Yuki is a shit, he hasnt demonstrated nothing already... so stop saying that he is the next number 1. Even Murray hasnt reach number 1 and he has been in the circuit for 5 years
His peers & juniors in circuit have already surpassed him. He has several shortcomings, as people have described here, more importantly, it's nothing wrong to accept that that's him. At this age, learning new techniques or changing techniques are out of question.
If he prepares to be a doubles players only, he may have a shot. he is NOT in the circuit of Top Indians, who are playing now, like Boppana, Somdev etc. He may be richer than them.
It's nice to read a lot of comments. Being a person of Indian origin, surely Yuki has come a long distance and his parents, family, friends and fellow indians should be proud of him. As a tennis connoisseur, and as a tennis-active parent in the US I would say: He is far off for being a pro in the circuit. He can declare himself as a pro, but that will be a foolish thing to do.
He probably spends a fortune (he has it fortunately) w Bolletary academy & he continues to do so.
People say he is India's hope but in reality, he isn't a product of India. What I mean by that is Americans trained him so he is really representing American India. I want to see countries developing their own stars like China with their swing for the stars program. Li Na would be a great example. Also Hyung Taik Lee from South Korea is another great example. He reached a career high of 36 and was a Korean tennis player developed in South Korea. Lee beat people like Murray, soderling and ferro.
@bournefury firstly, i play tennis to a high junior level so i know my stuff
secondly, ill be fair now- he is obviously a good player- he wouldnt be top junior if he wasnt, i just dont think his technique (which is integral to staying injury free and effortless power) is robust enough to take him to the top of the mens game
my initial comment was abit extreme- i just wanted to make my general point
@mbblt I see, your first comment made it seem like you were criticizing the aesthetics of his techniques rather than the technique itself. I wasn't trying to offend you although it certainly may have come off that way.
Well, finally got to see Yuki play. He has been consistently the top ranked junior player since 2 years.... he is the hope of India.
In India, ppl watch so much tennis, but finally they are getting a star player as well (ofcourse we have had very good players like Ramesh Krishnan and Vijay amritraj, but no top-10 player).
My fav current player is Djokovic, and he so much plays like him. The style of hitting is similar, body movement, position is all too similar. Wow, my second Djokovic! :)
@grkhetan Yuki is very good, but junior ITF rankings are hard to go by. ur ramking is determined by ur doubles pts + ur singles pts. Also, some juniors play pros right away instead of juniors, or on't play that many juniors, or r just coming up...etc. The juniors r a different game. Look at donald young, he hasn;t done much. But i do think that yuki has very good potential. GL to him.
@grkhetan who cares about junior ranking. Being top ten in junior ranking is a good feat but for pros that means nothing. I want to see Yuki play in mens us open. Jack already have and won mixed doubles this year
I just gotta say Yuki has one awkward serving wind up. Hell I don't see how anyone can serve with a wind up like that. His forehand is beastly though and his backhand needs a bit more work, but I guess he's got consistency among the juniors.
I just saw him play a Futures tournament in Texas. He beat 2 seeded players, one with a world ranking of 472, before falling to the guy who plays #1 at UT. Jack's definitely got game that you can't see from this clip. He's got incredible volleys but seems uncertain on approach. He also gets down on himself too much. He's just young and flappable and needs a good coach. I look forward to following his career at UT and/or pros.
yuki's backhand looks strange. Normally on the two-hander you see them push through the ball, where as it looks like he's doing 100% brushing on the ball, and has the windshield wiper movement.
Seems as if Yuki is using a oversize racket or at least 102-105" frame ; he should switch to a smaller headsize if he needs to be more effective at the nets; for dictating the game from baseline is difficult at this level.
He's got a solid game...does remind of Djolovic..he's flexible..doesnt make many mistakes..at 17 i think he's great..Fed was 20 when he started making inroads into the men's circuit..so let him have all the time he wants.
lol theres no one in the stands

Jack Sock is an out- and-out better player than Yuki. It's difficult to negotiate or argue on that axis....

Yuki has a backhand like Djokovic's, forehand like Roddick's. Looks like a pretty deadly combination to me.
