  • Cool stuff! Just built one myself, they're quite fun.

  • this is probably the best rubens tube vid out there.

  • Called multiphonics, you can actually play them without electronics as well.

  • Just goes to show that the plasma power in a flames are so alike the electrical power that we plug everything into. Awsome!! Great Job!! 5stars

  • exquiste

  • so it's based on the frequency of the sound wave and the volume doesn't matter?

  • Volume probably does affect the height of the flames (amplitude). Frequency just affects the wavelength of the flames. Just a guess, but I think the length of the tube has to be made for the specific song, so its length is a multiple of the wavelength of the song's home key.

Example: the wavelength of the note A(440) is roughly .75 meters. For a song in the key of A, use a tube that long.

  • thats awesome

  • I liked,really cool.

btw, not here on the theme, but how did that sound to ring through the octave? or the effects?

  • I think it was the tube playing it lower as the air passed through.

  • This is amazingly cool.

  • ive seen better. type fire fluteboxing and watch the blue peter kids show version

  • yo

    ............

  • how did u make the flames so straight

  • that looks ...wow....amazing...well done!!!

  • really cool i like the simplicity of the flute and flames well done

  • Amazing

  • Your Ruben's Tube video is the BEST one I've seen! Keep up the good work with your performance art. I think you are very thoughtful to choose an instrument that shows the frequencies so well. I am also impressed that you are PLAYING the instrument, rather than just playing pre-recorded music. Take care.

  • That is feaking rad

  • why does your flute sound like it has some form of octave shift down (as though you're playing both flute and... bass bass flute?) Are you playing along to a recording or is it a live effect?

  • There is an effects pedal in use. It is a live effect during live performance by Alyce Santoro.

  • why were the flames larger the after the first song? Was it because u were playing at a certain pitch?

  • Great video. I want one!

  • Hey How did u send the Sound waves to the tube?

  • good eye, I did not include a shot of the rubber diaphragm on the end of the tube next to the amplifier. The amp vibrations pulse the diaphragm, the diaphragm moves the gas, which is flaming through the holes on top, just like a gas stove. There are diagrams on line, check wikipedia. It is a dangerous project, I recommend not doing it. If the diaphragm comes off you have a room full of gas. and flame.

  • fire makes everything better

  • does anyone understand the discription to this vid or am i just an idiot?

  • nice.

  • sweet

  • i love phsics:))

  • physics is a bastard. especially if you get in a car accident.

  • Very cool.
