001001sith is right, direct logic is the cheapest, only drawback is one time cost of the software, just under $400, i replaced a $8000 GE system with direct logic for under $1000 including rewire and reprogram.
The GE FANUC PLC is the easiest to learn and to use. Allen Bradley may be the biggest but they are the most expensive to communicate with and the most complex programming software.
If you're going to get into PLC programming, stay away from Keyence - they are not know for their PLC's. Instead, consider Allen Bradley, Omron or Koyo as commonly used brands.
Great explanation, fast, detailed and gets to the point. Wish more youtubers were like this.

They look like capacitive sensors, and he also put some kind of float to increase the sensitibity.
