I was listening to an interview on National Public Radio with David Kirkpatrick,New York Times Bureau Chief in Cairo. He described how he watched the crowds at Tahir Square last Spring. The crowds would surge forward and the soliders would roll them back. This back and forth movement went on for hours, Kirkpatrick said. He reminded me of the final sequence in BATAILLE D'ALGER how the Algerian woman with a scarf or flag dances forward and the police or soldiers push her back repeatedly.
