So I take it the internal speaker was originally a 4 ohm as well, or no? I realize you changed the OPT (probably the biggest favor you can do this amp besides running it through a cabinet with larger speakers) but what was the minimum load required by the original OPT? Also, was the stock speaker ceramic? Bet it would fill out nicely with a nice old alnico jensen 8" inside, and a 1x15 extension cab underneath.....for the price, I really gotta get me one of these.
That is a nice sounding set up. I'm kinda stuck in the middle when it comes to which type of amp to use. When I'm playing Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera ect. ect. I find an analog amp sounds best. but when I'm playing Suicide Silence, Job For A Cowboy, Annotations Of An Autopsy, The Agony Scene ect. ect. I find a digital amp does the best job. WHY CAN'T THE WORLD BE SIMPLE AND MAKE A DIGITAL ANALOG AMP THAT RUNS ON SOULS!!!
I figure it should run on souls...seems logical to me.
Nice video. I have a gun too and love it. But this is about the Bugera and you made it rock. Love the cab and the mods! Gonna do the same mods on mine. May go Mercury Magnetics but I don't see how it could sound any better than the heyboer you have here. Thanks!
the store I work at sells the Bugera V5 and I've plugged in a few store guitars with it at low volume and plugged a Tele of mine in and cranked it, and I'd say it's a good amp. Don't be fooled by the price tag or brand.
Assuming you can afford a VOX AC30 with blue alnico speakers (which is really expensive) I would have gone for a Blackstar HT-5 instead of a Bugera V5...
But congrats on the mod, doesn't sound too bad. Cheers
Ok, maybe I didn't really explain myself. My thinking was that he got the Bugera V5 and then had to modify it to accommodate better specs. If he's not someone who can make it on his own, he had to cash out some money to get it done... In the end of the day it could have cost him the same he would have paid for a superior combo.
I would expect someone with a VOX AC30 to go for something better, saving up the money so that their tone would be less compromised...
This guy is one of the best pedal builders around and can basically mod anything. Believe me i should know i own or have owned quite a few of his pedal and they are superb. Modding the Bugera was something he probably done purely for fun. Where in that video do you see an AC30 i don't know about you but i saw an ac30 cab.
It isn't just a cab. It is a ripped AC30, i.e. the amp was taken away.
The mod itself is actually not bad at all, he showed that at the thing can have a sweet tone. I personally like the looks of the Bugera as well.
I'm not saying he made a mistake... I'm just expressing myself. He's free to build or destroy anything he wants. I didn't know about his skills with electronics, so that alone would take the extra cash out of the mod equation. :)
Have a look at his other Covingtonpedals videos and you'll see what he can really do. A homemade AC30, pedals etc... And i know it's a ripped AC30 in this vid which he uses as a cab.
For the money you'd spend on a ht5 you could get a bugera 100 watt head though,so that'd be impractical. As good as the blackstar sounds, its better to just settle for the v5 and use the remainder as a launch for a head.
gotta disagree with you RNRDOLL.the whole point of the ht5 is that you can get cranked tube tone without having to push a 100 watt power section. The blackstar is great for home recording without bringing the roof down. you can get a mini-stack for 500-600 bucks.
do the blackstars sound any better ?/ i own a blackheart bh15 handsome devil and the tone in mine just killer ,,i owned the little giant too but it just didnt have as good of tone as the handsome devil ...just curious
did you add a choke?

Hey man. Nice video. I just got this amp, and i'm looking to do the same 4ohm and 16ohm output jack upgrade. Any clues for me?

Hello how did you made this amp have so much distortion? do you have a pedal inside your guitar? :P
How does it sound compared to your Firefly?
Appreciate the help :)

Hi man, amazing tone.
I have a question: this amp is a 8" 4 ohm speaker, I can conect this amp to a cabbinet with 12" 8ohm speaker?
This affect my volume, headrom or what?
Thanks

@carlosayalapaz You will lose a little bit of volume. But it is safe.

He has one expensive thing, therefore he can afford two? That doesn't make sense dude. It doesn't really say anything either way, you know?
