I have some distant Sephardic (And Berber) Jewish ancestry. I bear the surname "Azulay" (I know the meaning) which has other forms of being spelled and said... depending on which country you are in. I have been trying to study my ancestry, but I am still unsure If it is from Morroco or not. A few generations back, my family was in Portugal. I really want to know where exactly it is from so that I have a good answer for when someone asks me about my last name...
I'm a Sephardic. Thank you very much posting this video!!! I wish there were more Sephardic Jews and Sephardic Synagougues in the US. I have no problem with Ashkenazi Jews but with Sephardic Jews I have more to share, like culture, food, histroy etc.
@DenizCaroll Depends what part of the the U.S.A. you're at. Come to downtown Brooklyn and you'll see Sephardi synagogues all over the place. Also in Eastern New Jersey.
I've recently found out I have Sephardi ancestry too. I am fascinated and feel so proud of my ancestors. My original family name was Caravajal. I'd love to learn more about the Sephardim and about Judaism. I take after my Sephardi ancestors too. Even though I am mostly Anglo-Irish, I look Spanish! Hahaha.
@koobie83 Keep in mind that many many Irish are what's called Black Irish (they look like Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, and more). A few years ago I met an Irish dude, pure Irish, and he was telling me that most people thought he was either Italian or Spanish, and while looking at him I could see why.
The Black Irish are descendants of the ancient Picts and Gaels (swarthy, dark-haired peoples with thick eyebrows) long before the blonds and redheads with fair skin came in.
This "history" is mostly correct. Except for the fact that there where many Jewish settlements in the Iberian Peninsula as far back as 800 b.c. That's during King Solomons time. King Solomon's sword was hand-crafted by a Sephardi.
So all this stuff that the Sephardi got to Spain & Portugal in the year 70 a.d. is totally incorrect.
But anyway, great video and we appreciate your efforts with your uploads.
I started to do research on my ancestry, well, come to find out that I have Jewish ancestry. My last name is Aviles, which was originally Avi but was changed to Aviles to confuse our oppressors. My first name means Lion Of God, also a Hebrew name. I am on a mission to know my Jewish roots now but need more info or help in how to do so. Thank you for your info.
@pitolove71 Hey go to Familytreedna com you can test your dna, join projects and groups for free with other jews and see their dna...link ancestors etc its a great site i am a ashkenaz jew and i did it there, we are all connected it is really amazing
see how the ashkeNazim treat the sephardim and know everything. we must not expect that they treat us better than they treat themselves! sometimes jews hate each other more than they hate the "goyim"...
I invite all the Sephardic Jews to come back to Portugal and Spain, where they lived not only from the Roman occupation of Israel, but even before, from the Babylonian invasion. That makes up a Sephardic Jewish presence in Iberia of about 2000 years. Instead of living in a maniac country like Israel, that engages in what Jews in general should have learnt to avoid after the persecutions against them (racism and ethnic cleansing), I invite the Sephardim to reject the Ashkenazim madness in Israel.
@nmgscp do not know what you are talking about. most israeli are sefardie, before the russions came, it was up to 70%. so what the ... you are talking about?
just one thing you said in the vid- there was a slaughter in lisbon-spain... lisbon is not in spain then you continued then the portuguese inkisition started, the inkisition started because the freakin pope wanted the weath the jews had basically and portuguese king protected the jews as long as he could but rome was in charge back then and they were most corrupted organization with lots power, saying no to rome back then would be the death sentence for everyone, france uk would invade kingdom
@WhitesmoothPearls I selected this vid because of a conversation I had with my daughter regarding the differences between A/S. She and I ("pure goyim") are believers in Y'shua - "born again" as you prefer (John 3). She has a passion for Israel, is studying Hebrew, and has recently taught her little ones to read/write the Hebrew alphabet. I have only a cursory knowledge of the differences, but I took care to dispel the increasingly popular artistic trend to portray Y'shua with "Nordic" features.
Certainly no one knows for sure what Y'shua looked like, and to Believers it is not important; however, the efforts to make him appear NON JEWISH (a TV commercial by an American "cult" comes to mind) are reckless and possibly prejudicial. I recently ran across a guy online who praised vocalist Eydie Gorme (one of my teenage heartthrobs) as Sephardic. I knew she was Sephardic, and I sent one of her vids to my daughter to illustrate Sephardic beauty - suggesting that Y'shua had Sephardic features.
Concerning your walk with Y'shua, Cecilia, please take loving advice from an old grandpa. Note how often "dispersed, slave, expulsion, Inquisition etc." are used within the first minute of this vid. This is YOUR heritage - a “gift” from the gangster goyim who appropriated Y'shua for devious political expediency. The antidote for this historical poison is not "Jesus in your face,” or getting involved in A/S family squabbles, it is in the genuine, loving testimony of showing them Y’shua in you:)
Learned from an extensive geneology research that I am of spanish sephard descent and the the dialect my family speaks is the ladino dialect. They now mostly live in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.
Cool! Thank you.. now I know why I use lemon and pine nuts on EVERYTHINGLOL. I'm doing my genealogy right now. I'm Sephardic and also have Greek Jews from the Island of Samos Samos, Greece. It is so cool to do genealogy, I recommend it! It is so beautiful to get to really know your history.
Wrong in 6:48. The first sephardim in Mexico came directly from Spain. They landed as crypto sephardim in Northern Mexico, Texas and New Mexico. Later in 1880s, the greek and arab sephardim started to arraived.
Very good video. Thanks for the uploads.

@MsApegape By the statistics I know, only 20% of Israelis are Sephardic, a lot of other are Mizrahi, and 50% or more are Ashkenazim.
