Two of the best all in one recorders were the VS880 anmd the VS1680. The latter, I regret having sold almost immediately. Nothing wrong with PC recording, especially in conjunction with either of these, but, once you've commited yourself toPC only, after having had a taste of these, you'll find yourself wanting to go back. So, looks like I am going to be acquiring the 880 again, and looking forward to it. So, yes, Roland really should consider bringing these babies back.
like i said before i bought one from ebay, then i went and bought the effects board, could you please show me how to install it,it would be greatly appreciated, they say its an easy install i just dont want to mess up,thanks
@billycat1965 I really don't know. When I bought mine back in 1996 I had it preinstalled. All I know is you remove the plate on the bottom of the machine and it just snaps in inside there.
No they are pretty straight forward. The only thing you do have to remember is the shift key. Because most of the buttons do double duty. There is a lot of deep stuff you can get into especially in the editing features. But I never used any of that stuff. I loved the EQ in that machine. If you get one, or have one all I'm saying is have fun. I did when I was using mine.
Since posting that comment, I have further upgraded my VS880. I have located and successfully installed an adapter so I can now use common SD media cards in place of the internal hard drive. The unit is now completely silent.
Well, I don't like to go on someone else's video and talk about one of mine, but you are welcome to look for the two videos I have about upgrading the VS880. They are on my channel.
@rickbell7 Dude it would be a huge favor if you could give me some insight on the SD media cards. I've had my VS 880 since 1998 and a couple of years later it erased all my work. On my site the very first song I did "Life Changes" was erased but luckily I transfered it to the computer. It's an ok song but does show the ability of this machine, even for an amature like me. I still have it and its in tip top shape. Would like to use it again.
@rickbell7 Yep I guess maybe I did that. Still any track I lay and save doesn't stick around long. As soon as I reboot it's gone. I would like to hook up my VS 880 to my Digi 001 interface pro tools for my macG4. Any tips would be appreciated and thanks again for your response.
I have one and don;t use it. i never have and this was passed down to me. Im more of a musician that's why. If you're interested let me know. Im in los angeles,ca and i am NOT a scammer. i have a real ebay account and i am verified. I can also meet with you if you are near by. My email is musiiick@aol.com if you want to contact me. I;m selling it for $100 plus shipping (if needed). It comes with the manual as well.
The VS880 ROCKS absolutely! I agree, Roland needs to bring this unit back. Sadly it will never happen.
I fell in love with the 880 the very first time I turned it on in the store...even before I bought it. I just "knew" that this was THE unit for me. The only issues I have with it are trivial...a backlight would be nice. And the original 1 gig HD is too small. I recently put in a 4Gig and it is much better!
VS-880 is "bad sound" but some people say, Data can be compressed "sound" light is on,
I think that the recording of good pop

VS-880は「音が悪い」と言う人もいるけれど、
データが圧縮されることで、「軽い音」になって、
ポップスの録音には適していると思います。

An update to my comment from June, 2010...
Since posting that comment, I have further upgraded my VS880. I have located and successfully installed an adapter so I can now use common SD media cards in place of the internal hard drive. The unit is now completely silent.
Thanks again for this video. Nicely said.

@Axewinder
Sounds like you did a "drive initialize" on it. That wipes everything off the internal hard drive. Good thing you saved the song.
.
You need an adapter in order to use the SD media cards. This adapter isn't very expensive, is easy to change out and works silently.
.
The VS880 is still an amazing unit...even given its age. I wouldn't part with mine at any price, LOL.
