I bought mine for good gas mjileage. Modifying the intake or exhaust will cause lower MPG in that the EFI will adjust more gas with the bigger air flow. And I actually like the smooth quite sound it has stock.
Can you put the baffles back in or are they ruined when you removed them?
I think with today's gas prices, pretty much anyone is grabbing a bike for the nice MPG. I should check my current MPG on my next road trip and see if in fact I put a dent in it. I sure the difference wont be that big.
As for the baffles going back in once removed, not so much. It's a one way shot.
Mine dropped 3-4mpg after drilling the backplate. I think the main reason being is that I play with the throttle more since improving the sound. I doubt the air/fuel mix was changed that much if at all since there is no more air coming into the engine
I've got a '07 C50 Limited Edition just like yours (love it) and am considering doing this. I love the way the factory pipes look and don't want to replace them, but they're just nowhere near loud enough.
My question is, since its so hard to capture the true sound on a YT video, does this REALLY sound *loud* -- like a set of cobras or vance & hines? Or did it pretty much just give it a deeper tone, and not much volume? Thanks!
I agreed with you 100% on both counts. Look great but not loud enough. There is a considerable volume difference (mostly noticed when you lay into the thottle) but the majority of change is in the tone.
hello! found your video again and remembered i'd commented on it before... just thought i'd say i finally gave in and put a set of cobra streetrod slashdowns on my bike as i just couldnt bring myself to cut into the stock pipes.
i've added the streetrods, a K&N air filter, and a cobra Fi2000R. in addition to the awesome MONSTER sound it now has, i got a great boost in performance.
awesome, well shortly after i posted that comment i'd decided that i was going to replace the pipes. i put a set of cobra streetrod slashdowns on the bike, and they sound fantastic. see my video of the before/after. :) ride safe
Hey....hi...sounds much improved. How is the bike running? Any difference in performance. I was told to expect hesitation and some backfire because the pipe is not tuned to the baffle-less flow.
Hey...Ive notice zero change in performance. As for backfire, there is a small amount on hard decels/down shifts but its not a loud banging but more of a minor popping. Personally I think it sounds rather cool.
Did you remove the baffles altogether or just what they call the exhaust plate? I am still trying to figure out what the exhaust plate is. Did you have to do anything with the fuel injection to compensate for the mod?
i think i got it, its 50bhp right?

50 cubic inch engine displacement. equivalent to 805cc.

i am curious, is it a 50cc, or c50 is just the name? case ive never seen a 50 sound like that, mine looks a little baby crying.

I did this to mine, no fuel economy change... And no, once you drill them out and break the welds they are out for good.
Search 4everunner and you'll find my video on this as well.

This would be considered a baffle removal. You can go even deeper and remove more but I opted out of it. Sounded fine to me at this point.
No I didn't have to alter my fuel inj timing. From what I understand, it wouldn't be required until I also installed a new air intake system.

I like the sound, How do you remove the baffles?

I followed the directions at this website. His video is spot on and easy to follow.
With the right tools and a GOOD drill, it can be done in a 1/2 hour.
