Mr. Scheuerell! I got to listen to your amazing drumming back when i was 12 years old.. writing out all the drumparts of the Brother to Brother lp.Truly a masterpiece. You were a great inspiration for me to become the pro-drummer that i am now. Thank you so much for being around on my path! Freddy K
I was only 5 years old when this album came out, But I wish I could go back in time to see this particular concert. I went to see him at the House of Blues in 2005 in Chicago, GREAT SHOW!!!
Oh my! I thought Gino was hotter than the west end of hell! Boy could he shake it up! I still get excited watching him like he was then, I fell like I am at a Gino Vannelli concert back in the 70's again!
@tubebitch12 oh that really sucks. We're just to far from each other. Really am sorry for putting up your hopes. The distance is just too much. M here in Manila.

I have admired your drumming all these years. You were on Pauper in Paradise one of my favorite Gino albums. Thank you for your artistry and the pleasure of listening to you all these years. Could you write a blog or something and share with us Gino Fan addicts about your many experiences in the band. I know we would all love to read it ! Blessings to you Casey !
In the early '90's I experienced Gino and his music live at small venue in Orange Co.,Ca....He brought the house down...His voice, music, moves has it all and then some....Never gonna give up the Gino.....
Man, this clip has EVERYTHING!!! And Gino is EVERYTHING here!!! I mean, with how he's dressed--that whole pirate/rocker/love god thing he's got going!!! I mean, man OH man!!! There wasn't anyone better than Gino. There STILL isn't. His passion for everything that he puts into his art. Just truly AMAZING!!!
Gino was the tightest band ever? And what a vocal range. And the lyrics were intellectual. His music was a hodgepodge: jazzy, had grove thrown i'n with pop and a hint of rock. I had the biggest crush on him i'n the 70s Saw him in Mississippi i'n the mid 70s and still have most of his CDs. I call it Mood music.
@charlesenn ...sorry to disappoint you, I am not Graham Leer... altho' I couldn't agree more, he's an incredible drummer. My name is Casey Scheuerell, I followed Graham in the band, 1976-78.
Good friend recently made me a CD of Gino hits. This one has been stuck in my head for days. Now THIS! Wow, what a great musician and showman. Thanks for posting this, I love it!
I'm going to wear a white outfit just like this one, complete with knee high Jack Sparrow pirate /go-go style boots, during my company's next sales meeting!! When it's my turn to do the PowerPoint presentation, I'll erupt in a wild spectacle of wide-stance hip gyrations, simulated karate kicks, judo chops, followed by flailing arms simulating fighting off a swarm of Africanized honey bees.................Gino is the best!! Some serious musicians on this cut too.
Gino's ridiculous...musical tasteful...and an incredible singer...saw him on his comeback after 15 yr lay off at the Ritz w Joe Vanelli...tiggtest incredible musical performance...His voice and preparation is impeccable...watta force!
Gino was always an incredible force from heart stopping ballads, to some of the best "pop fusion and eloquent prog rock and jazz that would make any straight ahead jazz player break his/her neck to hear more. Gino and Joe Vanelli, for some reason could never achieve the comercial success that they so very much deserved. Rush, Yes, Toto, Genesis et al, all had more of a run than did these two talented gentleman. Can someone please tell me why??? richgreenchampion@yahoo.com
This was a wonderful time. I believe this is from the Pauper in Paradise tour. I was playing drums in this concert. We were having a wonderful time. Gino was climbing to the top of the charts in many US cities. We rehearsed our butts off and took great pride in being the tightest band in the land. Life was good...passion is what it's all about. We took great pride in what we did as a a group. I hope to pass this on to today's young people. BE PASSIONATE about what you do. Casey Scheuerell
Not to rain on your parade but....Marl Craney was the drummer for he Brother to Brother tour. This video has Chris Rhyne and Bill Meyeres keys, MopDido Morris and John Mandel percussion. I am playing the drums. (Casey Scheuerell) I believe it was filmed at the Auditorium in Chicago....A Pauper in Paradise would be the correct tour Enjoy!
@Funkdrums2 Just getting around to this thread and seeing Casey here is awesome. You are correct Casey, this was shot in Chicago @ the Auditorium Theater on the Pauper In Paradise tour. it is a little known fact that you were also on the Gist the Gemini Tour when Graham Lear left for Santana. Check out my page for some audience recordings of that tour featuring you and everyone else you mentioned in the comment above from the Masonic Temple in Detroit, early '77. I will upload your solo soon!
@Funkdrums2 Wow. It's always good to hear from actual members making great music. Yes I will agree you all were the tightest band in the land. One of the top drummers ever I must say. What a gift. Do you still play? Yea Gino had the voice and the looks but the band was awesome tight! Thanks!
@Funkdrums2 HELLO!!! Without a doubt... 1. Gino Vanelli was/still is the BEST 2. The Gino Vanelli Band was/ still is the very best 3. You are the BEST drummer I ever heard/saw !!! I have seen THE BEST... and nothing compares!!! I can die a happy man now :-D
@Funkdrums2 are you the real casey scheuerell? the one who played drums on pauper in paradise?I recognized you on this DVD? I got it for a birthday gift, 4 years ago.i bought "pauper in paradise when i was 17 years old, i'm 48 now, I still play the drums, and you're still an example for me,never heard any drummer play like you did on this album, so much tight , so much precision, and what a groove on "valley of valhalla"!
many thanks for all your contribution in the art of drumming
@Funkdrums2 Tightest in the land indeed. I was married to a musician from 83 to 89 and the whole band was in love with you guys. They saw you in concert and said it was so electrifying , it would levitate you from your chairs. The drummer was doing a mean imitation cloning Gino. In 88, I think, he left the band and move to CA to try to get a gig with Gino. He had a called back on his answering machine from Gino himself after he'd sent him a demo. His name was Ronny and he had Gino's hairdo.
@Funkdrums2 Ut`s an honour to READ, something written by such a talented person. Maybe because some of us think it`s so difficult to be so perfect at what you musicians do. Congratulations, all of my respect.
@Funkdrums2 Fantastic drums. I've always loved the arrangements of these beautiful, complex songs. When I was a kid, I'd play my kit to this album. It must have been great fun to play these gigs. Compliments to you and a wonderful band.
@Funkdrums2 I saw this tour in Norfolk, VA and you were spot on, You guys had the tightest and most amazing musical performance hands down. All the had work truly paid off and showed in your performance and the response of the crowd (whipped into a frenzy).
As I finished watching this vid, I said out loud at it's completion, "THOSE were the days..those were TRULY the days"....
@Funkdrums2 I saw you three times, all in Kansas City, each time in a bigger venue. I think I must have seen you play. You also had another "precussion guy too, right?' You guys were killing it. You already know that, haha.
@Funkdrums2 You guys had good song, after good song, Pauper in Paradise was sooo good, too. The whole album was epic, as I found all of your albums at that time to be on various levels
@Funkdrums2 Can`t believe i`m writing to such an extraordinary musician. Congratulations. I wish i could turn back time to witness one of those performances.
@Funkdrums2 oh my god.. Really??.. you were drummer on this tour??? my congrats... simply amazing musical arrangements and your drum playing.. I am drummer and always liked this playing,,,Casey.. AMAZING...
LORD. HAVE. MERCY. Gino has been rocking my world since the start of his career when I was in high school. His voice still gives me chills. Yeah, this was the B to B Tour, and this concert was sheer pandemonium--well worth the major sleeping bag time I had to put in to buy tickets. He could sing the phone book and make it sound beautiful and sexy. Thank you for posting!
Someone mentioned Casey being the drummer. All of Gino's musicians were amazing...Casey, too. I saw him at a clinic and he showed us how to double kick a bass with a single pedal. Drummers now use two pedals. Casey only needed one to do the same thing. Of course, this was back when music was music.
This was B to B Tour!! Awesome! The most talented singer, songwriter and conductor of his music on stage and in the studios..Gino Vannelli still brings the house down! I just saw him in Oct. 09..Fabulous!!
When I thnk Gino can't be any better, another video comes out, if only Gino could be captured in a bottle and kept as he was in 78, if only all of us could. Gino you were the sexist, finest, man who ever lived, throw in the voice of a lifetime, and what woman wouldn't swoon and fall in love with you over and over.
Love you till I'm laid to rest, thanks for being the best.
This looks like the concert I was at in Toronto at MLG around 1977 or 1978, part of his Pauper and Paradise tour. He was simply fantastic at this time: lots of great material, playing bigger venues, so much energy throughout the show. I have never seen such a charismatic singer in all my concert-going years. I kept thinking that this guy was some kind of super human throughout the show.
Video does a good job of capturing the spirit of the show. I was there, it was bedlam from the start. What's lost is the incredible quality of the sound, never been to a better engineered concert...studio quality music. I have this VHS and the sound quality is horrific.
gino , yo te escuchaba en las noches tristes de milano cuando regresaba del trabajo , cansado y casi rendido , solo tu musica lograba rescatarme ,,,,gracias gino!!
great boots, great hair,,,stupend fisic, great voice,,,sexy man,, today there is not nothing how him,,,,,,,,,i have a 36 years,,,and is my favority singer,,,,maestro de maestros,,,,,saludos since CHILE...
Gino 's voice is unbelievable..I will be going to see him Oct. 18. There is no one like him. He's been going strong since the 70's and I pray he continues!! BRAVO GINO for making awesome music. ur the whole package!!!
Wooo! Go Gino! Now this is a True artist...he could teach these young artists a thing or two... That arrangement is SICK! Gino's brother Ross is a dear friend that I've sung with and he's ridiculously talented as well.
Wouldn't it be great if men started dressing like that again?! I mean, you never see a guy in thigh-high boots and spandex pants running around with his shirt open anymore.
I was too young to go to any of his concerts in the 70s. But the high (sexual) energy of his concerts was well known. Id never heard of him until I saw a picture of him in 78 at a local record store. You know the one the head shot with the handsome face looking directly at you framed in all those amazing dark curls. I stopped dead in my tracks. I couldnt speak, all I wanted to know was his name and what kind of music he played.
Very pleased indeed. Gino was the soundtrack` for my youth. Great lyrical style--strong arrangements. His music began my interest in jazz also. At the time my friends were into the emerging Hip Hop. I chose Gino's sexy R&B.
I exposed my son and siblings to Gino and Joe's music in the 70's. It was worth every minute camping out for tickets for the B2B concert at Norman, OK Apr 5, 1979. Nothing can compare, go see Gino!!!!!
DAMN, Gino!!!! Are you trying to kill me???? I nearly fainted when I saw this video clip for the first time on YouTube. This guy is extremely HOT!!!!!!
No way Custerflux......I'm no pillow-biter or snoodler but just totally hot and bitchin'...oh, and "exceedingly good looking". I just like to strut my deal.
Yes.........and I incorporate all of Gino's simulated martial arts dance moves in my routine, but I haven't mastered Gino's "dance as if you're fighting off a swarm of angry bees" yet.
Jesus. Gino Vannelli was the epitome of rock god 70's style. He exuded sex. All I know is when Gino hit the stage ladies were in trouble- and probably still are.
@anadthebarbarian : you said it. I've been going to him since the 70's and he's still fabulous in concert. Gorgeous too. I'll be seeing his concert in Oct. In Niagara Falls, NY Bravo Gino :)
Wow, this is the first time I've seen this video, what a man Gino was back in the day, he has matured like fine wine, but nothing or no one compares with the Gino of old, how I miss those days.
Wow, this is the first time I've seen this video, what a man Gino was back in the day, he has matured like fine wine, but nothing or no one compares with the Gino of old, how I miss those days.
Guy is really a terrific singer. Great music - lots of progressive jazz mixed in with the rock, great chords and percussion. Underrated, much more than a pop phenom. Always has very good musicians in his band, too.
I saw him a few years ago in Montreal at the jazz Festival...He look´s and sing as good as you see it on this video...The time pass but... not for Gino...
Oh I didn't notice that Mark craney wasn't the drummer, I do have that dvd. It is wonderful!!
You do know that Mark passed away from kidney failure....a very sad story!!! He was such a fantastic drummer. Enzo Todesco was awesome too. Thanks for sharing your videos of Gino, many people watch and it is bringing back old fans and making new ones for him....
My favorite clip of the Brother to Brother tour!!! Yes he is really Rockin' the ladies!!! I LOVE it!!!! Thanks for sharing, I can't tell you how many times I have watched this!!!! LOL !!
one of favorite song too,but if you watch very carefully you'll see casey shuerell on drums instead of mark craney so this the 1977 pauper in paradise tour ,but from the same dvd of gino "the main event"
Amazing Song.

I kept thinking that this guy was some kind of super human throughout the show.
musiclover59 1 year ago 2
Video does a good job of capturing the spirit of the show. I was there, it was bedlam from the start. What's lost is the incredible quality of the sound, never been to a better engineered concert...studio quality music. I have this VHS and the sound quality is horrific.

Maybe the sexiest singer ever who can really sing!

This looks like the Brother To Brother tour. The drummer was Mark Craney, who was Jethro Tull's drummer.

Actually the drummer was Casey Scheuerell on this tour. Another monster underrated drummer.

Gino 's voice is unbelievable..I will be going to see him Oct. 18. There is no one like him. He's been going strong since the 70's and I pray he continues!! BRAVO GINO for making awesome music. ur the whole package!!!
stormatsunup 2 years ago
The overall body of work Vannelli has produced is of staggering quality and depth. And in 2009 he's still going strong.
Bravo Gino!

Wooo!

I couldnt speak, all I wanted to know was his name and what kind of music he played.
kisslena 2 years ago
and how pleased have you been with his music?
DAVWAVE 2 years ago
Very pleased indeed. Gino was the soundtrack` for my youth. Great lyrical style--strong arrangements. His music began my interest in jazz also. At the time my friends were into the emerging Hip Hop. I chose Gino's sexy R&B.
Thanks for asking.

OMG.. He was In Norman OK in 1979, and I missed it damn!!!! Wish he'd come back I'd be in the front row. He's like a drug, can't get enough.
bestoftimes1976 2 years ago 4
I exposed my son and siblings to Gino and Joe's music in the 70's. It was worth every minute camping out for tickets for the B2B concert at Norman, OK Apr 5, 1979. Nothing can compare, go see Gino!!!!!

Yes.........and I incorporate all of Gino's simulated martial arts dance moves in my routine, but I haven't mastered Gino's "dance as if you're fighting off a swarm of angry bees" yet.

Hey hey hey - don't forget the scorpions, you MUST squish the scorpions!
Those elf boots have a purpose.

Jesus. Gino Vannelli was the epitome of rock god 70's style. He exuded sex. All I know is when Gino hit the stage ladies were in trouble- and probably still are.
What a beautiful man.

Guy is really a terrific singer. Great music - lots of progressive jazz mixed in with the rock, great chords and percussion. Underrated, much more than a pop phenom. Always has very good musicians in his band, too.
