  • good video but the piano man and "birthday boy" Jools is not even in this shoot? so the piano man cant find another nail for my heart!

  • Squeeze are finally mature and back together, It's a shame that they were such drunks when they were younger. They have the distinction as a band of having drank more alcohol before a concert than any other band in music history. Summat like 3 dozen beer between them, and over a 40 ounce bottle of hard stuff each. When they played in 1982-83 in Vancouver, they were so hammered that they almost could not play. Wonderful band when they were not shiat-faced

  • always been a Squeeze fan, went to see the guys at the manchester apollo years back, but how is it they have had so many line-up changes down the years, anyone?

  • Glen: A brilliant guitarist - The lead break on this song has an almost Stax/Steve Cropper feel to it with more embellishment. I don't know much about guitar chord progressions but I know top notch musicianship when I hear and GT has it.

  • didnt realise how complex the solo was until i saw this!

  • good stuff..

  • The solo is so good it makes me weep.

  • @ega95jch Absolutely spot on, mate. He is one of the best guitarists around, great songwriter, singer, lead/rhythm guitar. Truly amazing. The solo alone should win a Grammy/Bafta/Oscar every award going! Glenn, you are sooooooooo great!!

  • Bloody Fantastic !!!.

    Wild guitar solos,

Tilbrooks cutting edge vocals and Brilliant lyrics.

Great music lasts forever..Thank you Squeeze !

  • Dearest Youtube. I'm afraid there is an error with this video. There is a dislike button. And 5 poor souls were dumb enough to hit it. Could you please remedy this situation quickly? Thank you. A Squeeze fan for life.

  • This song is just the best thing Sqeeze ever did - brilliant.

  • a phenominal band,in the vein of the Jam,Ramones,Undertones for the short blast feel good sounds that endure forever. This is when pop was fun

  • saw them this july rochester castle gardens concert, still as fantastic as ever!

  • who voted against this? Awesome song. Great album too, Argybargy

  • The real title of this song is "Another Nail For My Heart" and listen; they sing 'for' not 'in'. It's still a bloody fantastic song even after 31 years :)

  • What a fantastic piece of pop music.

  • I remember being at an open mic night in New Cross in the early 90's and Chris Difford pitching up and playing this and a few other Squeeze songs on his own (after a good bit of coersion!)! The small crowd didn't want to let him go! What a star... :-)

  • One of Squeeze's best .It contains a really tasty guitar solo !

  • the guitar solo is effin' amazing... should be in a lot of "top 10's" but never is :s

  • Glenn's solos are always perfect for the song. beautifully constructed, no noodling..genius. His "Is that love" solo is up there with the best of any genre.

  • classic!

  • I hate the way these dj's end the songs, it's sacralidge.

  • This is virtuoso playing

  • fiar play to all comments

  • Okay, I will now admit it. I am old.

  • Tillbrook & Difford absolute genius . . . Argy Bargy Masterpiece

  • 24 years later, she and I still dance to their music

  • Kinksboss -- he's the only other contender for the crown, yes. I thought of putting that very qualifier in my comment -- I'm a complete kinks fan, completely agree he's utterly under-rated, never even had a Rolling Stone covber to himself. But I but decided against it, since I was dealing in songwriting pairs, and these two are . . .well, what i said before. Cheers

  • Can a band be too intelligent? Too singular? Squeeze seems to qualify on both counts. Unmatched lyrical brilliance -- no pair of songwriters -- has ever told stories about ordinary folk with such insight and lyrical precision.

  • @jeremiah098 exept perhaps Ray Davies

  • These were a classy band. Great Stuff.

  • Love the keyboards from those days, they're very evocative of the times. Nothing like keyboards to bring back forgotten feelings.

  • I remember seeing them in their third incarnation at the WHFS Acoustic Christmas Concert in Washington, D.C., which also featured Tony Bennett. But Squeeze topped the bill, and they were awesome! The harmonizing vocals of Chris and Glenn on "Another Nail" and "Pulling Mussels" were especially memorable

  • Great band great music it was the back drop t my High School days

  • you cut off the piano ending.

  • @kidwayne100 i didnt it was broadcast cut ,with a dj talking through the end

  • "I want to be good, is that not enough?" Perfection.

I feel 16 years old every time I hear this band. I love Squeeze !

  • @TurnItBlueToYou1 yeah me too... nice one !!

  • Saw them this summer at an outdoor concert in the U.S. They were absolutely amazing! One of the best shows I have ever seen!

  • Saw them this summer at an outdoor concert in the U.S. They were absolutely amazing! One of the best shows I have ever seen!

  • BEST BASS EVER

  • hard to believe its 30 yrs old

  • falklands fav song when we were there

  • @c130mover Is right mate! I was there with 5Reg RA. This was one I could just about hear after a shoot!

  • Glenn Tillbrook and Chris Difford are BOTH national treasures. As are Jools Holland and ALL of the boys at the time.

  • I went to see these guys live in Liverpool last night and they were sheer class.

If you closed your eyes you thought you were back in about 1980. They sound just as good now as they did 30 years ago, if not better.

  • @76juno missed out on tickets for the liverpool concert anyone know when squeeze are back on tour..

  • 30 years ago....and still sounding totally awesome. Plus I REMEMBER them on TOTP!

  • I like Squeeze, I am not sure about what you mean underrated, they were all over radio and mtv in America in the 80's. But as since the 60's there have been a tremendous amount of bands that never got much notice, some that made one hit wonders....on up to the beatles, id say Squeeze is recognized as a being pretty good rock and roll band that had a lot of hits. There were overrated acts that had that new wave sound surely. Is that what you mean?

  • we yanks came up with "shove me to the shallow water before I get too deep"

  • song is great during summer time, believe me

  • God I love this track - so evocative of the early 80s

  • Jools Holland played with these guys

  • very underated band love them

  • Great band were squeeze, good to hear chris and glenn are working on a new album.

  • GOOD MIMING

  • One of the best guitar solos in the history of music. He destroys that complex progression with ease. Keys are underrated also. Just a killer song from a killer band.

  • @PeterLafluer12 A great solo, and a very fitting one for the song!! But take it Easy!! hehe,o love it too but its really quite simple. And Simple is perfect in many cases.Hearing it you can tell that it is a song in itself--every phrase practiced a million times--- and it works!! But Greates, among the greatist is a little far.But hey man i still love it!

  • @PeterLafluer12 That's what he always did! Not to mention the vocals, which barely noone can match. And he had no problem doing it all live either

  • @PeterLafluer12 Have to agree great guitar solo.......

  • Great track

    love it

  • Squeeze are and will always be timeless

  • GREATEST POP SONG EVER, BAR NONE!

  • Cant get any BETTER than this !!!!!!

  • When I first heard this on the radio when it was released, I remember trying to guess who it was by. Paul McCartney was one of my few conclusions!! It is the best Squeeze song and resides at number 10 in my top 30 of all time (and I've heard a lot of chart music).

  • @styalboy ...number 10 eh? I am curious if any Oasis songs made your

top 30....if so which ones were they?

  • @Sheldon66 Sorry Sheldon66, even if I could see the connection between Squeeze and Oasis, I would resist it with all my might. Apart from 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' and 'Some Might Say', I have to say that by and large I greatly dislike, nay detest, Oasis. In fact I'd go as far as to say that 'The Importance of Being Idle' would rate in my Top 10 worst songs of the past ten years.

  • @styalboy ......why would you resist it? Clearly, you don't like Oasis. Fine.

They do have a lot of great tunes though and yes....have some duds!

  • best squeeze song

  • errrr..... have you heard a better lead guitar solo???

  • @mensamoo Maybe the awesome guitar solo in Pulling Muscles from a Shell

  • GORGEOUS SONG xxx

  • With where have you been’sAnd faraway frownsTrying to be good By not being ’round, awsome

  • Such great music, but these guys seem to be so bad at romantic relationships.

  • @Genessender Oh, everybody is.

  • Loveeeeeeeeeeee Squeeze

  • Ok, it only took me 25 yrs to figure out what they were saying in this song.

  • wow you were lucky to see them so many tmes - yeah i do remember the coloured singles - up the junction was lilac, nail for my heart was see through!x

  • i love Squeeze - roll on Nov 30th in Birmingham cant wait to see em!!!!!!!!

  • @stephrattigan seen em 7 times since 1990, saw glenn twice on his own 3 times, amazing voice!! remeember the 7" singles were all different colours!!!!!

  • love this duo

  • One of my favourite all time songs, from a great group. I also love the great contrasting voices of Glenn and Chris - its hard to believe it was in the UK charts just under 30 years ago (released 8th Feb 1980 (UK) according to Wikipedia)

  • Glenn and Chris's voices are just made for each other! Oh, and the songs are great, too!

  • Glenn is one of our country's great treasures

  • From glen to glen, and down the mountain side

glen is a great american like that song, just kidding

  • @z0ZzZ0z , i'm getting married in the morning, so get me to the bloody church on time

  • Glen trillbrook is so cool

  • god damn great collection you have thanks for posting it!:)))

  • great song

  • I would never try to stop anyone from buying Argybargy but amongst great stuff you might just find Frank which is the best album of all time

  • Argybargy is the best of the best Squeeze album. every track is just great.

  • it really is one of the greatest pop albums. a truly fresh breath of air from the eighties. just like felt's forever breathes the lonely word.

  • My favourite Squeeze track!!!!

  • great music by talented artists that can be enjoyed by young and old! not like todays pop that is made for eleventeen year old girls and homos!

  • at least top 5 for pop guitar solos. Awesome.

  • Man, he can play really good guitar!

  • He bangs the drums pretty well too _Donna

  • Now i'm going to to go off and learn that G-tar solo.

  • Wow , how can I write as good of a pop song?

  • JUST GREAT !!

    THANX !!!

  • quality squeeze, i ve always loved this one

  • Thanks so much havent heard this since 83!

  • best guitar solo evar

  • lyrically the argybargy album is about flawless.

  • oh i see now.... hard to spot irony in 2 words

  • I used to sing along(very loud mind you) at concerts,

"And in the park, with the animals found, another nail for my heart"

  • I love Squeeze and I love this song!

  • "I've wanted to fuck Glenn Tilbrook since I was 16 "

    what a classy lady....

  • I look like him..........lol

  • lol, it's ok, the world needs sluts as well as classy ladies...personally \i like a woman who can be both

  • true that. we live in a world of opposites and the best choice is always the middle path and get best of both worlds.

  • Or neither

  • no, you get both... you just don't understand my point or the concept.

  • the comment was meant to be ironic. no matter what concept you are presenting, the world often disagrees. in this case: instead of getting the best, the world gives you nothing. it happens. that's why we laugh about it. hence the irony. hence the joke.

  • A Lady in the living room and a Slut in the bedroom wot more could one ask for LOL

  • good for you love ...at least your honest ..... you,ll never know your luck....although i think he will be very much changed.....Good Luck

  • i saw them live for the cool for cats tour at, of all places, the university of Virginia.

BTW i've wanted to f**k Glenn Tillbrook since i was about 16 (which was a LONG time ago...°

  • I wish I had the pleasure of seeing them. I don't think they ever sang a bad track.

  • I saw them 1982. I was about to see them 1980 already but I was to young to get into the place were they played, so I had to wait two more years until I finally had the great pleasure to see them live...

  • Grrreat South London band . . . seen 'em live many times.

  • fantastic song and band...1980.... wish i could go back

  • watch BBC's Ashes to Ashes!

  • Does any one like the song What The Butler Saw? That's a good song by them too.

  • This is WORLDCLASS! I fecken LOVE Squeeze!

  • me 2 thay were greeeeeat n still are

  • In certain markets. I'm here in NYC and they did remarkably well here.

    Miss those days!

    Cheers, mate!

  • I would'nt say they were "under-rated". They maybe didnt sell as many singles as others at the time, but their massive talent and contribution has always been recognised...ask any 30, 40 50 something from the UK or Ireland...go on den!!

  • Don't forget us Yanks, too! We adore this crew!

  • Well Octavius8legs, glad to hear that. Did they do well in the States at the time? (ie: if doing well is measured in terms of bill board ratings), all the best...

  • lol agreed :) ( NY here)

  • I bought "Argy Bargy" on the advice of a friend. I did't appreciate it at all. Two years later, I couldn't stop listening to it. Classic record by one of England's most underrated groups.

  • I have the five "Argybargy" promo buttons.

I keep misplacing Jools, but found him

    last week.

  • sounds as good as it did 28 years ago...Squeeze was a totally underrated band, this and Tempted are two of my favorite songs.

  • I always loved Squeeze as a kid, but I never knew Tillbrook played all those great solos. I always thought it was a session guy. They're now gods in my book.

  • Difford and Tilbrook's voices meld so well, I use to think it was done by a machine of some sort.

  • Squeeze were a hugely underrated band

    Love them

Meld is a strange word ;)

  • Great music like this is for eternity, this song sounds as good today as it did back then

  • My favourite guitar solo ever. When he gets to those sliding 6ths in the last two bars of it I want to have his babies.

  • Im 13 and this is one of my favorite songs :)

  • class act to start the 80s music years.

  • he looks like bill clinton

  • Squeeze were bloody great!

  • One of the best tunes ever.

  • Squeeze were a great british band back in the 80s. The only problem was there were so many talented bands back then that they did not stand out as highly as they should have.

  • Tilbrook kinda looks like young Bill Clinton.

  • I live in the States and could never understand why this band wasn't more well known and appreciated back in the day. They wrote so many great hooks and were just so talented and tight. Tempted, Is that Love? and Another Nail In My Heart were three of my favs but there are so many more.

  • Amazing band, amazing song.

I never understood the chorus ... I thought they sang "While here in the park ... a piano was found ... another nail in my heart".

After googling, they sang "While here in the bar ... the piano-man found ... another nail for my heart".

    Great stuff.

  • Haven't heard this song since the 80's - and it still kicks ass... and a great TOTP vid as well - thanks!

  • I thought TOTP's featured live performances. Great song, though.

  • Er, no. TOTP hardly ever featured live performances. It was all about the good sound quality, and the two seldom mix..

  • love this song

  • Was this song a hit in the U.K.- not one of their most popular songs here in the U.S.; although I always loved this one.

  • Awesome song. Just been to see them and they were on top form. Glenn's voice is amazing.

  • Seen Squeeze a few times and they are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AGREED

  • why ant they more comments about this song its a reyt song!

  • i love this song

  • Cheers marra, i'd forgotten about Squeeze.
