This is the commercial that made me want one when I was 10 and I never wanted a doll or toy more. She came for Christmas but was left behind when we moved. I never forgot her and was thrilled when I found them.

The Kenners would cost $100 today - I remember mine was either $7 or $8.99. I do object to them being any more than that and HATE that production isn't determined by consumer sales/demand. Instead the company manipulates the consumer by limiting production and manipulating the consumer

They should make as many as will sell and retailers should compete to sell them by lowering prices. There is no reason one should cost overit $100. @anarachiongbian no, you only customize them if you want to. The ones that have no custom work done to them are referred to as "stock". I have 3 stock ones and 7 custom. At blythdoll(dot)com look for the section "What is blythe"

they redid these dolls under the name Little big eyes for a while back in the late 90's and early 2000's, but they were pulled for copyright violation. Now it's hard to find either version of this doll for under 3oo bucks. I know because my niece has been asking for one since she came across the Little big eyes that her older sister had years before.

I don't think the Blythe dolls are scary at all, simply cute/beautiful. I think part of the problem for their dismal sales in 1972 was that these lovely gals were simply too ahead of their times. Even more than 30 years later some think they're odd.

I got the blonde one in the 70s from my older sister as a Halloween present. (I got gifts 'cos I couldn't go Trick or Treating) I found a repro in the Betty's Attic catalog about 5 years ago for $99. (and it has nicer hair!) Just looking at her makes me glad I was a child of the 70s.
