I've never cut myself to create a scab, but I compulsively pick my scabs. I can't stop. I've had to be on antibiotics and have several creams because they're always infected. I'm 14 now, I've been doing this for about 10 years. I hate the scars but I can't stop it and control it, it's so frustrating, and I know it's gross, but nobody can help me and I can't seem to help myself... I was kinda relieved to see this and see other people go through it, too.

I have the same problem. It stems from my anxiety disorder and OCD. I never thought about cutting, but my arms and legs are covered with tiny wounds. Anyone who laughs or pocks fun at this disorder is an ass, okay? It's a real problem and not a joke in any way. I'm glad the problem got some exposure on TV to show everyone that it is very real and this is a pproblem more people face than we can imagine.

I have had this same addiction for about six years now. It started as a result of depression and severe anxiety that I had been struggling with due to a traumatic event I experienced. When I saw the commercial for this particular episode on tv I was shocked and almost relieved because now I knew I wasn't the only one out there who was doing this particular form of self-harm. But I also felt sad for this woman because I know how much it hurts. To anyone else suffering from this addiction or cutt

@princessjoycess17 It's an addiction just like cutting, the release of endorphins is an immediate reaction and stress reliever. Sadly the infections that can happen from these are bad and the scarring is permanent. It is a pretty common addiction though.

I do it for the same reasons drug users do drugs, it's an escape, it gives me a temporary high and I forget about my problems for a few seconds. I have tried resisting the urges to pick for two hours and became very agitated and angry. As soon as I gave up and finally picked the anger and agitation went away. Now tell me that isn't addiction.

Free advice form a shrink (moi): You need to find yourself a similarly satisfying habit that doesn't endanger your health.

Next time you start picking try to focus on what happens to your mood, breathing and perception of time. Try to copy that type of breathing pattern when engaged in other activities, like cleaning, reading, something creative?.

If you feel like therapy, I believe behavioral therapy is a better choice for you. Your brain and body CAN be re-taught to experience pleasure.

I had this problem all through my childhood. I kept trying to stop but it was somehow so enjoyable. I never cut any new wounds, I only picked the existing mosquito bites...

then when I was about 12 or 13 I just stopped somehow. All the scabs healed and it was over... well sort of. every now and then if I get a scab or a cut I might pick at it a few times but then I let it heal. I can't go back to how it was.

I now suffer from anxiety and I can't help thinking that it's related.
