  • Goddamn i miss the 80's but not the superslim style jeans i had to wear back then just like the lead singer!

I'm still surprised i had kids after wearing those bad boys for like 10 years til the baggies came out!

  • Funny how it works out. Love to see this, I imagine Sass Jordan was just starting out and when this video was new and fresh, all I could do was watch the girsl :)

  • I miss this era.....

  • i like this one definitly in the CLASSIC league

  • love Canadian tracs!

  • ...a young Sass Jordan...singing backup

  • @pulpBleacher AWESOME

  • good summer song

  • I rarely hear this song nowadays. It might pop up on Coast FM where I live, but not quite frequently.

And I agree, Canadian music was at its best in the 1980s. Back in the day, we had The Parachute Club, Gino Vannelli, Corey Hart, Bryan Adams, Paul Janz, The Spoons, Doug & The Slugs, Eye Eye, and other great Canadian acts. Flash forward to 2011, we have nothing but crap by Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Justin Bieber, among all.

  • yo theses guys are some hard to find but love this song

  • Yeah ViVe THE BOX!!ON est Ami avec eux sont vraiment COOL!!;D <3 THE BOX!!THE BOX!!!

  • This is when I love the interwebs. I haven't heard this song for 20 years either. And it has one of those very catchy choruses. I just knew it was by a Canadian band. Thanks!

  • You got to love Canada in the 80's ... I didn't matter you had more facial hair than Pavarotti and wore jeans so offensively tight that you could tell what religion you were... you could make it baby, this is the land of CanCon

  • what a great band !

  • WOW !! I love this song.... what is this group doing today.???

  • Hope BC is the best Town in Canada ;-)

  • just wished ahmadinejad would have continued this peaceful music revolution!

  • Montreal's awakening tune when the clubs are about to shut down fire up this tune and the whole town goes into party mode ... AR0o0o0o0o0.....

  • Did you notice a young Sass Jordan singing background vocals ? I've been in love with her ever since. Oh, and the song is good too !

  • I was wondering about that too!! Sass singing with The Box? Sass is a total BABE!!

  • @paistekid She's fabulous, and her voice sounds so great here, too!

  • @paistekid Yes it is Sass Jordan! :)

  • Can someone please post the video for ''Walk In Line'' by 54-40? According To Much Music at the time,it was filmed in a sheet metal shop in Vancouver!

  • Funny to see Sas Jordan signing the backing vocals...Hi Sarah!

    J

    T.O.

  • I can totally agree ... and Sass Jordan's voice is so prevalent throughout the song ... it shows how she began and her solo career started ... it would be nice to see them do a reunion on Canadian Idol :)

  • Might this have been shot in Puerto Rico?

  • Sass Jordan was so hot in this video

  • Montreal had such a prolific, interesting & diverse music scene in the eighties with bands such as The Box, Men Without Hats, Rational Youth, Offenback, Mahogany Rush, April Wine, Harmonium, Corey Heart, Luba, and a rising punk scene with bands such as 3 O'clock Train, Me Mom & Mongantaller, The 222's, The Asexuals and countless other great bands & artists... Lucky me I was there and part of it...

  • @shadowshaydeandme ...Don't forget about Gino Vannelli...

  • Music so much happier....

  • I haven't seen or heard these songs for over 20 years. I've tried searching online but no sucess. Thank you!!! I saw these guys in Halifax in July 1990: they sounded just like you hear them here on Youtube. The Box are truly a part of Canadian history and culture.

  • I used to watch them on a Canadian video show. I live in Detroit, but love Canadian rock. Great group.

  • Sass Jordan sure looks good in this vid

  • Can you say Canadian Anthem? Brilliant song. 'Nuff said.

  • Nice package. LOL

  • HOW CAN YOU MISS SASS JORDAN ? SMOKIN HOT!

  • Anybody notice Sass Jordan in this one?

  • @nxdefiant1 Saw the band last summer in Mattawa Ont and fell in love with her!!!

  • Nice boots

  • I saw the guys perform at McMaster University in the late 80's...they were incredible...a highlight of my school years!

  • @brynpuppy I saw them at Hamilton Place opening for Chris D'Burgh.

    Only went to see them.

  • @brynpuppy I saw them at Hamilton Place opening for Chris D'Burgh.

Only went to see them. Left halfway through Chris's show.

  • Another great Canadian band from the 80's (from Montreal)!

  • This was recorded in Sosua, Dominican-Republic, probably in 1987-1988 when I used to live there with my familly.

I remember that day like if it was yesterday and I am clearly visible in the crowd. First time I see that video in more than 20 years.

    Great posting!

  • isnt that Sass Jordan as a backup??

  • Is he the CDN version of Kevin Rowlands (DMNRs..) ?

  • Where was this filmed?

  • @boblab5

i believe it is on top of the fortress el moro in san juan puerto rico

  • @jimgregg

This is the fortress in Puerto-Plata, Dominican Republic.

  • @Sitflyer2000 sure looks like El Morro in San Juan, but perhaps the street scenes were videoed in Dominica (wich i hope to also visit someday) but at any rate..DOES N E 1 have the upload from Sass Jordan called "Suns gonna rise"

  • @jimgregg

I garentee you it was la Fortaleza de Puerto Plata. I used to live there.

  • these guys were like the Rolling Stones in Quebec. lol. Great group. i was soo suprised how good that album was when i bought it 25 years ago lol. ty

  • hopefully the right ears will hear this song. and peace will come. insha'allah.

  • Haven't heard this song for ages.....thanks for posting!!!! Awesome.

  • I first heard the album brought by my best friend's cousin on a visit from Canada to Calcutta, India, in 1987. Anyway, the whole album just blew me away. It's now 23 years since I first heard it and it's still awesome. I've been looking for their stuff on Amazon but it's really really expensive, around £30--and that too for audiotape. I'd love you to post more stuff up here so I can relive the heady 80s music.

This is my first post--thank you so much, and for bringing back so many memories.

  • @drsaibalde

It's heartbreaking how much of our Canadian culture has been lost by the fickle Canadian attitude toward our homegrown musicians and artists.

Television programs, albums and movies, gone forever, in some cases the masters destroyed when the station or label was closed or sold.

Our ancestors knew so much more about preserving our heritage than we do, today.

  • @thegirl44 Totally agree. We CDN's should be ashamed of this fickleness. So much of what we let slip away is much better than a lot of the stuff that we embrace from other countries.

  • Montreal is the best city in the world!!

  • @zapaton1968 Hey thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • @zapaton1968

agreed, some of the greatest nights of my life have been in Montreal! :)

  • I first heard this song from the original DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH. They played it at a couple of their school dances

  • @weirdscience85

Now that you mention it, yes it did.

Your memory puts mine to shame, my friend.

  • Funny how songs go

So my son, said "Make it all worth while" HUH

we are restoring our families first car a 1929 chev

the last time the Bankers screwed up.

  • as an 80s guy -- looking back, i'd say the vids (some look so corny and gaudy) actually diminish how good the actual music was......listen to the music without the vids and it's amazing.....of course, some vids were great, such as some of the police, michael jackson, and madonna etc, but you know what i mean....

  • some one kick this guy in the fanny it needs

to be re re released WOW what a song

  • If this masterpiece is not re re re re released this guy is nuts!!! I mean come on some one kick this guy in the ass....It needs to reborn, its real

    and time less.

  • ahh memories.........i played in bands from 1978 to 2007........actually our last gig we opened for thornley........anyways back in 1992 i finally convinced the guys in the band to play closer together.....always been one of my favourite songs......i know there;'s alot of good box music out there, but not too much here on you tube...can't even download too many of their songs.....might have to special order at the music store....unless someone knows where else i can get their tunes

  • Sass Jordan!

  • She was THE BOX

  • awsome how some things become part of your past. I remember watching this back when they had dinner tme video shows on CBC. Hold on I'll call rusty

  • Acid-wash jeans!!!! So '87.. Funny how they're back now! Never thought it would ever happen. I had acid-wash overalls when I was very little haha

  • Hey my cousin was in that band! He played bass!!! =) Loved their music!!!

  • It's unclear why they would name the band after female genitalia but that's neither here nor there.

  • Can you think of a better name for a band? No comment on Courtney Love's band for this comment. :)

  • LOL!!!

  • @MontrealMMA ya well its not the hairy box or the shaved one LOL!!!

  • Yayyyy for Sass!!!!!

  • Sass!

  • I wish they did a video for "Evil in me"

I feel like a demon is in my head

Who never rests, who never tires

All night like a fire in the woods

    So fascinating, so provocating

There are things I shall never have to miss

With a little help, mmm just a little help

From a friend, right here in my head

The little evil in me ;)

Awesome synth and crisp bass lines it. Check it out if you are a box fan.

  • another awesome band from the 80's. The Box was a REALLY talented but underrated band. REALLY talented!!!

  • Where did they shot the video?

  • I'd be very surprised if it isn't Fort San Filipe Puerto Plata, Doninican Republic. I was there 7 years ago and a few of the shots jogged my memory posted images on Google Earth kind of confirmed it for me, but you be the judge.

  • My, my. I haven't heard this in forever!! Glad nobody else is at work today.

  • I forgot to add that Sass Jordan looks really fine, as well as... the Gibson guitar.

  • This is why 80s music is the most unique musical decade of them all. Never to be repeated.

Music written from the heart first, sales second.

  • Man...I haven't heard or even thought of this song for 20 years.

I woke up today with this chorus playing in my head...over and over...it was almost maddening---considering until today...i forgot it exisred.

Im glad someone posted it...its a great tune.

  • Same here... hadn't thought of it for at least that long, and saw it next to Sass Jordan... had to listen!!

  • @Rockmachine99 Considering the state of the world today, we need more of these tunes...

  • this drummer is fucking awesome

  • Anyone have a link to the extended version of this song, the one released on the compilation Hit After Hit?

  • Pooh is a KNOB

  • fun song with a strong message, 80's flashback, love it! okay... Sass has Canadian citizenship, and pays Canadian taxes... that makes her Canadian.. that and her kickass voice.

  • see that singer. hes the same rare breed of man of action that Vercingetorix was. looks almost the same too. Viva Gaul!

  • Something gives me the idea that he probably reeks BO during the making of this clip. Phew...

  • Maybe like your Mom's clam rash

  • yes but the BO was masked by the smell created by his two pack a day habit LMAO

  • Sass Jordan is a babe

  • Was. Was......a babe.

  • Song is from 1987...

Same year as: Gretzky-to-Lemieux and the Canada Cup is won!!!!

  • Check out Sass Jordan singing backup

  • I love this song! I first heard it on CHEZ 106...

  • Sass Jordan one of the back up singers before rockin' on her own after this..check out some of the tunes on "Rats". Most recently a judge on Canadian Idol.

  • c'est la preuve que le peuple Québecois n'a pas assez de courage pour faire des succès francophone mondiale. il faut que se soit "américaniser". vive les américains ils vont tous nous écraser.

  • téteux d'américain

  • What?

  • You look like you should be in the video. Nice mullet, the 80's called bro...they want their hair back.

  • Translate this: T'es un trou d'cul... Lol!

  • Your a class act.

  • Didn't they do a video with some Montreal Canadiens in it

  • I heard a version of this song on the radio in bancroft ontario it sound more accoustic/remix was it awesome..anyone know the version//id love to get it..thanks

  • heard of Prince Edward County

  • That's Hastings county not Prince Edward.

  • Thats where I was from: me.

    lol

  • Where prince edward or hastings? I'm from the island.

  • Bancroft Ontario? Okay... do you get internet access there? :)

  • Great song!! Closer together, tarred and covered with feathers!! :)

  • I love the shove he gives that guy at 2:59

  • HAHAHA i love that part too quebecois adult male rock singer shoves poor little black kid out of the way - "hey kid this is MY rock video, go get your own" yes none too subtle huh LMAO

  • Sas Jordan does not sing in this song (but she is in the video as you can see). Martine St-Clair sings the back-up vocals.

  • oh thanks, I didn't know that

  • Sass and Marie Carmen both sang back up on All The Time, All The Time, All The Time by The Box released in 1985 and Sass and Martine St. Clair both sang back up on Closer Together released in 1987.

  • this is so nice, cool,Sass as a back up singer

  • The Box, great band & i sure miss their style of music as at the time was very refreshing from the hair band crap and the box sounded so good, REUNION TOUR ? would be great !!!

  • marc ca c'est la mark...........christ reviens fait pas come Fiori

  • Such a great feel good song - the possibilites were endless back in the 80's

    Alas, the dream has died..

  • @bluenotejazz I agree with you.

  • @bluenotejazz

Well said. Great melody, Sass Jordan's flowing blonde beauty, blue skies. A sense of togetherness and happiness, before the age of fanatics flying planes into our buildings. I miss the 80's.

  • Love this song!

  • sass shmass,,,its this band that kiks azzzz

  • Sass Jordan is the best

  • Yes she is!

  • I hate it when bands like, make a video in the Caribbean...

  • Thanks for posting..A video I loved when it came out in the 80's..Nice to see Sass Jordin too!

  • Yeah!

  • really this reminds me of Hey Jude

all that great singing at the end

    what a celebration

it can happen anytime we stop fighting

  • this ideally was the hope of multiculturalism and celebrating diversity but alas what we see today is the bastardization of a once proud nation(Canada)by people to afraid to stand up and fight(cowards)against there repressors,so they bring their bullshit with them.Fucking Canadians EH?Go see the movie Paschendeal by Paul Gross.Essentially..(probably too big a word for you)avminco..co..ahh what the fuck! You'd be sprackenzeeeedoishe right now if it was'nt for us"fucking canadians"THE BOX RULES!!!

  • closer together....

  • and in montreal on august 29 at La Ronde for the Nuit Blanche! Closer togetheeeeer!

  • the box ARE reunited! go to their website they are playing in Halifax in Septembre.

    Cyberhat

  • I think only the singer started the band again, Jean-Marc Pisapia...

  • I had actually E-Mailed Jean Marc Pisapia. According to him, the video was filmed in The Dominican Republic and the two singers in the video ARE Sass Jordan and a singer who sang backup on stage for The Box whose name is Sylvie Daviau, as Martine St. Clair couldn't make it to The Dominican Republic for the shoot.

He E-Mailed me this when I asked him the question of who exactly IS in this vid. Really nice guy.......

  • she is not the singer in that vid though

  • I think Sass Jordan's best work was when she was part of the duo Love & Sass.

  • Sass Jordon sounds just like Mellisa Etherige. I hope the Box reunited again.

  • Martine St-Clair is unfortunately not in the vidéo.Maybe she had other engagements.

  • Cool....ANY idea who the taller girl is in this vid, then? Kinda looked like Martine St. Clair.....

  • i was only 15 year old when this song and video

come out love Sass Jordan she very hot.

  • sass jordan is a bimbo

  • Sass Jordan was so meant to be a star... Sass if you are reading this I am your biggest fan.

  • awesome... thank you for posting... : )

  • Wonderful video. Thank you for posting.

  • Please add more THE BOX song and videos!!!

  • it was filmed in Havana, Cuba. That's the original fort their playing in.

  • Does anyone know where this video was filmed? I've been trying to figure it out.. but no luck so far.

  • Havana, Cuba.

  • Sass Jordon, contrary to popular belief, did NOT sing the backup vocals to this song. (I verified with her). It was the French singer popular in Quebec at the time - she sang the vocals, but Sass was credited, her name is mentioned in the liner notes.

  • Martin Saint-Clair did the backup vocals : ) love her voice!

  • Martin Saint-Clair did the backup vocals : ) love her voice!

  • I mean MartinE Saint-Clair lol sorry about that...

  • Sass is actually not even Canadian. She was born in England thus making her English aka British.

  • So?

  • @CanadianLiz01 I agree with you! And nobody here is giving any credit to Sylvie Daviau, the other wonderful backup singer, who IS Canadian! That attitude is, unfortunately, typically Canadian.

  • Love The Box and Sass Jordan! :-)

  • Is Sass Jorden the shorter of the two???

  • yeah sass jorden is shorter the girl is taller than sass jorden.love the video i didn't the video for a long time.

  • I *THINK* - not sure though - that the taller girl is Martine St. Clair

  • great song!!!!

  • It was such a fun song back in the eighties, thanks for posting the song.!!=:)

  • Closer together!!

  • it's cool bro, i lived in Toronto for 11 yeard, and now back home in New England, no doubt I heard hundreds of excellent awesome tunes listening to all the greater Toronto radio stations wich I would not have heard at all if I hadnt lived in Canada during the 90's

  • Those blonde singers are so cute! Oops, I mean, awesome song!

CYNY 102.1 in Toronto use to play The Box all of the time back then.

Ah umm - Ah umm - Ah umm - Ah umm - Ah umm.

    Thanks for the post! :)

  • ITS CFNY
