  • VS-880 is "bad sound" but some people say, Data can be compressed "sound" light is on,

I think that the recording of good pop

  • VS-880は「音が悪い」と言う人もいるけれど、

    データが圧縮されることで、「軽い音」になって、

    ポップスの録音には適していると思います。

  • Well said Amigo!!

A proud parent of the vs880 and it's little sister vs840.

    :D

    CHEERS!

  • Two of the best all in one recorders were the VS880 anmd the VS1680. The latter, I regret having sold almost immediately. Nothing wrong with PC recording, especially in conjunction with either of these, but, once you've commited yourself toPC only, after having had a taste of these, you'll find yourself wanting to go back. So, looks like I am going to be acquiring the 880 again, and looking forward to it. So, yes, Roland really should consider bringing these babies back.

  • like i said before i bought one from ebay, then i went and bought the effects board, could you please show me how to install it,it would be greatly appreciated, they say its an easy install i just dont want to mess up,thanks

  • @billycat1965 I really don't know. When I bought mine back in 1996 I had it preinstalled. All I know is you remove the plate on the bottom of the machine and it just snaps in inside there.

  • @billycat1965 check out the videos I've been putting up lately.

  • @KnownAzTAF Thanks for the comment

  • is there any way to help me get started with mine? i just got it and cant really follow the inst.

  • thanks,i have another question, are these hard to use and learn.

  • @billycat1965

No they are pretty straight forward. The only thing you do have to remember is the shift key. Because most of the buttons do double duty. There is a lot of deep stuff you can get into especially in the editing features. But I never used any of that stuff. I loved the EQ in that machine. If you get one, or have one all I'm saying is have fun. I did when I was using mine.

  • i just bought one of these on ebay for $60.00 did i get a good deal?

  • @billycat1965

Did you make a good deal! A Good Deal! Wow you stole it. That was a great deal

  • I agree totally .

  • Just wondering how you extract the data from your unit? Thanks.

  • im gettin my studio set up now and found this machine for 230 at apawn shop, its great!!

  • I agree and so does MF Doom and the rest of the stones throw cats. Respect!

  • An update to my comment from June, 2010...

Since posting that comment, I have further upgraded my VS880. I have located and successfully installed an adapter so I can now use common SD media cards in place of the internal hard drive. The unit is now completely silent.

Thanks again for this video. Nicely said.

    Rick

  • @rickbell7 Hi

How did you do this upgrade? I am very interested as well in replacing the IDE drive with SD

  • @marceldohmen

Well, I don't like to go on someone else's video and talk about one of mine, but you are welcome to look for the two videos I have about upgrading the VS880. They are on my channel.

    Rick

  • @rickbell7 Dude it would be a huge favor if you could give me some insight on the SD media cards. I've had my VS 880 since 1998 and a couple of years later it erased all my work. On my site the very first song I did "Life Changes" was erased but luckily I transfered it to the computer. It's an ok song but does show the ability of this machine, even for an amature like me. I still have it and its in tip top shape. Would like to use it again.

  • @Axewinder

Sounds like you did a "drive initialize" on it. That wipes everything off the internal hard drive. Good thing you saved the song.

    .

You need an adapter in order to use the SD media cards. This adapter isn't very expensive, is easy to change out and works silently.

    .

The VS880 is still an amazing unit...even given its age. I wouldn't part with mine at any price, LOL.

  • @rickbell7 Yep I guess maybe I did that. Still any track I lay and save doesn't stick around long. As soon as I reboot it's gone. I would like to hook up my VS 880 to my Digi 001 interface pro tools for my macG4. Any tips would be appreciated and thanks again for your response.

  • I'm gettin' all teary-eyed! I miss this machine!

  • can you add a screen 2 the Roland VS-880

  • IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED:

I have one and don;t use it. i never have and this was passed down to me. Im more of a musician that's why. If you're interested let me know. Im in los angeles,ca and i am NOT a scammer. i have a real ebay account and i am verified. I can also meet with you if you are near by. My email is musiiick@aol.com if you want to contact me. I;m selling it for $100 plus shipping (if needed). It comes with the manual as well.

  • ela funciona no pro tools?

  • nice to see some fan support for HDD recorders.

  • The VS880 ROCKS absolutely! I agree, Roland needs to bring this unit back. Sadly it will never happen.

I fell in love with the 880 the very first time I turned it on in the store...even before I bought it. I just "knew" that this was THE unit for me. The only issues I have with it are trivial...a backlight would be nice. And the original 1 gig HD is too small. I recently put in a 4Gig and it is much better!

I can't say enough good things about the 880.

    Thanks for this video!

    Rick
