There is no fair debate against this braiwashed religious nutcase. Its a push-over for Hitchens. No intelligent person believes in angels, miracles, virgin births and an eternal afterlife with an imaginary magic boss in the sky.
I am on Facebook and John Piper has turned off his comments on this video. Is it possible that a man as famous as John Piper is afraid of the scripture passages posted by an old retired truck driver? I never would have guessed.
Why does this take so long, the debate was already aired in March to test audiences - and it was said there will only be a few minor editings. Someone is definitely sitting around and playing with his willy while we are doomed to wait. XD
Hitchens has NEVER been beaten. I wish Wilson well, and he is a great debator himself, but Hitchens is the undisputed champ, he is Muhammad Ali, he is Michael Jordan, he is Wayne Gretzky, he is frickin MOZART on the debate floor
I have watched those and I would agree Craig does very well, better than most others on his own side, but I still see Hitchens as the undisputed winner.
This "Film" might be a snore fest if they debate over same shit over and over...God is real, God is fake bla bla bla. What I want to see is Hitchens breaking out copies of all the death threats he has received from so called religious leaders and compare those to the death threats Wilson has received from atheists if there are any. Expose the hypocrisies and vile attempts at silencing voices of logic by religions. All religions must be mocked, laughed at and labeled correctly as fiction.
...rational and skeptic are contradictory? Rational refers to anything based on or consistent with logic and reason... skepticism can be defined as trusting in nothing but indisputable facts and logical/intellectual arguments which have a sound and indisputable grounding in concrete fact. How can anyone consider these to be contradictory?
Douglas Wilson is not a Christian. He is a proponent of the heresy of Federal Vision, which teaches that man is justified by faith and works. This is Roman Catholic soteriology.
Gary Demar is supporting Wilson in this venture, and James White is now associating with Gary Demar (taking pleasure cruise/seminars as advertised on his Alpha and Omega website).
Take your Federal Vision/Van Tilian nonsense back to the Roman Catholic Church where it belongs. Vipers like you could care less what John Calvin or Gordon H. Clark taught, for such vipers support Catholic dogma, not Calvinism.
Indeed I have. Every PCA church in my area adopted justification-by-faith-and-works, and they did so publicly, just as soon as Joe Morecraft published his "Call To Repentance."
Doug Wilson, his followers, and let us not forget his evil denomination known as C.R.E.C., are not Christianns.
What does this have to do with anything from this clip? Everything you say may be true but if you want to attack Wilson from this post you must attack the Transcendental Argument for God. Do you think Luther's argument against the Catholic Church was rotten because of his disdain for the Jews? Stay on task RedBeetle!
My objections to Wilson in this debate are relevant, for Wilson claims to be a representative of Calvinism, but he is not. Wilson's theology is opposed to Calvinism, he had to create his own denomination (C.R.E.C.) in order to safely maintain his heresy. Other defrocked men, like R.C. Sproul Jr. have been flocking to C.R.E.C. ever since.
He is not a presuppositionalist, for he holds to the "transcendental argument." This faulty argument places him in the evidentialist camp--by definition!
Van Til and Bahnsen claimed to be presuppositional, but then gave arguments for God's existence--contradicting their original claim. Presuppositionalists, by definition, argue not for God's existence
Van Til claimed the classical arguments were valid in "some" sense, though he NEVER explained.
Arguing God exists from the impossibility from the contrary (Van Til's transcendental argument) is absurd, for contraries can both be false. Van Til and Bahnsen didn't understand basic logic.
This comment might be a little more helpful if the author would explain why an educated person would not make such a statement, especially since this comment implies that the entire intellectual establishment of the church for (approximately) the last 1600 years has held this view and for much of that time held a monopoly on literature and education in Western Chistendom.
You mean like how rabid evolutionists exercise "faith" to "explain" the universe's origins (e.g. like Dawkins did with ben stein--oh, that was very convincing to all thinking and sentient persons!)? If so, I see your point. Maybe you can define "faith" and "fact" for us. And as you do so, be careful not to beg the very questions you accuse Wilson et al. of begging.
"evolutionists excercise "faith" to "explain" the universe's origins"
Are you simple? Evolution says nothing of the origins of the universe, hell you arent even in the right field. Evolution is related to biology and genetics, not astronomy. Then again we all know what a towering masterpiece Ben Stein's "film" was dont we (snickering)?
"Basically, debate like this.... ":) Finally we`ll see something worthwhile in the Youtube. Hitchens is really intelligent man, no doubt about that (love his honesty!), but Wilson has the answers the chosen ones are looking for :)
I like debates about religion, apart from the question of deity. In a debate about religion a more textured perspective emerges, for instance, consider the diversity of idol worship in the world: from the crucifix and the virgin mother to tabloid magazines and B-Movie Icons; the biographies of saints and great men? In the commandment not to worship idols an easy one to follow? Of course not! In fact Aristotle recommends that we cobble together our ideal for ourselves by consecrating great lives.
what makes a debate about religion more worthwhile than this debate? How are debates about religion and debates to prove existence of God so different?
These debates are pointless and stupid. You can NOT provide any evidence for the existence of any deities. Now if you want to debate where religion provides worthwhile traditions and culture... that is a different story.
I'm pretty sure its about whether religion does the world any good or not. Debating gods existence is a futile gesture, no proof for it, but they think that their hypothesis (unlike all others) deserves to be assumed true until disproven.
You are partially correct. Because a god would be, by definition, metaphysical and outside the bounds of the Universe, it could not be tested or in any way understood by science. (C.S. Lewis made this point about fifty years ago.) Because of this, the existence of God can be neither proven nor disproven scientifically. In debates like these, science should only be mentioned when looking into a particular aspect of religion.
it's a really good piece of music to put to it actually. really gives it some edge. i hope they don't go overkill on that style in the documentary though
What gives this debate validity is the rap-music soundtrack. Deep philosophical arguments mean nothing if not accompanyied by some serious head-banging music. Rock on!
Thanks foucachon, his conclusion would seem somewhat incompatible with scripture. God came down pretty harshly on Ramses, the Egyptian, now was that for the enslavement itself or his treatment of slaves or was it for Ramses worshiping a false idol. Supposing Moses had become pharoah and gave more grain to the slaves would it have then been ok for him to have god's people enslaved. Just throwing that out there.
It has been re-published recently as "Dark and Tan" by Canon Press.
People have distorted what he has said. He was saying something more to the effect that it was possible for there to be an owner of slaves who was a compassionate godly man, and who treated his "slaves" more like family. This was very common, even if slavery is a horrible institution. Think "The Patriot" and their servants (who in reality would have been slaves). Doug Wilson is, *of course*, completely anti-slavery.
I love Hitchens, but I am tired of hearing him talk about religion. I completely agree with his point of view. But that's why I'm bored with it. Seems ever since his book came out, I hear about little else from him.
...and I highly doubt anyone ever "owned" Hitchens, ha.
He is the author of several books that have responded to atheists, and an able debater. I have heard him debate at least one atheist, and have a few of his books on the subject. I think you can agree that Hitchen's has a formidable foe in Wilson. The only thing he lacks is a British accent.
Death and suffering is a consequence of our rebellion against God Genesis says. I now know that death came before "Adam". The real truth about our origins is that for 200,000 years years at least, human beings have died early by the age of 25, from starvation, microbes, child labor, and dentition. So now we have agriculture for the last 30,000 years, and we have scientific knowledge that has given us medicines against microbes.
"Death and suffering are a consequence of our rebellion against god"......sounds like we have another falwell emulator. I wonder if he thinks 9/11 was the end result of too much homosexuality as well.
Yeah, we all know that death and suffering have nothing to do with God but are in fact the consequence of randomness and nothingness. Who are those Christians to think that life and death have meaning and purpose?
A devout Christian would be a hypocrite to claim that he has notions that life and death have purpose. Christian doctrine dictates that this life is meaningless save for the giving of glory to God-- we were created sick, born condemned, and then commanded to be well and to spend a lifetime praying forgiveness for our God given afflictions. THAT is true meaninglessness. I much prefer the notion that this life is more than just a test, and that my life will be as valuable as I make it.
ayesee, to be fair Christians believe that God created them good (Gen 1:31) and that the afflictions were self afflicted wounds. For them Christ is needed to fix what they broke (not God). In other words, in the Christian worldview, we become fully human (with meaningful lives, purpose, and direction) when we follow the one that made us.
But we all know that only a goofball would follow such ideas of creation and Creator. Randomness and purposelessness is where it is at, right?
To be fair, Christians believe that God created them to be mindless sloths whom did nothing but gorge themselves in the Garden of Eden and were content to be totally ignorant of the world around them. For daring to eat from the tree of knowledge came a form of celestial McCarthyism that dictated that the child should bear the sins of their mother and father. The former life of slovenly ignorance is just as meaningless as a life dedicated to repenting for the sins of people you've never met.
The truth? You obviously know nothing about evolution when you state that we are all just random products of it. Every religious person such as your self claims they' followthe correct formof christianity. Yes, what Ayesee said is for themost partcorrect - the only thing he didnt do was say it the way you "wanted" it said. Obviously it sounds negative, but thats exactly what christianity is. The tree of knowledge was not correct? What else do you think that meant? You don't believe in orig sin?
Yes, let's imagine a nonsensical father figure to explain things by magic. Extremely useful. As useful as it was with Zeus and Ra. If you believe God created you, how do you explain the 199.9 billion other sperm shot in your dad's wad?
I totally agree. Who the hell do they think they are. They write off everything as God's will so they don't have to take responsibility for their own actions.
Death and suffering indeed have nothing to do with God... or the tooth fairy for that matter. Death and suffering are a consequence of our rebellion against each other. If anything the notion of God helps with the death and suffering. Just say its the lords will that someone dies, and that makes it okay. Gotta love religion!!!!
Actually, he would probably say that our rampant sexual sin is God's judgment already on us, just like Romans 1 says - "Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen." (Romans 1:24-25, ESV)
Whoops... That didn't show up under the other comment. It was in response to the one guy making a crack at him apparently being another "falwell emulator"...
LOL. I think a Wilson supporter said something similar....
Yeah, well. I kinda think that he lost the D'Souza debate, and Like I said, he got smoked in the online debate by Wilson, but maybe that's just my opinion.
I am pleased to see that at least these two behave themselves.
Actually, I think the filmmaker has a Christian bent to him because I saw he did a music video for Demon Hunter, a well-known Christian band. Heads up
yeah automatic win for Hitchens. Because it is so much more likely that lightning hit a mud puddled and life appeared then slowly evolved into humans through punctuated equilibrium and mutation than it is that there might be a Creator. Game over.
Wshurtli, the fact that you've bought into the "death match" framing just proves that you and your ilk could never win a debate, so you turn it into a fist fight. Imbecile.
I don't care how many shots of helicopters you use, how often you use slo-mo over rap music, or how many jump-cuts you can cram into a 60-second add, it's still a debate. This add makes it look like it's going to be a Michael Bay movie.
Hitchens is the fucking man and he can easily out-debate anyone...this looks like an interesting doc. It's not something you see much and I admire its uniqueness. Hopefully it'll be entertaining.
Hitchens is one of my favorite writers, and a master of debate. I'm not familiar with Mr. Wilson but i hope he provides for better sport than Dinesh d'Souza or Schmuley Boteach did, those were absolute massacres in Hitchens' favor. Should be a good watch, and your video is well done, bravo sir.
Yeah thats what i was afraid of. It is an intellectual boxing match and the religious start with one had tied behind their back. Hopefully he wont bring the same old shit to the table that the others do.
There is no fair debate against this braiwashed religious nutcase. Its a push-over for Hitchens. No intelligent person believes in angels, miracles, virgin births and an eternal afterlife with an imaginary magic boss in the sky.

Can the whole debate be found somewhere ?

"Death and suffering are a consequence of our rebellion against god"......sounds like we have another falwell emulator. I wonder if he thinks 9/11 was the end result of too much homosexuality as well.
heyoooooooo0 3 years ago
Yeah, we all know that death and suffering have nothing to do with God but are in fact the consequence of randomness and nothingness. Who are those Christians to think that life and death have meaning and purpose?
WillS1111111 3 years ago
A devout Christian would be a hypocrite to claim that he has notions that life and death have purpose. Christian doctrine dictates that this life is meaningless save for the giving of glory to God-- we were created sick, born condemned, and then commanded to be well and to spend a lifetime praying forgiveness for our God given afflictions. THAT is true meaninglessness. I much prefer the notion that this life is more than just a test, and that my life will be as valuable as I make it.
ayesee 3 years ago
ayesee, to be fair Christians believe that God created them good (Gen 1:31) and that the afflictions were self afflicted wounds.
WillS1111111 3 years ago
To be fair, Christians believe that God created them to be mindless sloths whom did nothing but gorge themselves in the Garden of Eden and were content to be totally ignorant of the world around them. For daring to eat from the tree of knowledge came a form of celestial McCarthyism that dictated that the child should bear the sins of their mother and father. The former life of slovenly ignorance is just as meaningless as a life dedicated to repenting for the sins of people you've never met.
ayesee 3 years ago 5
Actually that is not a fair description of Christianity at all.
But who cares about truth when we are all just random products of evolution, right?
WillS1111111 3 years ago
LogicSpeaks 3 years ago
Yes, let's imagine a nonsensical father figure to explain things by magic. Extremely useful. As useful as it was with Zeus and Ra. If you believe God created you, how do you explain the 199.9 billion other sperm shot in your dad's wad?
Kthonix 3 years ago

What's with all this Hitchens automatic winning? They already had an internet debate and Hitchens got stomped.
Hethrin 3 years ago
It's HITCH, BITCH!
lol jk I just love saying that for some reason.
I have never seen Hitchens lose a debate (and I have seen many, many of them).
The only time anyone seems to get some ground is if they catch him on time. Because we all know that is his kryptonite!!
That Dinesh D'souza debate was hilarious.
TousVous 3 years ago
LOL. I think a Wilson supporter said something similar....
Yeah, well. I kinda think that he lost the D'Souza debate, and Like I said, he got smoked in the online debate by Wilson, but maybe that's just my opinion.
I am pleased to see that at least these two behave themselves.
Hethrin 3 years ago
Actually, I think the filmmaker has a Christian bent to him because I saw he did a music video for Demon Hunter, a well-known Christian band. Heads up

HITCHENS DOESNT STAND A CHANCE!!!

the music sounds like some failed attempt at melding classical indian music with metal with rap.
btw, I think Hitchens should act in a spy movie of some kind, his personality would work well.
ballersack 3 years ago 2
Maybe just make a movie about Hitchens adventures... starring Russell Crowe at Hitchens hahaha.

Hi, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could tell me the name of this track in a reply. It's pretty serious.
MononofuBlood says Wilson is a creationist? Oh fuck. Hitchens, automatic win :D
19AFS91 3 years ago
yeah automatic win for Hitchens. Because it is so much more likely that lightning hit a mud puddled and life appeared then slowly evolved into humans through punctuated equilibrium and mutation than it is that there might be a Creator. Game over.
WillS1111111 3 years ago
Hard to tell if you're being coy or not.

when is this out

Wilson rocks! I think this looks awesome. Hitchens doesn't stand a chance.
wshurtli 3 years ago
Wshurtli, the fact that you've bought into the "death match" framing just proves that you and your ilk could never win a debate, so you turn it into a fist fight. Imbecile.
cinenutz 3 years ago
My 'ilk'? 'Imbecile'. You cut me cinenutz. That's it, I'm becoming an atheist - they all seem so happy.
wshurtli 3 years ago
fist fight....right....
Hethrin 3 years ago
I don't care how many shots of helicopters you use, how often you use slo-mo over rap music, or how many jump-cuts you can cram into a 60-second add, it's still a debate. This add makes it look like it's going to be a Michael Bay movie.

charlatanfilms: Can´t we just all hope this starts a new genre of Rock¨n roll debate? I´m so buying the t-shirt :D
PS: would like to know the artist and track also, even if its not Rock or Roll :)

who wants a sneak peak of a debate! Pull this link off your website Hitch. I just wasted 3mins of my time!

Hitchens is the fucking man and he can easily out-debate anyone...this looks like an interesting doc. It's not something you see much and I admire its uniqueness. Hopefully it'll be entertaining.

does anyone know what the music track is called? its such an awesome song.
MistytheCat123456 3 years ago
Yay!
I love Douglas Wilson!!! You should hear his evolution song. It's on his website. I forget what it's called.
"Don't worry! You have meaning in life! You have opposable thumbs!"
threehappypenguins 3 years ago
Hitchens is one of my favorite writers, and a master of debate. I'm not familiar with Mr. Wilson but i hope he provides for better sport than Dinesh d'Souza or Schmuley Boteach did, those were absolute massacres in Hitchens' favor. Should be a good watch, and your video is well done, bravo sir.
JACKtheRIPP3R189 3 years ago 3
He will be, don't worry...lol.
Hethrin 3 years ago
JACKtheRIPP3R,
He won't. The man is a creationist; this debate was over before it even begun.
MononofuBlood 3 years ago
Yeah thats what i was afraid of. It is an intellectual boxing match and the religious start with one had tied behind their back. Hopefully he wont bring the same old shit to the table that the others do.

Two great minds. Should be good!

Nothing cracks me up as much as the shot of Wilson talking on his cellphone in the car, looking like a mob boss. Well, maybe the helicopter scene.
