That's where you're wrong. Thiose explosions in this game are a symbolical way of representing defeat (or death). They never happened to them literally. Saying Gray Fox died because of a landmine is like saying every single Boss in this game had a landmine near them when they died.
Dude! Get real! 'Metal Gear Solid 3' was made in the year 2005, whereas this game ('Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake') was made in 1989. You really expect me to believe that Hideo Kojima already had that kind of idea which was only introduced many years later? Highly unlikely, I'm afraid (and I'm not a fan of miracles). Try seeing this from a realistic perspective, instead of the fictional perspective that the games try to shove up your skull. Anyway, none of those explosions on those Bosses were real.
And by "universe point-of-view", you mean the fictional perspective, right? WRONG path, dude! Wrong path! That is not the way to know the truth behind a game. Let me get this clear...is there any part in the game's manual that says something about the reasons behind those explosions? If you find it, just let me know. If not, don't come up with another fanboyish theories like that. 'Metal Gear Solid 3' was made many years later, so that thing about it beeing a prequel is irrelevant here.
But it's unrealistic to go that way. You have to realize that this whole "Metal Gear universe" can be manipulated by the development staff in the real world. You never know exactly what these people could be up to.
Ah, so you do realize that these were just special effects after all? OKay, I thought you were implying something else. Oh, by the way, one word of advice...if you have a PlayStation 3 and if you also have 'Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots'...don't believe everything you read in the M.G.S. 4 DataBase.
That port in MGS3 Subsistence was dream come true. The only thing I hated was that Grey Fox was now some creepy, skinny albino instead of the half-black Rambo-ish soldier from the original. His incarnation in Portable Ops was even creepier.
I didn't really see how it wasn't necessary. Heck, his formerly fighting as a FREMILO soldier makes his fighting for RENAMO even more significant than before, if you really think about it.
I didn't like how he was a Ninja in MPO. I thought Gray Fox just being an awesome soldier like Solid Snake with no super ability was good enough experience and back story for him.
Actually, his being subjected to the perfect soldier project provides more than enough explaination as to how he "never missed a target" in his entirety of his service of FOXHOUND that he was labelled under. I mean, he's good, but even a seasoned soldier isn't THAT good.
Also, technically, he wasn't a ninja. He was moreorless an enhanced soldier.
He was pretty much a Ninja, the way he could move and use that sword. Nah I just thought it was a bit of a cop out, in the rest of the series he's known as the only soldier to earn the title "Fox". He's not a ninja in MG2 so I don't understand why they added it to his backstory. Anyway I didn't like a lot of things about MPO, and neither did Hideo, hence why he's making Peace Walker which will overrule MPO!
If he were to overrule MPO with PW, then he would also have to overrule MGS4, seeing how that also referenced portions of MPO (Heck, they even had "The Frank Hunter" playing in the background during Naomi's talk about Gray Fox)
And, BTW, Ninjas do NOT use firearms. Even if they did, we might as well call Solid Snake and anyone else a ninja as well, seeing how they moved similarily (Heck, the original MG manual and I think MG2:SS manual stated that FOXHOUND is comparable to the modern ninja.)
I'm fine with MGS4 being overruled as well! MPO and MGS4 for me were absolutely terrible MGS games.
Gray Fox used Firearms in the MGS against Metal Gear Rex do destroy the radome. His Ninja ability in MPO was pretty much put in to align with MGS1 to show where he got his Ninja-esque ability from but it's pretty silly, we can just accept his suit in MGS1 was responsible for his Ninja like movement. Before that though, he was just a really good soldier, naturally. (well not after MPO!)
Personally, I doubt a soldier could naturally be able to "never miss their prey" as Snake put it in his conversation with Kassler. Even elites make mistakes that allow their prey to escape, but the conversation made it seem as though, from the start of his career at FOXHOUND, he never missed his target. At least with the whole "Perfect Soldier Project", we have an explaination for that. It's not "natural" to never miss your target period (which the conversation implied).
I understand what you're saying. But Big Boos was accepted at the best soldier in the series, then Solid Snake and none of them have a super ability they're just great soldiers and it could work the same way for Fox.
Except unlike Gray Fox, whom prior to being defeated by Snake, had never missed his target, Big Boss had in effect missed his target sometimes (he even admitted it himself by saying "even I have made mistakes")
@megagrey Blame Metal Gear Solid/Twin Snakes for that, then. It's because of Shiwanka's artwork for that game that we're stuck with the creepy, skinny "albino" version of Gray Fox. Of course, he's not really an "albino" as he doesn't have red eyes, but still.
Metal Gear D used to be the ultimate weapon, then it took a grenade to the knee.

then its proboly like in MGS3 where they had bombs attached to them so they wouldnt get captured by the enemy and it goes off when they die.
thevoodoosailor 1 year ago
You do realize this game was made way before 'Metal Gear Solid 3', right ?
filipeflower 1 year ago
@filipeflower
duh hey! but that was set years before it so they would have the technology to make the bombs.

You know what I find funny? The Metal Gears were supposed to be revolutionary because of their legs, making it a "walking tank".
And yet, those legs which make them so great, happen to be their very weakness, in both games, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.
Just saying. Even in MGS2, shooting the Rays' knees made them cry.

Are you taking "Never missed his target" literally. I'm sure that's more of an expression to emphasise how good he is.
Anyway, if he "Never missed his target" how come he couldn't kill Big Boss in MPO?
