  • MASTERRRR

  • 3 people tried to play this

  • @captsouth funny

  • It sings like a violin...and has the crunchy, tantilising tones of a master's double bass.

Does get much better than this?!

  • Bringing these sounds out of an upright bass. I just never thought it possible. Truly amazing!

  • Melodic and full of intesity.

  • Him and Jeff Berlin, . . the 2 best bass players, period.

  • well........this is the first time I've actually heard him on double bass and I'm most impressed, the brother's got skills!

  • Why doesn't this one have a firm unquestionable five stars?

Somebody out there must be totally deluded about what true skill and musical performanse is about.

  • I feel ya Brother!

Hearing him live brings tears of joy to my soul!!!

  • RighT!!!

  • @dogofman You have to admit that for most people this would be considered kind of boring. It's not very musical. Just very showy. I could see why a lot of people might not watch this all the way through.

  • @Srinivassa

    Not very musical?

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

  • musical instrument knowledge fail

  • Double bass is also caled bass dumbass.

  • this really is amazing

  • I was there - went backstage and met with Stanley right after that performance... truly remarkable! My father played and recorded in a group of three bassists back in 1952 - Harry Babasin, Oscar Pettiford, and Joe Comfort - 56 years ago! A fact that was not lost on Stanley, who showed tremendous respect for what my father did so many years ago... VIVA LA BASS!!!!

  • WOW!!! I would LOVE to hear that session ... did anyone record it?

  • Hi ElCocomacaco - one point of clarification. My father was the first bassist in jazz to play pizzicato jazz cello in 1947 with Dodo Marmarosa. Oscar Pettiford was also famous for his cello work. So, my father and Oscar formed a group where Harry and Oscar played duet cellos with Joe Comfort backing them on bass. They did a four song EP that released on Imperial Records as the Oscar Pettiford All Stars. You can find the actual album occasionally on Ebay. Cheers!

  • @TheONOFFON I met Stanley this year after being a devotee for decades, very great and humble man and very respectful.

  • AMAZING!!
