class in my highschool about 6 years ago, and my teacher wasn't too great at hands on teaching or even paying much attention to the class. i only know how to do the main knit stitch and i've only really knitted scarves. i wish there was a group near by where i live to get more experience!

  • @quilee

the number of stitches depends on the yarn and the needle size. look on the label when you buy the yarn and it will tell you how many stitches you'll get with the needle size they recommend. If you go to a yarn shop there will be someone there to help you. You can make it as big or little as you want. Have fun knitting again. I would suggest you do the garter stitch. Knit every row.

  • What technique did you use to block it? It looks beautiful!

  • @barbylucedistelle

sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I just did a very light steam. With softball cotton you don't have to do much of anything.

  • wow that looks really nice! thankyou for sharing :)

  • @RandomGoth1000

I'm finding so many comments from you. Thanks for writing. It's a great blanket. You should make one!

  • How did you do the picot edge?

  • @BeStrixed

watch my video on How to Knit a Picot hem.

  • How can I knit that big of a blanket ? I mean, the needles arent so long that I can have that many stitches on..

  • @makeupLover187

you need to use a long circular needle and knit as if it were a straight one. see my video on HOW TO KNIT STRAIGHT ON A CIRCULAR NEEDLE for a demonstration of how to do that.

  • Hi Judy,

I'm thinking of adding an edging of some type to a blanket I"m making (the blanket feels like it's going to be a bit smaller than I wanted, so I wanted to use edging to make it a bit bigger), and I'm wondering how you did the corners of this edging. Did you just pick up stitches along the side of the edging as well as the main body of the blanket? It looks like that's what you did to me, when I get a look at the corners, but I thought I'd ask.

  • @D0N0tJudgeMe

yes, you were right. that;s what I did. If you want to make it even bigger knit rows in garter stitch, then do the picot edge.

  • hello, just a quick question: how many stitches would you add for a stroller blanket?

  • @JCCessy07

It depends on the yarn and needles. Pick your yarn and follow the suggested needle size printed on the label. Then make a swatch. There's no correct size. Happy knitting. Please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Very cute blanket =) Gotta love those picot edges.

  • @Rekkanotara

me too. thanks for writing. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Beautiful work, Judy. I aspire to your perfection

  • @plhartmann1947

you;re too kind. you can do it just as well as I can. happy knitting!

  • Hi Judy, I love this baby blanket with the picot edge and am now knitting one for my nephew's baby due in Jan 2011. I've never attempted a project without a set pattern but you make everything look so easy so I'm doing it with confidence. You're the BEST!

Watching your videos is like attending class with you. Thanks again :-)

  • @virginknitter

thanks again. I'm so happy when I hear that someone is confident enough to make something without a pattern. That makes it one of a kind and truly special. Congratulations on doing that.

  • Hi Judy, I am absolutely loving your videos, thank you so much. How many stitches do you cast on for the baby blanket and what size/shape needle do you use? Also, do you have a video that shows how to do the neck and arm bands for a children's vest?

    Thank you again :)

  • @ummizm

Cast on as many stitches as you need to make the size blanket you want. There's no set size. Use needles suggested for the yarn you use. I'll add your suggestions to my "to do" video list. Glad you're liking the videos. Please keep watching for more.

  • How much yarn did you use?

  • @cooksalot1

I used about 9 oz. of yarn. It depends on the size of the blanket though.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy Well I just love this blanket. I'm thinking of working that bamboo pattern into a blanket I already do for all the new babies at church.

  • @cooksalot1

great idea to working the bamboo pattern into your baby blanket. it'll look great.

  • Wow, just beautiful!

  • @blackkittie

thanks so much. I love it too. New video today.

  • A beautiful blanket.

  • @landsell

    thanks!

  • I would so love to see you do a how to video on this blanket I have learned so much from your videos keep them coming

  • @margohay

There is a video on how to do the Bamboo Stitch and another one on how to make a Picot Edge so, basically there are all the instructions you need. Give it a try.

  • I really appreciate your very informative videos. You have a great, easy approach to teaching and I love all the tips I have learned, especially how to add new color and weave in the ends by knitting them in. I think I must be a tight knitter, or I'm using the wrong size needles for the project. It is hard for me to knit two stitches together for the like lace stitch stitch, I actually broke the end off a plastic needle!

  • @nancyschaefer1

thanks for the nice note. glad you like the videos. please keep watching. new one today. try to relax so you're knitting isn't so tight and try using a smaller needle too. don;t want to be breaking needles! lots of people have trouble in the beginning. keep at it.

  • beautiful blanket.

  • @crochethabit

    thanks!
