You really did a great job! But I think I know why they decided to make that blue tint: because Luke staying on Dagobah is compared to a nightmare (even Luke thinks that he became crazy), and the blue tint helps giving us the idea that all Luke is doing could be just a nightmare, something unreal. That's why I think it should be left as is. However I saw a lot of real gamma problems in the movies (even between different shots from the same scene!) If you can fix them, it would be great!
How terrible the colors are? I say , the new "corrected" scene looks actually dull in comparison.
Sometimes a non perfectly adjusted white ads a lot to a scene, moreover lighting technicians must had worked hard to tint the light when filming and give the scene the atmosphere it had.
I´ve seen in several movies that get remastered how they loose much of what made them appealing in the first place. This is another case of that for me.
@jamontoastst & @anakin87654 , the films NEVER looked the way they do on the DVD's. The tint was not there back in 1980 and it wasn't there in 1997 when the Special editions came out. The tint and darkness was added only in 2004 for the DVD set. Yoda was never that colour. You can see throughout ESB DVD that the colours were messed up.
@adywanuk You got no proof of that the tint has IMHO always been there its just this brings it out more and honestly Its not that big a deal I like it just as much if it was a flub because it still fits the setting the Blue for Hoth and the Green for Dagobah
I've been swamps in south Louisiana and my thoughts are: the original tint is too strong. I think they should use the computers at ILM to put the tint on backround objects and not on the foreground objects. It would help protray the thickening mist as you move out of sight. Adywans took to much of the tint out.
I kinda like the greenish tint for the Dagobah scenes, but I gotta say it needs to be redone so it looks a little more natural. Right now, Adywan's color correction looks better, but I would prefer it if he simply re-touched the green tint rather than completely erase it.
I hope the people who prefer the 2004 picture realize that it never was like that before, the color correction is actually restoring the movies to how they originally looked.
It'd be like saying you prefer the color version of Casablanca.

The dvd version is beautiful. The deep, super saturated coloring really brings out the romance of the whole film. The fan version is too concerned with realism.
Yeah ,same here. I really love the slight enhancement of the green and the saturation of the surrounding colors in the 2003 Dvd editions. Very intrancing and beautiful to the eye. Brings out the visual richness and complete fantasy of the movie.
The whole thing is - it's a tint. Nothing more - nothing atmospheric about it. it drowns out natural colours and we all want it as close to the original version as possible with the additional changes.
Why should Hoth have a blue tint? Why should dagobah have a green tint? Why should the interior of the Avenger have a tint at all. It's artificial lighting and it makes no sense at all.
Yes, we'll all go and buy whatever version GL decides to put out, but I prefer to watch Adywan's work!
I agree, the Andywan version is good, but I prefer the greenisch tint because it give that swamp and mist look. Think I will get much tumbs down by saying this... But that is my opinion :P
That's only because the special effects in this time are better then in the time from 1977 to 1980. I prefer this Yoda above the ep II and III version
Yes, only the 2004 dvd's look like Ted Turner supervised the transfer. Adywan is restoring the color to how it basically looked all along. By using the special edition dvd, he gets a sharp, anamorphic image.
Even the '97 versions didn't have the color problems.
when yoda says so certain are you, it sounds like he is singing!!! hahahaha

Yoda is brownish.

I feel that being George Lucas owns it and has it and made the vision that the color is more accurate and realistic to his vision.

once again Lucas fucked up. colours are so artificial now . nothing better than the original

@Animador3dVFX The tint was done in post anyway. The spread does't look like on set lighting to me at all. I could be wrong but it seems off.

Stop editing out the color grading!!! The green was intentional and looks better!

The tint isn't from the 80th. And it's not swamp only.
The entire Movie Series has the taint.
It's not on the old VHS or on the Laserdisc.
RFTL 1 year ago
@RFTL So I'm guessing the tint is not on the VHS special editions? Only the DVD version?

@adywanuk It's called color grading. It's not "messed up." It was intentional.

i like the fact that andywan has improved the colours but i do prefer the original ones because it gives dagobah a darker and mysterious look

I like the Andywan color much better than the 2004 DVD I must say.
BeEtLjOoZ 2 years ago
Hate to say it, but the color for the 2004 DVD is better. One thing he shouldn't mess with.
When Adywan changes the film to such a HUGE extent, one has to wonder why he wants to return it to the original color which isn't as good.

Ady looks like he's doing a good job. Combined with the subtle effects later on this is gonna look fantastic :)

Yoda looks so fake for starters.
