  • what was the rubble at 4:30 ? it looked like a row of buildings

  • @drewnickel It was

  • @MyRapErik I meant like houses or stores?

  • @drewnickel Culd be a mix of both but it looks more like houses

  • Never Touch a down power line Shit Heads

  • this makes me very scared, knowing that all the towns around me have been hit, exept our town, and people say its gunna happen sooner or later

  • God bless these men, stopping and asking how they could help, that is what storm chasing should be about. All this thrill seeking is pathetic, it seems that nobody realizes just how devastating tornadoes can really be. Sure, Reed and his team get excited, but their work is life saving. God bless all storm chasers out there who do it for the people and not for the thrills.

  • ***** Exceptional work guys! You served yourselves and Greensburg with honor and distinction. You did this while making a "vital" audio and video record of the crisis hours after the storm. What's more, unlike many storm chasers, all of you in the car were calm and kept your wits together — thinking of people first and your camera second.

  • wow this is crazy how horrible that these people got hit like this, was this EF5 tornado still on the ground?

  • Thanks for stopping to ask people if they need a ride/help.

Hope Greensburg has recovered, the people have healed and I hope that guy eventually found his dog alive and well.

  • its so eerie with the constant lightning flashes.

  • +100000000000000000 points for stopping and helping! Class act!

  • Where is part 2???

  • @emmabradley its call the aftermath thats part two...

  • Dick and Darin...Thank you guys for showing everyone that chasers arent a bunch of thrill seeking rednecks or stupid people, really showed what we do to try and save lives by giving the NWS an accurate report of where the tornado actually is,since not all tornadoes are deteced on radar....Good Job...May the winds grant you many successful chases throughout the years.....Derek Hammontree Memphis TN Skywarn

  • Live in Hoisington. Hit by a tornado in 2001. Very hard to describe the daze all who encounter this are in. At first most are to shocked to even think then you start thinking of what about my family and friends. what has happened to my pets. Bless these people for stopping to help because in that situation, they are your connection with reality.

  • i was there i heard and saw everything now that i watch this it makes me wanna cry and sends chills down my spine... i miss the old greensburg

  • I live in Pennsylvania and we start getting nervous in May, especially late May as western Pa had a terrible tornado outbreak on May 31, 1985.

  • I have never seen so many flashes of lighting during a storm like in this video scary as hell im from the UK.

  • Nobody got close enough to measure the wind inside this tornado. No instruments survived long enough to measure the wind speeds. About 2 miles from the tornado winds were gusting near 100 mph , and thats rare to happen 1.8 miles away from a tornado. This was deffinetley on par with an F5 rating.

  • why would you walk on a country road during a tornado?

  • @mmikeironhorse Because it destroyed their homes, and they were looking for help,

and this was after, not during, the tornado.

  • u never want a tornado when its night

cant see it and if your driving away u dont realy know where it is

  • TVN guys, This proves we are the first responders after a tornado.

When I say we I mean Storm spotters and chasers!

  • @flskywarn thank you for saying so, i am a storm spotter by the border of wisconsin and illinois and i've seen a ef3 but never a ef5. this was a monster, thank god for the spotters and the media broadcasting the warnings. they saved lives that night and we all can agree on that.

    -chaser

  • for as good a camera they had, the footage reminds me of Cloverfield! scary stuff, man!

  • in some ways i agree the thing i dont understand about the new scale is why did they lower the windspeed values? and doesnt it seem like a bit of a kawinkydink that the first f-5 or EF-5 to happen within 8 years happened the same year that stats for that kind of srengthed tornado went from 260 mph to 200? idk. but i would like some explainations.

  • poor town:(

  • Whooo....wow. That's some heavy shit right there. That old man looked so helpless...great video man. It really shows how it is right after a huge disaster.

  • Picking up that power line has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen a storm chaser do. Seriously, your friend would have been bone had that been on. DUMB DUMB DUMB!

  • Yeah, wasn't the smartest move!

  • They said the person in front of them had already lifted the lines, so they already knew the lines were dead. They needed to move on so they could go help people

  • When I was about 11 years old, me and my family experienced an EF5 tornado. It happened on Thanksgiving eve. We didn't know how strong the storm was until the next day. We were not warned of the tornado because it took out the power as it came into town. We heard later that Alabama took a hit from the same storm but not as bad as we did in Mississippi. When I see Greensburg, I think of that tornado. Its like looking at my town after the storm all over again.

  • There have only been two tornadoes rated EF5. One in Kansas, the other in Iowa.

  • Are you talking about just for that year? If that's the case, then you are right. The tornado that hit Weir, MS was definitely an EF5, no doubt about it.

  • No, there was one EF5 in 2007 and another in 2008. One in Canada was rated F5. The last tornado to be rated F5 before 2007 was in 1999. When was the Weir, MS tornado?

  • It was in 1992 or 1993. It was DEFINITELY an EF5. The damage and the size of the tornado was horrific. There was a wind gage in Weir, MS during that time and it broke off when the winds reached 240mph. That was just before the tornado hit the town. The tornado moved a concrete bridge that has braces on it that were bigger than my leg. When the tornado passed by the bridge, it moved part of it a foot to the right.

  • It would be an F5 then as tornadoes before 2007 are not rated o the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Thought there is little need for distinction as the Damage of an F5 and EF5 are pretty much th same.

  • Quite an emotive video. I remember watching the news reports here in the UK the day afterwards and it was awful. Have to say thought that the amount of lightning in the storm is really something, ferocious.

  • Wow, That gives me chills. :(

  • poor dog...it's just the same as a child lost after a storm....God Bless those that survived...R.I.P. for the loved ones lost.

  • Oh god. D: That was a HUGE tornado. I've had a tornado touch down on my home this year. it was nothing compared to this.

  • at 8:12 a Toyota prius drives by, and when your in the path of a tornado... being "green" is not the best thing...

  • @photographyatitsbest

Um, *no* vehicle, green or otherwise, would offer you shelter in the path of a tornado such as this. Even Reed Timmer would probably have given it a wide berth.

If that Prius was carrying emergency supplies, so much the better.

Also remember that the people of Greensburg decided to rebuild their town in an environmentally-friendly fashion.

  • Jesus...

  • yeah word of advice learn how to type. "yes day do lay there hot", ?????.

  • great job guys!!!!!!! you guys are amazing!!!

  • Good Job Guys for helping out, very impressive!

    Be Safe!

  • as iv been saying in the last two videos NEVER chase tornadoes at night

    it is extremely dangerous

  • every tornado i have been in has been in the dark

    its really scary

  • tornadoes at night are so creepy xD

  • great video you guys are really great to help out...but it could have been a deadly mistake to just grav a wire to see if it was hot...love the video

  • My birthday is on the Super Tuesday outbreak, i had close to 60 people die on my birthday...

  • same with me

  • was this the tornado that hit hallam nebraska

  • no but i think it was the same cell

  • Hallam was all the way back in 2004...May 22, 2004

  • lol im stupid

  • Its ok:)

  • nice work very kind to help out too.

  • Nice Work Dick and Darin, great example of how chasers first on the scene should respond...

  • this is excellent historical documentation of what happened that night. really scary stuff.

  • fitting you should add this part on the anniversary of the storm.

  • wow thats truly great you guys are trying to help people out in these horrible situations...thank your for sharing.

  • I agree with Momoftwinsplu1

These guys are great not only sharing with people the greatness and distruction of tornadoes but also showing compassion and helping the victims. I'd love to join a group of guys like this!

  • Wow that really gets the feeling across.

  • Good video, you guys were very kind to stop and see if everyone was alright.

  • ive seen this storm on the news radar and this is the real footage...nice work..

  • Wow!!!

  • Cool.

  • These guys give chasers a good name. So many people think you are all crazy chasing these things and get in the way. They don't understad you are trying to learn about them to save lives. These guys were not just chasers but rescuers that night. Way to go and awesome footage

  • wow awesome

  • awsome!!!

  • w00t

  • I think thats weird one semi was torn all to hell, but the one across the street was barely damaged. Tornadoes are strange creatures.

That is some amazing footage of the aftermath of a tornado. I give props to the storm chasers for going out of their way to help the citizens of that town.

  • Tornadoes.....are creatures?

  • Figure of speech.

  • Wow..Awesome Footage!
