  • Yep this is great!

  • THE FIRST TIME I heard this I went -INTO THE MYSTIC... and still-do...

  • This song was played at JFK Jr.'s funeral......I'm sorry, but it fits all too well....

  • sublime arrangement - right to the heart

  • From some quick on line research, I think this performance is from a 1974 German TV program, Musik Laden. His fellow musicians: Jerome Rimson – bass, Pete Winfield – keyboards, and Peter van Hooke – drums.

  • Greatest Version!!! Ever!

  • don't get any better

  • i can smell my fog horn and its not great but i will always love van.

  • Van was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 19 years ago today. What a hauntingly beautiful song.

  • Never realized it before now but Van kinda negates the reason for Ryan Adams to be on earth. The moves, the technique, the attitude...Ry copped it all.

  • 300+ songs, scary talent, maybe he is a dick, he might be hard to deal with, but people that are great often are. This guy really knows how to write and sing a song that soothes the soul, he's a special contribution to music.

  • Heard this song and loved Van's song's his sound I was hooked.

  • NO NO NO I REALLY REALLY LOVE YOUTUBE.....that was simply beautiful

  • Ahhhh good sounds

  • Van Murrison was always great with the stops and grabs that made many of his songs dramatic and exciting. Great drummer, notice how he never takes his eyes off Van.

  • @tygavin04 I'm so glad you noticed the drummer...you can see the complete admiration he has for Van at the moment; especially right after the interlude, his face gestures with what seems like both relief and a sense of awe. Yes, Van is difficult to deal with at times, but these difficulties stem from his intense sensitivities and willingness to be vulnerable. Van Morrison oozes honesty.

  • I LOVE YOUTUBE!

  • One of my favorite Van Morrison songs. He is just one of the best singers I think. Love him.

  • is he the coolest bass player your ever seen in your life..

  • RIP George Ivan Morrison III AKA Little Van May Musica ease your pain xo

The child fathered by Irish rock star Van Morrison with his late American lover has died aged just 13 months. The musician had the boy with American Gigi Lee. Last week it was revealed that Ms Lee had died of cancer in October, aged 44. Now it has been disclosed that George – known as ‘Little Van’ – died 11 months ago.

  • @penguinmama88

    Damn; that's heartbreaking.

  • The very best

  • Van always does his songs a little different each time he does them, mark of a true blues and jazz man, improvisation is the key.....

  • Who wouldnt want to go into the mystic after hearing this? What a powerful love song.

  • van the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah this is the best version ive heard........ if you dont at least apreciate this song you dont understand music and definatley do not play music

  • @PCCAMINITI feel sorry for those who don't!!!!

  • Whooooooo what a tune Van The Great,

  • HOW DO I SAY THIS. IT'S OF THE GREATEST HONOR TO BE BORN IN THE SAME LIFE TIME AS THIS MAN. HE WAS INFLUENCED BY THE LEGENDARY ARTIST OF ALL TIME. HE LISTENED TO THEM AND FUSED THEM INTO HIS OWN. HE MAY WELL BE THE GREATEST SINGER AND ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME. THIS IS A MIGHTY AND HOLY VIDEO. I DONT KNOW HOW ANYONE CAN SING BETTER THAN AND CREATE MORE EXCITEMENT THAN THIS.

SACRED AND BEATIFUL AND RAW AND UNTAMED AND ......

  • @ELVIS4221 How do you REALLY feel?

  • AWESOME!

  • Good version. And the man knows how to pick a band. The bassplayer is from another universe.

  • Always puts me in a better place. Van is the man!

  • I accidently hit the dislike button 19 times.

  • Van Morrison's music is such a turn on! I love this song!

  • WOW !!!

  • great groove

  • Just amazing ! Great "moondance" recording done in an 'astral weeks" style. the interplay of Van on guitar with the piano / sysnthesizer is so understated...yet so beautiful.

  • When you fire up the ship for my Viking funeral ~ please play this song for me as I head out to sea for the last time...

    TURN IT UP!

  • Vans voice fills my heart . Please come rock my gypsy soul. When my heart hurts that voice eases that pain . What a gift he has wish to met him one day . Id die a happy women to hear him in concert just once.

  • @SMGLV I'm with you I always turn to his music when I need soothing, he music takes me beyond and out of myself, it seems to come with a guarantee! I have been lucky to see him twice once at Glastonbury in hot blazing sunshine (I hid under a shawl to stop getting burnt with tears running down my face - I was ectastic) and again at Guildford where he did not want to be which was a shame - so I have seen him at his very best and worst! I'd go again though!!

  • Dear Van, the man, I was told that you were greatful for my composition of Into The Mystic, while I worked at Bloomingdales. • Please Van rock my gypsy soul. With that voice and those lips Van.perfect and very cute.

  • what kind of guitar is van playing here?

  • @roaringwaterbay -it's called an Ovation

  • Hey Irish Girl - Great to hear from you! 20 years - very cool!!

My kids, ages 7 & 5, also love Van. We are always listening to something (Van, Marley, Trey, Aretha) and dancing around at our house. We have "dance-offs" on Saturday mornings while I make pancakes.

My aunt first turned me on to Van Morrison when I was about 15, in the early 80s. His music has been part of my life since then and has seen me through some tough times.

All my best Irish Girl - you have great taste!!

  • Same bass player and keyboardist as Live at Montreaux Jazz Festival 1974 - check it out! In that video, Dallas Taylor (from Crosby, Stills, N&Y) drums and watching him reminds me of watching my husband drum - pure magic! Also, I have to say the clothes they have on in that video are super 70s stylin' (the bass player's jeans and the keyboardist's polyester shirt - sweet!)

  • My husband and I's danced to this song (our first dance as man and wife) at our wedding reception. We just celebrated 10 years. Van's voice moves me like no other. One of my favorite X-mas presents from my husband was Van Morrison Live at the Montreaux Jazz Festival - 2 CD set - 1974 and 1980. Check it out! 1974 is SO groovy and 1980 rocks as well. Sweet Van!

  • @Denienful Me too, 20 for us. i love him so much!

  • Brilliant! Thanks for posting.

  • EXCELLENT Thank you for posting.

  • * * * * *

  • Oh yeah

  • I adore Van Morison - he has never written a bad song. Every song either bears a memory or creates one!!!! I used to hold my now 18-year-old daughter in my arms when she was a newborn and sway back and forth with this song playing

  • @jmc19661 lots of us feel this way about Van's music - I have lots of his albums but still loads to get and I come on here and listen to tracks of his for the first time ever and it never fails me, - if I need some music to feed my soul and free my mind Van hits the spot every time - If I get stranded on that dessert island I'm taking the complete works ........

  • @jmc19661 I love this song as well and hold my children and sway them to this song too.

  • @jmc19661 you r so right

  • I've played this video at least 20 times in the last 3 days

  • Let your body go! Ooooh let your mind roll on. Can I get an IV so I can just pump this straight into my veins. They just don't seem to make music like this any more.

  • Excellent!

  • Love this soulful take on my favorite VM tune. Hard to find a version I don't like...

  • THe bass player is fucking great!!!! hilarious

  • @Dylansold456 / he sure is/ one of thebest/ Jerome Rimson

  • I want my gypsy soul rocked

  • At certain times he looks just like the actor William Hurt. Odd.

  • @terrydavenporter more like Dennis Quaid....

  • possibly my fav van number ie,the original version, but this is absolutely magic hard to beat this version, only van change his arrangements and loose nothing from the original versions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • it's dark and hell is hot. van's light shines through. as U2 said, "I will follow."

  • when he did the song tb sheets he was in the room with the person how many make believe sing can close to him

  • I found a good one here.

  • Went to see Van in BIrmingham last night he was brilliant , in a faultless performance by Van and band we heard songs such as FairPlay , Ballerina , All in the game , and Magic time in which van play an amazing Sax solo , he also showed us what can do with a Guitar and Harmonica .. Stunning stuff. To watch a man who turned 66 a few days ago do all this for almost 2 hours straight through hardly pausing for breath between songs is amazing , we paid £100 for our seats 9 rows from stage was worth

  • @nedgofs Great to hear. Hoping for some US gigs. The set list shows he did Unchained Melody -- a new one in the repertoire as far as I know.

  • I am listening to this for about the 10,000th time!

  • cosmic man

  • Yeah i know this song since i was 16.. Now at 44 still Same feeling of universal thinking.. Please look also for someone like you from this great VM!

  • and they did it all without a Mac

  • this is the good shit

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY VAN THE MAN...

  • I like it!

    But?

why do people make a huge thing out of the dislike bar? musical tastes differ. plus they have the right to tell their opinions to us.

    so please stop it...

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY VAN MORRISON

  • I bet one of the dislikes is mister Gaddafi, his last visit on the net to loathe the wrong approach of imperialism..

  • This is just amazing, breathtaking even! Thanks you I'm so glad I've found it.

  • Superb. I have been listening in amazement at his music since 1971.

  • I`ve watched this like 20 times in the last couple of days. A great performance of a great song.

  • @scottysoxfan I wrote almost the same thing last night and then saw your post just now...watching again

  • @scottysoxfan this certainly ,

is a way of showing the "now generation" just how much integrity went into a song...

  • How can you not like this its great to Van in such a smaller group then he had in the day

  • Damn, that was good.

  • I want my gypsy soul rocked !!!! And when that fog horn blows I will be comin' home. Long Live Van !!!!!!!!

  • What a great Irishman

  • Van the Man. This is what I want on my gravestone. "Into the Mystic..."

  • one of the best rockers!!

  • mr vaaaan morrrrrrrison

  • Always my favorite song in the whole world, great performance here. Van is THE man! Thanks for putting this video up!

  • I think the drummer is Pete van Hooke who was with van at this time. Is it not a simply outstanding example of musicians who just come together as one. He may not have a great reputation for conversing with his audience but imo he is simply the best songwriter/musician the UK has ever PRODUCED.

  • @stanton1062 yes its pete van hooke,what a band!

  • anyone know who the drummer in this is? he is excellent

  • My Favorite Eccentric Irish Man! LOVE U Van!! Nice that we can watch his vids now, I know they have been taken off in the past, So... Enjoy while we can!

  • There's no musician that I admire more than Van Morrison.

  • man dat whigger cain sing

  • UPDATE: Apparently, there are 12 people who do not want their gypsy souls rocked. An investigation has been launched, deportation is likely.

  • @emfoster71 ROFL - Great reply to the nay sayers with bad taste! You made me laugh bigtime Em! Thanks! :D

  • @emfoster71 love this comment!!!!!!!

  • Respond to this video... PS, what year was this. van sunds like he is in top form here

  • @emfoster71 back to europe for them! haha

  • @emfoster71 They probably sold them, which I believe is a deportable crime.

  • @emfoster71 We don't deport anybody..... do we?

  • @jazzredneck For bad taste, or rather lack of good taste and cultural awareness? Well, we should deport for such offenses, or at least round them up in music re-education centers.

  • @emfoster71 Obviously, you dont know what good taste is... Van the Man has written more #1 songs than anyone I've ever known... not to mention his fabulous voice! The best!!!

  • @jazzredneck Don't you get humor?

  • bahaha black guy on the bass

  • @Pyrofreak321 thats Jerome Rimson ,totally amazing bass player who played with almost evryone in the business.

  • Great glimpse of Vans huge talent, back in the day. The legend is still goin' strong.

Long live "Van the Man". The band is great also, Van always keeps company with the very best musicians, but is never in awe of anyone. Cool as a cucumber, as we say in Belfast.

  • this is real music x

  • God lends us great musicians to listen, and learn from. Its whether we have the musical inclination to identify greatness when we are blessed to hear them.

I Adore Your Work.....much love from Aotearoa New Zealand Van.
