  • I don't think that counts. What rumors are talking about manually exposure is that using iso, shutter, and aperture to control the exposure. By using your methods, noise occurs in low light.

    Thanks for you effort anyway.

  • Badly spoken, badly shot, boring. All in all a total waste of everyone's time. Get off the net and get a real job.

  • this is exposure compensation. it's digital not optical. so pretty much it's useless

  • Try not to suck gum or stuff when you are speaking and try to get in focus what you want to show.

  • Continued, part 3:

While this may sound convoluted, it gives you more convenient control over exposure than Manual mode would. Here's how you use it in practice:

    1. Set your desired aperture in Aperture Priority mode.

    2. If you prefer, adjust focus in the viewfinder.

    3. Enter Live View mode and confirm focus.

    4. If needed, use Exposure Compensation to set desired shutter speed.

    5. Press Exposure Lock button.

    6. Press Video Record button to start filming.

  • Thank you. That was very helpful and helps me decide between the D5100 vs T3i. What happens when you adjust EV in Program or Manual modes?

  • am i missing something here? Isn't what he is doing is changing the shutter speed? not exposure, im not too sure though.

  • @IfYouSeeKAE21 exposure is the result of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings. Changing one while keeping the others the same is changing the exposure.

  • Thank you. This was a HUGE help to me. I just picked up my camera not too long ago and I'm new to DSLRs so I had to learn the functions of the camera quick. This was such a great tutorial.

  • thank u very much. one last thing... what about the iso? u can control it also while recirding?

  • @raulrolandorios.. yes..there are two option for iso its either auto iso or manual iso it is on camera menu or watch my video the easy way to lock the exposure.

  • while recordig? o before star record? thx!!

  • @raulrolandorios. both

  • Hello!! what about the aperture? can you control it also?

  • @raulrolandorios.. yes you can.

  • Thank you for the very useful video but the way you say NIKON in the first second of the video is epically hilarious!

  • @Stormwatch153 i know i can't speak good english LOL!!!

  • @anthonyjg25 No, no. You speak a very good English, but the way you said it, your mood in that very moment, it's so funny, NHF!

  • The complaint about the auto exposure is not that you can or can't alter it while in video mode, it's whether or not the camera will make unwanted changes while you are filming. If he had moved the camera back and forth from a bright area to a dark area, you would have seen the camera change the exposer on it's own. I wanted this camera sooo bad until I found this out. If someone can display a true manual control of exposure while filming in HD I would appreciate it.

  • @GilligansIland

hi thanks for the comment i'll make another video hopefully it hepls.

  • @GilligansIland

hi thanks for the comment. i'll make another video hopefully it helps about the exposure.

  • @GilligansIland Actually you can set in the controls menu AE-Lock(hold) which holds the exposure you set. I know as i just tried it. You are saying about exposure changing by itself if you move from dark to light? All you have to do is assign AE-L(Hold) function to the AE-Lock button on the camera. Let me warn you that there are people on youtube that dont know how to do this and are saying false info about this cam on youtube. On the menu go controls/f2 and assign AE-Lock (hold) option to cam.

  • @2000kenm p.s. dont forget afterwards you have to then press the ae-l button to enable the exposure lock. hope this helps

  • That's not complete manual control.

  • First in auto focus rumors well yeah i'm a little bit disappointed beacause the mic its so close to the lens motor that's why you hear the sound but when i taking a video i'll set my lens to manual focus so you can't hear any noise from lens. there is a microphone 5 selection.1 microphone off 2.microphone sensitive 1. micro. sens 2 to 3 and auto sensitive. so it depend how you to jog it. because me when i jog it, i jog it slowly so u can't hear anything but if u jog it normally yes u hear d sond

  • thankyou for this video! u just made my desition... it was this or the t3i... i have used a nikon D300s and this is the way to do it in that one too... now that i know it can be done in the d5100 i can now go get this one for sure!... one question... does the jog wheel make a sound when scrolling? like the autofocus that when u play video you can hear it... can u hear the jogwheel too?
