  • all that mania whatever is crap i pull just to see a big oily follicle slide out of my scalp and then to snap down on it with my front teeth im addicted to this shit

  • If anyone has Trichotillomania or other compulsions and wants to be on MTV, check out our channel. We're casting! Thanks.

  • For 4 years i have been putting wigs, scarfs and hats on my head...i've been using stress balls and been growing my nails to help me to stop...so far failure,failure,failure...so then who wants to hear the rest of my story say so or friend me as Kanala Mist for my story and some tips ^^

  • @yazmine4eva I'd love to hear your story. :)

  • Thank you.

  • That tampon ya can't just stop

  • I suffer from Trichotillomania and have study much about it, but the thing is the sensation you get from pulling your hair is a Neural endorphin re-leaser malfunction. were when ever you pull hair it releases endorphins and almost like a drug. so in a sense people with Trichotillomania are hooked on their own body's self manufactured drug.

  • "Stop pulling out your hair" Easier said than done :|

  • i allways pull my hair out and i what to stop doing it ..... if you have any advise please let me know thank you ......

  • i pull my hair out .. and ..i try nt to but .. for 1 year i stopped and all my hir grew back really fine but since january 2011 i have started to pull it out again .. and i am really pulling it out .. and .. it is really really annoying me because i want to know how to stop again ... i mean there is areally big blad patch at the back of my head and it is freaquently gettng bigger as the weeks go by so if you have any iders of how to stop hair pullig please let me not thank you for reading

  • @lennywwe but,, what do you do to cover the bald space ? =\

  • I've since 2009 started having migrain auras. They'd last for two days, and then I'd have about 2 days where I didn't have it, but all meds such as verapamill and lamictal have done is make the symptoms not as bad. I've been pulling at my pubic hair to help with stress. I don't remember when I started. I had to just stop recently. I'm scared. Why do they keep lying down? They've been growing back. Listening to calm music and distracting myself has helped.

  • @swimmolly that's the spirit :/

  • you CAN stop, don't say you can't. I've stopped pulling for about three days - which is really good for me. I do expect I will start again soon, when I'm less occupied but that's not the point. The point is that you are in control of your own habits and you CAN train yourself to stop this habit. It's tough yes, very. But please don't buy into any of this commercial crap. And don't listen to doctors who really don't know what they're talking about :)

  • Please listen all trichitillomania sufferers!!! I have found a way to control my urges, I have been pulling my eyelashes and eyebrows for 10 years, now like most of you, I guess, it is down to stress! I have found that a course of acupuncture really helped, I went to a chines medicine shop I have regular acupuncture , maybe once a week for 6 weeks, and a course of de-stressing tablets that I took everyday for the entire course that she recommended, I can honestly say it changed my life, instead

  • I recently found out I have this. I always thought I was just a freak because I liked pulling my hair out. It really helps to know that I'm not alone and there is a name for it. But it's also a little upsetting to find out I have another disorder. :/ I already have depression, bipolar disorder, TWO skin conditions, OCD, and I'm very stressed out. Also, I think I may have ADD. I just try to remember I'm beautiful no matter what.. and if I have no control over this, I shouldn't hate myself for it.

  • @gmddlb same here. i knew ive had this condition for years now, but ive had it long before i knew it wasn't just in my head. im glad that there are people that have this condition, and i hope to find another person in person that has the same condition.

  • @zatnicatienth You just found one. I'm really relieved that I'm not alone!:)

  • I hate when people just tell you to stop and it's like I CAN'T JUST STOP PEOPLE its brain chemistry or genetics and takes some cognitive behavioral therapy or meds. Seriously people need to understand we can't just STOP doing this. It's not done purposely :/ ( that was my daily rant haha)

  • i been pulling my hair since i was 12 im now almost 16 i went 4 months without pulling i took vitiams pills but now i started pulling again just when i had all my hair back almost....i have bald spots on top of my head it hurts me that i have to wear a hat or a hoodie to cover it i hate this sometimes i just wanna shave it all off but i cant cause i dont wanna lose the i hair i got now

  • i pull my hair out in knots it started when i was 13 from having an over night EEG test my hair was knotted from it and i had to pull it out. I'll be 29 in 3 weeks and i still do it i hate it, it hurts my hands my head and i keep cutting my hair to make it look like the same length i hate it i try sittling on my hands, writing, crocheting anything for me to stop.

  • @crazy4GMH I do the exact same thing but dude you must do it ALOT! Try this I just thought of it while im here sitting at my computer wanting to twirl/pull my hair, justrub ur hands over ur head when u get the impulse cuz u won't lose ur hair and it's better than pulling :D And yeah don't freak out over it cuz I honestly don't know why it isn't as bad as biting ur nails!

  • @GroundPhobia thanks alot for the tip

  • @crazy4GMH no problem ;)

  • @crazy4GMH I had to laugh at your comment because I share everything you do. I also started when I was 13 or 14. I'm almost 40 now and I still do it. Actually I shaved my hair off and it grew thin. I've not pulled the last eight month. I started around two weeks ago and nothing seems to stop me. You know it took me 8 months to grow, now it is sad to lose so much hair in a split second.

  • I'm now 14 years old and ive been pulling since I was 4. I'm now recovering and I found a doctor from the university of Michigan that recommended a vitamin that heroine addicts took. This vitamin is called anatyl- cystine and it's suppost to help your brain transmitters In your head to Weaken your urge to pull. I found that this does work, it's no cure to make you completely stop, but at least I'm not suffering like I use to, you can buy this vitamin at any store like meijer or any vitamin stor

  • Im 19 and have pulled my hair out since 14. I have no bald patches yet but have no idea im doing it until i have a hair in my hand. its so depressing because i dont want to tell anyone. my mum has seen me do it before but i think she thought it was a phase and im too afraid to see a GP incase thats the wrong person.

i think its caused by stress/anxiety and now i cant stop worrying about this so its not helpful.

Atleast I have good physical health and can hopefully overcome this :/

  • @xxkirstincxx i do it too, and i think it has everything to do with anxiety because i have anxiety too and i think like everyone who does it compulsivly has anxiety. But you can still make urself stop! Dont freak out over it if you dont think you can stop just try to do it less so u dont lose alot of ur hair. This isnt a serious thing dont let it define you ;)

  • It was the hardest thing I have ever done but I got over it. I still have the urge off and on when I am under a lot of stress, but I take control. I no longer allow myself to pull my eyelashes out. The first step for me, was to realize the problem and a lot of will power. I am now 23 and love my mascara. I believe that when the human mind truly wants something, we can over come it. Believe in yourself. :)

  • @kizzinkooler Agreed completly started with the eyelashes but eventually started pulling the hair on my head. Imma force myself to stop tho any1 can u just need the willpower!

  • I had started to pull my eye lashes out from the age of 10 till I was 16. It made me feel horrible and people would often ask me why I did not have any eyelashes and I would respond with, "I was born this way." It was only when I turned 16 that I got so sick of pulling my eyelashes out that I researched my problem. I realized that I had a problem and admitted to my close friends that I had a problem. It took me about 4 months but I trained myself to stop.

  • wear a hat people

  • I pull my eyelashes out :( I just can't stop it :( I'm only 11 and this has been going on for 5 years now :( I really need some help :( any advise? :(

  • @jovicatmad Read the responces I gave to others! :D

  • just give us your credit info and your cured

  • I have not seen a Doc. and im scared to tell my parents please help me i want to stop this i want to have my hair normal again..i do not know if i have this but if you think i do please tell me and if you think i should see a Doc. and tell my parents PLEASE TELL

  • @xXKillerCareBearx Hi killercarebear.. Ive had TTM for about 3 or 5 years now, and its killing me personally. I went about 3 months without pulling, but then it started back again. Im 13 now, and started pulling in the 3rd grade. I told my parents immediately when this started to happen. Its now spread to multiple parts of my head, and bald spots form, but there is medicine. Zoloft is a presciption you get when diagnosed with TTM. Its a medicine that forces you to stop pulling your hair.

  • @foster88888 Well, I don't have any bald spots its not that bad but i do pull ..its not constant but i would like it to stop :L

    I dunno if i should see a doc though..But then again i think i should :/

Just confused at the moment and scared if this grows into a bigger problem.

Use it every day . When you start to pull your hair say like this, send Your Word and heal me O God and delivered me from destructions Psalm107-20. i wish you well and happy new year

  • omg i never knew this hair pulling that i do every day could be a common thing from others....

  • @patshia1 i no me to and then me and my mom did some reserch and i found out the same thing. goog luck on stopping!

  • i am not really bad at it i started about well 2 weeks ago i get really stressed very easily. I flat iron and curl my hair so some of my hair gets burnt so i'll be on the computer or in class or just alone and i'll pullout my burnt hair! but its not all my hair and i have VERY thick hair so its not noticeable and i pull out like 3 a day but i am going to try and stop this habit. So thank you for helping me get there.:]

  • @SUPERxoxCUPCAKE Stop before you can't control it, I have it for 10 years and I'm trying to stop but sometimes I can't !! I'm still trying and now I will try my best, that's why I'm looking for videos !!

  • i had this, i just cut my hair short :)

    but i m a guy. soooo... oo..

  • Never listen to advice from people who dont have trich. They dont know how it feels to have it and their 'advice' wont work. However, if you listen to some one who has it but is overcoming it in time, you may get good results. =]

  • This idea may seem harsh, but it just may work! It worked for my cousin who suffered from this. Shave aaaaaaall of the hair from where you pull. Soon, since you cant pull out anything, you should have no choice but to over come it since you haven't done it in a while. I know it sounds harsh, but try it. You never no....

  • @LaLa2gud4u it doesn't work. I hope people don't follow your advice because it will not work and now they have no hair at all, because they were trying to stop themselves from being bald. If you don't suffer from this, please stop trying to "offer" your well meaning advice. No offense.

  • @kilokipo Um geez, i had this before. 5 years if you want to be exact. And i tried this and i dont mean to brag but now i have my beautiful hair back. I didnt say it would work, i said "try it you never know" meaning it could work. And if people really want their hair, they shouldnt care that they'll be bald for a while, because in the end your hair may be longer. So i will continue to "offer" my adivce. No offense.

  • I never knew this was a known disease/disorder. Ive had this problem for about 2 years now and im starting to lose hair thickness because of it. I wish i could just up and stop but half the time i dont even realize im doing it until ive already pulled a bunch out. I pull everywher from my facial hair, the top of my head, even pubic hairs. I hate having this condition and really wish i could get help for it. The last thing i need is to be bald by the time im 25.

  • i need help

iv been puling my hair 4 a year now and i realy want 2 stop im 14 now i sarted wen i was 13. Can you pease help me?

  • i think i have this one..i always touches every strand of my hair going down and when i feel a thick hair or rough hair i pull it off

  • maybe this is why

i used to pick my eyelashes out but that was coz there waas crusty shit on them

and i been pulling my hair out since like 8 or something its fuckin bs!!!!!!!

  • "Perverse/naughty sensation?" seriously? It is generally a pleasurable experience, but I think that part really could have been left out. It's a neurological disorder, and there's enough of a stigma. Anyhow, I've considered hypnosis. How successful is it? I'm curious.

  • I don't think this condition is a habit, its something neurological and i don't think you can just tell a person to stop, it's not that simple. Ive lived with this for years and I now know my trigger (stress and high anxiety) and as uncontrolable as they are, i have to live with it and try to make my life as unstressful as possible. Yoga and pilates helps, as well as meditation and a healthy diet, for me at least.

  • same here i have it....

  • I started pulling my hair out in October 2008. I was 31 years old when it started. I have had a brain condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation that I had surgery on in October 2007. One year to the month after surgery I started pulling my hair. I know that most people start at a young age, I how ever did not. So I am wondering is this is not a sever stress induced syndrome? I have many question and I am wondering if people coudl help me understand.

  • I am also an eyelash and eyebrow puller - started in 5th/6th grade. I've stopped punishing myself for plucking. I have had periods of 1 month to 4 months of no plucking.

I know I created this problem and that the cure is within me.

It's at its worst when I'm overtired AND in front of the computer or watching TV or reading. Of course, anxiety is a trigger.

It's become much more compulsive since being a stay-at-home mom, which I've been for over 15 years now.

I have a blog about it as well.

  • @Estiallina I'd love to see your blog... I didn't realize that this wasn't just a habit until recently when I started becoming proud of myself when I found especially coarse hairs and trying to control myself when I was sitting in a lecture hall that wasn't carpeted because it was more noticeable on tile than on carpet... could you send me the link? Thank you.

  • me too....i have it no eyebrows or eyelashes on the outside of me it seems uncontrollable but deep deep deep deep deep down i think i can.........maybe................ screw this disorder of which has effected me since i was 3......i am now 14 with no eyelashes or eyebrows....................

  • i have this. ive had it for many many years. i wish i could tell everyone a cure but im afraid there is not one. you have to learn to accept it an count your blessings for what you DO have.. know that some people have it worse and just hope for the best! they now know there is a gene linked to trich, maybe they will find a cure too. but stay strong and know when no one else is there, God is. and he wants to listen!

  • Thanks for your comment. I absolutely agrree with you about the importance of counting your blessings and being grateful and I am sorry that you personally have not found a way to overcome trichotillomania yet. In my (Steve Tromans) experience it IS possible to cure trich, I have done so many times over the last 13 years ,even with chronic cases. My experience leads me to believe that there is pretty much nothing about people's bahviour that is cast in stone. Best Wishes.

  • God bless you, i have it too..... you shall never be alone

  • @ayerenzer ok i think this is actually fucking hilarious. I pull my hair all the time but it's just a bad habit I've had for a long time, so one day im watching a show and it mentions this and im like hey i do that too! So i look it up and it's like a disease? LOL don't freak over a habit damn... scientists can make the most retarted accusations and try to make everything different is a "problem" if you truly want to stop make urself! Don't shit urself thinking its some uncontrollable impulse

  • Whats OCD?

  • It stands for: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and refers to behaviors that a person feels compels to engage in, repeatedly. That's not a scientific definition, just my simplified one.

  • I have been pulling my eyelashes, eyebrows and hair out since grade 6. I am now 34!!!

  • yeah i used to get bald spots on my head and now i find myself pulling beard hair out and actually feeling around my face for rogue hairs. it is actually OCD caused and most of the time it can only be cured with medication. I am on a clonidine patch because of the nervous ticks and i have noticed that alot of my OCD tendencies have melted away including hair pulling.

  • Please help me ive been pulling for almost a year... and i cant stop. ive been to the doctors but nothing helped. Please someone tell me how to stop this. i really need to stop.

  • you need to ask your doctors about this being caused by OCD. I am on a clonidine patch and it has helped me ALOT. the only side effect is that sometimes when the patch wears off I don't notice it and I get a little jittery. but when i replace the patch i seem fine. most of the time compulsive hair pulling is caused by OCD, therefore most of the time medication is the best way to treat it.

  • try taking up a hobby that requires usage of your hands, when you're are going to pluck the hair say no and slap your hand so you realize what you're doing. When you e.g. watch TV, stay relaxed, don't allow arm movement.

  • i pull out hair on the top of my head nearly all the time im by myself, ive been doing it for about 3-4 years now.

it feels that my hair is scratching into my head, and that it needs to be pulled out. like a splinter. and when i pull it out, it really hurts. but its like a really enjoyable pain. strange huh?

ive been to the doctors a few times, but all theyve done is feel the top of my head and tell me to try and stop doing it. how useless!

  • @terminalninja Thats exactly how I feel! I pull out my eyelashes and even if it hurts I still get this rush of sensation for doing it...of course after I feel terrible.

  • @cloudgirl150 Exactly the same with me, and my eyebrows, ugh

  • @terminalninja yeah i do that too...before it was the hair at my temples but now it's right at the top of my head. It feels good to pull it out, but then I feel guilty and the stress from that guilt causes me to pull out even more. It's frustrating! Thank goodness for wigs!

  • i am a eye lash puller and a hair puller I dont do it often as I did when i was a child now its like all of a sudden i might get an urge but when i was a child It was actually so bad I had bald spots

  • when i do it i dont realize it. my mom will say "hey! hands off your head" then i'll realize i was pulling. it feels like i have to though (pull)

  • my daughter rubs and rubs her eyebrow till they fall out and she gets scars over her brow....is this the same..?

please help she is only four and has no brows left.

    her doctors will not help.

  • I am sorry to hear this and I am not sure this is the same though it sounds like it may be related. I wish there was something useful I could tell you (I have a young daughter of my own) but for someone as young as her the NLP style approach may not work yet.

  • @bitchyMcbyotch I do not think its the same. you should see an expert who deal's with this.

  • @bitchyMcbyotch it sounds very similar. since she's rubbing with her fingers, it might be a good idea to watch it. since she's young, she might not have figured out how to pull the individual hairs, or she could just like the texture of her eyebrows and it's gotten out of control. i don't know, i'm not a therapist. but since she's still young, it'd be a good idea to intervene now before it becomes a set in stone habit. my suggestion is to seek therapy. compulsive habits are psychiatric thing.

  • im a eyebrwos puller. And have gone 3 weeks w/out pulling yeahh! i've joined youtube so i can reach out to ppl with the same problem becasue i dont know any1 who has my problem.

    Thx , pls comment lizzy

  • oneina

My 10 year old son has terrible trich.

    HOW DID YOU DO IT?!!!!!

  • yeah i have the eyebrow problem aswell

  • Pulling out of eyebrow hair, or eyelashes, is much more common than many people would think. This version of trichotillomania tends to respond well to a combination of NLP and hypnotherapy. Find someone local to you and give it a go. Best Wishes.

  • i pull my hair out.. and it's like.. sub-conscious. my hair is so thin in some spots, you can see my scalp. help..

  • Hi

The best advice I can give you is to go and see a well established and experienced hypnotherapist and.or NLP practitioner. Find someone local to you who has experience with trichotillomania. Trich is a 'subconscious' habit, as you rightly say, and hypnosis can be really effective in dealing with these sorts of habits. Best of luck!
