  • Great review, just great!

  • Dude, your reviews Rock. Simple as that.

  • I like the door. Did you paint it?

  • I traded my Spyderco Military s90v for a Strider AR liner lock

  • It's funny to me that I've come back to this video after a while having purchased myself a Sebenza and I'd like to thank you. I finally got a hair up my bumb and got myself a Sebenza. Then I got a Sebenza Insingo and I absolutely love them both. I feel like airplanes are made with less precision than CRK puts into his knife designs. Now my collecting has become a lot more expensive.

  • Enjoyed your video and commentary!

  • @lisantica THANKS! Nothing like some of yours, but these are goodies!

  • How do you feel about the paramilitary 2

  • @shipyardbob had one for a few months now.. its definitely one of my favs... prob is if I did a review... which I may, it would just say "If you reeeealy appreciate these tools... buy a sebenza."

  • Awesome house. I love that look.

  • What's that opening you did with the Military at the 4:25 mark? It didn't seem like a standard "thumb flick" deployment to me.

  • What's the difference between the regular Sebenza and the 21?

  • my favorite would probably b the umnumzaan

  • I knew you would choose those two. We have identical tastes in knives. Palabra a tu madre.

  • This is my first comment on youtube. I figured I would thank you for your review on the spyderco military. I bought the g-10/s30v version about 3 weeks ago and I love it. I have used knives for a long time but never actually bought really nice knives. I have just recently got into buying and using really good quality folders so I had to do the research. My first purchace was the spyderco sage 2 and then the military. I also have a large sebenza 21 on the way that I really excited about.

  • the Military is near flawless in design and superbly made, in a league all it's own

  • actually the SNG was the first "pricey" knife i bought. and lets just say ... i wasnt too excited when it came. i was hoping for more WOW-effect. dunno.

so now i am trying to get my hands on a small sebenza. but of course i am down on cash. actually i was thinking of selling the SNG. what do you think? should i rather wait and keep the SNG? or sell it to own a sebenza RIGHT NOW :-)

im kind of on the fence here. THX in ADV

  • @DonnieCallister I would sell the SnG. Keep in mind that the small Sebs handle will be a LOT smaller than the SnGs though. I greatly prefer the Lg. Seb. I LOVE the SnG, but it takes up tooo much pocket space for me... and I like the tip of the blade to be FAR better covered by the handle when closed.

  • @iAMboognish size wise, i still have a ZT 0302. so the SnG is kinda in the middle between ZT and Sm SEB. I mean ... i love the SnG. no doubt! but i have no use for it. i cant handle it at work without "getting the look" and for outdoor stuff i like the ZT better.

i am a lefty (IMO the SnG opens easier left handed). but the SEBs come as leftys too. and like you said: SEBs are more of a slicing knife. thats just what i need. then again ... i just ordered a para military. still sell SnG?

  • Another excellent review. Thank you. I appreciate your straight forward style. Very beneficial. Look forward to more.

  • Hey there,Richard here again,I,unfortunately do not own any of Chris Reeves no doubt, very awesome knives but have known about him and the amazing blades he creates for many years and will probably get one or two as soon as i can afford it/them.Another maker you may be interested in is Robert"Bob"Terzoula.I have really liked his very straight edged blade design and awesome craftsmanship also for some time and want one of his folders also.Take care and Thankyou..Richard in Calgary,Alberta,Canada.

  • Hey there my friend how are ya!!I've been watching your very wicked knife reviews/vids for a while now and gotta congratulate you on an excellant job and great taste in blades.I too, love the Spyderco Military and also have the plain edge version and in CPM-S30V blade steel and i must agree its a very wicked knife,i like it alot.Another fav of mine is my Benchmade 550HG Griptilian which i picked up locally last December,Awesome thin n sharp e.d.c.tool!!Keep doin the cool vids!!Thankyou..Richard.

  • great video man. Im really enjoying hearing your view of these knives. I have both and I have to agree they are both amazing. I have a small sebenza on the way as well as a para military and I can see these 4 being my main carry knives.

    Great video.

  • Have you ever reviewed the Buck/Tops CSAR Tanto knife? I want it and it looks like a beast if you can handle the weight.

  • power. your cool man. sebenza definitely a nice one ,more a fan of reeve's one piece fixed blades, though. anyway if i had to pick my favorite knife i would have to choose "Shaitan" thats the name of my south american machete i shaped down to about a 10 inch clip point bowie blade. 22 hand ground teeth run down the spine and handle which is pretty hardcore plastic, black. me and this blade are kindred if my house is burning my children would be in my arms this blade in my waistband.

  • So you're living in ruins?? Where do you shower/cook/do laundry? That sounds awesome, but I probably couldn't survive lol. I would love to live deep i n a forest though, how sick would that be

  • you must be all over the ti-military then? - combing your two favorite knives in one!

  • It's so funny how you say, "The Sebenza 21 is my favorite knife," and then go on to gush for most of the time about the Military! LOL! Either way, I hear ya! Was that the carbon fiber S90V model you referenced? I couldn't tell from the video. Looks like it might a G10 S30V.

  • "Its beyond me, Its an implanted fear of your own self."....lmao.

    Agreed..

Get back to me on the location in which you filmed this... Im curious how you went about living in this "Ghost Town" in Texas... Does anyone hassle you for living there? Is it Legal?... Quasi legal?... I just find what your doing and how your living very fascinating... Are there other locations out west where people do this ? Do other free spirits live in other abandoned buildings nearby.?

  • The Terlingua Ghost Town is actually pretty well known. I could write a LOT about it. Personally I live there in the Winters for many reasons... mostly Freedom and good people. I rent the ruin, which, since I did this video I have rebuilt considerably. It is actually difficult to find a place like mine though... It was easy only 15 years ago though. In the community of ruins where I live there are around 6 residents. There is a fun documentary about it called 24 Hours In Terlingua.

  • This man would bore the living day lights out of any body...

  • hi archman I was thinking of trading my large sebenza for a sng. I was wondering you thought on the matter. I recently sent my knife in to get siver thumb lug and back spacer. I like the silver because after a while the blue will come off.

  • well... it should be an even trade either way... back and fourth if you end up with that preference. Personally I've been there and done that and I (think I've) narrowed it down to these two. Sebenza is the "one" and the Millie is the "go to." Honestly, I EDC the Lg 21 and have the Millie for backup... it would not be the first Sebenza that I've given to the gods!

  • Nice Video man, I'm watching you from France!

  • Archman! saw one of your older vids on the military..bought one after that! used it in deer camp skining and gutting worked great. thanks for opening my eyes too a great folder! thanks brother

  • hey man, i work on a golf course and im lookin for a titanium handled knife that can take some hard use. I have narrowed it down to the ti millie, the sebenza 21, and the bradley alias, what do you recomend, price not being an issue.

  • Here's my take on it. Spyderco is great, but the Ti Military just came out and is unproven. I would wait a little while before buying that. The Bradley Alias is discontinued. The Sebenza has been in production for over 20 years and not much has changed about it. It's a very reliable choice.

  • Man I made my way through 248 a couple years back. Stayed in a ruin for a couple months. It's amazing how well built those buildings are...nothing builds like stone. Really enjoying your videos bro. I'm betting you got your sights set on a titanium military as well

  • Wow! small world, eh! I was in "The" Ghostown for five winters before these two @ 248.... which one were you in? ...and no, I'm not really interested in the Ti Millie.. I figure with the same screws as the G10 version (bsing the weak point of the knife) there really is no point in carrying a heavier knife... Sebenza EDC all the way!

  • Yeah I was @ 248 as well, and also checked out some of the surrounding areas... Study Butte and such. Yeah I'm with you on the Sebenza, you get what you pay for. I currently have a large seb 21, strider SNG, DGG and PT. It's a slippery slope obsession.

  • @iAMboognish Hmmm... I'm a little surprised to hear you say that. I don't have a Ti Millie yet either, but I'm sure one will make its way over to my house soon enough. I know how you hate the small screws, but I always kinda thought that the kinda small liner lock going on in the Millie is the weakest link there. The Reeve integral lock on the Ti Millie will take care of that. Then there's still the screws, but I think overall it would be a much stronger knife.

  • My current EDCs are either a Spyderco Military or Lone Wolf Diablo.

..... and someone looks like they could use a nap.

  • Lol I open all my spydercos the way you did at 4:22 (except for my endura wave. That's funny though, I don't see anyone else opening their knives with their middle finger.

  • got me a large sebenza 21, at first was I couldnt see myself spending so much money on a knife. I got the sebenza and now I think it was worth every penny.

  • Got my Sebenza in today and I'm enthralled. This knife is indeed a piece of work.

  • I just ordered my first Sebbie from Plaza Cutlery. Broke my heart dumping $400, but I think it's going to be worth it.

  • ces't la vie! If you have owned ANY other folding knife and you have reasonable perception, you will definitely be happy!

  • My top two picks as well! I would have to throw my SMF in there with these two aswell though.. Keep it up Archie!

  • Man I get his views but I'm just a little upset he didn't mention the sng

  • "An implanted fear of your own self." ~ Damn, wasn't that the truth! For once a knife vid not done by a 40 yr old Cub Scout stammering and stuttering in a nasal tone with his star wars figurines in the background. This gives me hope that normal functional human beings collect knives too.

  • HAHAHAHAHA! THANKS Man!

  • Great vid! I've been carrying the seb myself the last few weeks, but am really looking forward to the titanium millie coming out next year. I think it may be the only knife that may kick the seb out of my pocket for any amount of time. Keep up the cool vids, very informative:)

  • what do you think about anso knives?

  • I know they are spendy! Some interesting designs for sure!

  • since nov böker comes out with the haddock by anso. maybe that`s a chance to get a great knive for about 270USD, what do you think? do you have any anso knives in usage? the german version of the haddock comes with nail nick- thumb disc and speed opening are illegal here. i am not quite sure if it`s possible to open it with one hand- you have an idea or experiences?

by the way: thanx for your vids- they are very helpfull!

  • I like the Military, but prefer the Paramilitary, saying that the 710 M'cHenry & Williams Benchmade would be on par with the Paramilitary and Military. Would be nice to see what you think of that knife.

  • I love both of these knives as well. I sold the mili just because its kinda huge to EDC. just felt like overkill for what i was using it for. I'd like to see some fixed blade reviews, i know you dont like the traditional look of a lot of Bark river knives, but i think you would be very impressed with there performance. P.S. Nice shanty you got there

  • I'd have to say the Sebenza would be my favorite also. It's really a tough call though. I prefer the Small Sebenza 21.

Really enjoy your videos! Keep them coming! 5 Stars!

  • I love the military as well. Can't find my financial way to a Sebenza quite yet, though I've spent thousands of dollars trying not to buy one, if you know what I mean. I'll get to it.

I was wondering if you've ever had a Benchmade 710. I don't recall you ever mentioning it before and I know a lot of people sort of hold it in the same regard as the Military.

    I dig the new surroundings!

  • The 710s I've played with in Shops have always been sloppy. I think it is a neat looking piece but there are two things keeping me from buying one.. the recurve blade and the thick grind.

  • Do you have any fixed blade favorites? I like the folders, but if I had to bet my life, I would choose a fixed blade!

  • Don't currently have one! ...which is stupid. I've owned lots though. Strider SA, CRK Nkonka, Green Beret 5.5", Shadow III, Benchmade Nimravus Cub, a custom I had made to my exact specs (can't believe I forget the maker...took like 5 months to get it!) Swamp Rat Rat Warden, Swamp Rat Hairy Carry.... to name the ones that come off the top of my head... My favorite fixed blade is an opened Sebenza! Of the FBs I've oened, I'd have to say the CRK Shadow III or SWKW Rat Warden were my favs.

  • Thanks for posting a new knife vid. You sold me on Spyderco a while back with the Paramilitary, but this one just hit the top of my Christmas wish-list. Thanks again. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • I have been into the bark river bravo 1 and 2 models. The thing that scares me about survival folders is the lateral or twisting on the blade that may be needed. Alot of folders would fail at this point...

  • Cool vid and the photos are awesome...

My favorite (so far) Benchmade 943.

  • I've bought quite a few more affordable blades from most of the better known knife manufacturers trying to figure out what I want in a knife before I drop a lot of coin to be disappointed, and these are two names that keep reappearing as far as people's favorite knives go. Of course there are wonderful customs out there, but as far as something you can buy and have in a few weeks, these are hard to beat. Sebenza="perfect benchmade," Military="poor man's Sebenza," etc. Benchmade 940 is also nice.

  • Great vid bro. I too am curious of your surroundings and why you are there and how long you will be there. -Lowry

  • Have you handled a Hinderer XM-18?

I own or have owned every knife you mentioned in the video and more. Including the SnG and Sebenza. I haven't touched my Sebenza or anything else since I got my XM-18. It is by far the best knife I have ever owned. I liked my 3" so much I bought a 3.5" a week later.

If you haven't EDC'd one I'd suggest you give it a try. I'd love to see you do a review too.

  • I always dig your knife vids, but this time my mind wasn't on the knives so much.... I'm very curious about your digs. I know about Terlingua, but your particulars are interesting. Why? How long you staying? Squattung alone or with roomies? Rent/fees? Food? Social life? Howz a feller end up out there? Email/PM if you can. Thanks.

  • I moved to Terlingua Seven years ago to work outside. I took a "Wilderness First Responder Medic" course and became a raft guide. There are 4 other houses/ruins just around me where some very cool people live. I am renting... any affordable land around here is i-so-lated and 4WD to get to. For the past 6 years I've been going to CO to guide on the Arkansas River in the Summer and have been to the Gualey River in the Fall. Lots of cool, very nice folks in Terlingua... and lots of crazies too!

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • Im really happy that there are people like you making these vids. I feel that I have made excellent choices for my first two knifes. My first one was the Paramilitary and the second one was a Sebenza 21 LG Micarta. Even though I have limited experience, I have taken both apart several times and put them back together with excellent results.

  • 9:07

    DOUBLE GUNNING.

  • hi archman, you dont seem to be a huge emerson fan from watching your vids.. would you choose the military over say a cqc-7? or are you just not into emersons in general? great vid by the way man...

  • I just prefer a thinner grind than the Emersons offer. I would not mind checking out an A100 though! They are made in the USA and have great materials.

  • yes the a100 is a cool looking knife and would probably be perfect for EDC, i think that is what emerson were going for with it, kind of a gentlemans emerson if you see what i mean. i must check out the military ive been putting it off for a while but your vid has got me interested in it again..

  • i have to say right now my mini grip but im buying a 940 soon and hope it will replace that and i dont like the spyderco blade shape so much but i really want to buy a sebenza

  • Spyderco's took a loooooooong time for me to actually get one. I started out with the Native, and really liked it, and have never turned back. I reckon if you try one that suits you a little bit, you'll find that it is better than you imagined!

  • @iAMboognish i have an endura 4 but i still dont like it and it actually doesnt stay sharp nearly as long as my griptilian or any of my knives really except maybe my sog flash 1 but even my crkt drifter stays sharp longer and i was thinking about maybe picking upa higher end spyderco and i was playing with a military but another thing i dont like is the opening hole i much prefer a stud but idk i still wanna buy something like a native

  • Cool video as always.

At the first look I thought you were in a ruin in Afghanistan :P

  • I don't have any relevant experience with the knives to criticize either one. I just notice that the pocket clip on the spyderco military looks as if it would make the knife ride high in the pocket, sticking out a decent amount. Do you find this to be less than ideal? Do you consider it an advantage? What are your thoughts on the pocket clip?

Thanks for the knife video - it helped me put off working on my immanent project 10 minutes longer :)

  • Yeah, the Millie does stick outta the pocket a bit... but it offers a great point of purchase if you need to get it out quick. I don't really like the three screws around the pivot screw, but everything else about the knife outshines it!

  • Both the sebenza and military are spectacular knives for sure. Personally though I like the benchmade 710 even though my approval of benchmade (and their products) has declined as of late.

  • Loved the vid bro. I need to get myself a military soon, hopefully the titanium, updated version. Good choices, sweet house, and keep the videos coming!

  • great vid thanx archman

  • Yeah Archman is back! Great video, and a nice place! I'm glad you don't put music in the background!

Two wonderful blade, I like the comfort of the Spydie and the exclusivity of the Sebenza.

I'm looking for a high end small edc blade. I watched your Mnandi review at least a hundred times, and I love that knife. But I never held it in my hands, is it easy to operate with one hand? You still own and recommend that blade?

Keep doing the vids, I love 'em! Thanks!

  • TENACIOUS!

    hehe

  • Why you no flip screws and double thumb lug with all silver hard wear? That's the best setup imo.

Times are tough for me I'm lusting for a 21, xm-18, and Overkill Q36. Damn this video!

  • Hey great review bro, keep em' coming. Think I'm getting a military soon. Hope you don't mind me asking and I apologize if you do but, why are you in a ghost town? haha

  • Terlingua is an amazing place... very 3rd world! It's just laid back and offers a lot of outdoor activity!

  • Damn,

I could hardly agree more! When you pass that four to five hundred dollar mark into the realm of semi-customs, the large majority of knives are well designed and solid built with similar materials like

    CPM-ish steel, ti, G-10 etc.

The question which knife is your favorite is hard to answer, me personally I look to which knife I intuitively go to when theres a chore at home or when I leave the house.

I really like your ramblin' arch, make more vids!

  • I am waiting for the titanium frame military from spyderco!

  • Me too - best of both worlds.

  • great choices

  • you living there while you fix it? O.o looks cool. My fave is my mini grip so far lol. 5/5
