  • i thought it was a neat little movie....no academy award winner....but one that i could watch over an never get bored..it has an entertaining value to it..

  • Great music LOUSY movie and as Spoony pointed out this movie was directed by the same man who wrote the wing commander universe....how do fuck up a universe that you yourself invented??

  • @Erikjust

    I dunno. Ask George Lucas.

  • @orinanime to be "fair" Lucas only directed and wrote the first of the original. Both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was mainly directed and written by others.

But yes when looking in the hind mirror its clear that Chris Roberts should have stayed in the shadow as either producers or artistic consultant.

  • @orinanime

yes. others helped flesh out the universe he created.

    others directed V and VI

    but they were co-written.

and then he went and fucked up his own universe.

  • THIS might be the music for the OCCUPY WORLDWIDE movement

  • Very nice overture, but still nothing compared to The Fatman's original Wing Commander game overture.

  • Oh if ever a soundtrack deserved a better movie it's this one.

  • Kilrathi cloak torpedo=HACKS!!! That's too cheap . . . even for them.

  • This is truly great! On par with the Robocop theme, the Klendathu Drop, and John WIlliams' various themes. A pity it's the best thing about the movie.

  • The one guy who disliked this, his name must be Todd 'Maniac' Marshall. :)

  • Love the movie, love the tune. Damn all to hell for sinking the game and the movie.

  • i cant find the movie!! i love the song :) aaahh the old days

  • why did our fighters have gatling gun's and the kilrathi laser's-plasma cannons what ever. and i wish they had keeped the big cat theme. what the hell was chris roberts thinking??

  • @brybish They had gatling guns because gatling guns are scientifically proven to be awesome (though they maybe should have stuck with something like a Vulcan cannon...) The Kilrathi costumes were supposedly quite awesome, but the sets for their ships were designed to human proportions, meaning the Kilrathi spent the movie hunched over uncomfortably. Which, really, was kind of a silly mistake to make in production.

  • @Raguleader sorry but this movie was based on the universe created by chris roberts the kilrathi were feline, tigers, hunters ok the bugget was low and i love the movie but it could of been so much more.forget the science you cant beat a good phaser.

  • @brybish While a phaser certainly has advantages in the "bright colors" and "Slicing things into glowy ribbons and waporizing them" departments, old-fashioned kinetic guns just have a certain charm, whether it's the ratatata of a machine gun or the hungry growl of a rotary cannon. :-D

But yes, this movie could have been so much more. I wish they hadn't cut the traitor plot out of the script.

  • Just watched the movie again due to finding this track, loved the movie, love this theme tune, hey the acting was cheesy and typical american heroism but i loved it,

it will remain a classic in my eyes forever.

  • lol i see the poster and i think "scooby doo were are you yes that is the guy from the live action movie

  • @overlordbeelzemon "SCOOBY DOO! WHERE ARE YOU?!" "RI'VE GOT YOUR RING, RAGGIE!"

"Bandits on our six, gang! Split up!"

"Jinkies!" "Velma said Jinkies! She's found a target!"

  • 1 person doesn't have the Admiral's full confidence.

  • How did such a horrible movie get such a great soundtrack?

  • @KurtSlade thank you for posting this. this is one of my favs....

  • Comment removed

  • looks like EVE Online

  • "Zap them with your own sun induced to turn laser. It's the only way to be SURE!"

  • This theme makes you want to jump in a Rapier and take on the whole Kilrathi fleet.

  • ths is the same theme they used for superman:doomsday heh :)

  • know any where i can download it for free w/o a bunch of bullshit ??

  • It's the only good thing about this movie.

  • @saquist

    Amen to that one.

  • movie rocket !

just because it isint avatar material doesnt mean it sux

  • One person is actually a Kilrathi spy.

  • actually we surpassed light speed many many centuries ago or it would be impossible to get around, as you know all points of space have 2 refrence points, imagine a stick pushed through a ball, one side is going in and the other is going out yes, opposite points of determination, so all that is required is the 2 points factored in fold space and you come out of the other end simplisticly put, but that's what it amount to, so you see light speed distance is really walking pace,

  • get with the programe guys, dont worry earth people we are bringing your technical understandings and abilities bit by bit upto grade or you would still be using steam engines, we have to trickle technology into your system very slowly but we shall get you there, after all we need your populace, to fight the aliens out there

  • @Gail940 Then let us fight...! The time has come yet...

  • WOW "REV YOUR ENGINES" there are no mechanical parts in a light speed engine they work off REACTION by the mixing of elements under gravatation distortion, within a reactor, 3rd law The mutual forces of action and reaction between two bodies are equal, opposite a body exerts a force F on a second body, the second body exerts a force −F on the first body. F and −F are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. action-reaction law, with F called the "action" and −F the "reaction" WOW

  • Wow, unbelievable how many movies I found today about WC on youtube. I used to play the whole Wing Commander series when I was younger. Actually, Heart of the Tiger is my favourite one. I watched the movie today and guess what? They filmed it (some parts) inside a warehouse in my village here in little Luxembourg. All scenes of the flight deck which you can see in the movie were made here. Some guys of the film crew (including Prince Jr.) went a couple times to my favourite pub. Good memories!!

  • What Chris Roberts should've done(and I feel real sorry for him seeing that this movie was a big failure) to bring Wing Commander into the film industry was to start off with a TV series and eventually develope it into a movie series. That's pretty much how Star Trek started out. Yes, the games were popular, but not popular enough to be movie worthy.

Other than that, this movie did have a memorable movie score.

  • @infinitlycool

Actually there is a Wing Commander TV series: WC Academy (don't confuse it with the game with the same name) All episodes are on wcnews.

  • @FekLeyrTarg I meant a live-action TV series back then but thanks for the info. :)

  • @infinitlycool

    No problem. :)

  • @infinitlycool What was needed was a script that did not suck.

  • This movie blew so hard. That being said, I have ALWAYS loved the soundtrack seince I first got it back in '99 (Feels kind of weird to say that. Seems like yesterday.)

  • Matthew Lillard & Freddie Prinze Jr voted here.

  • One Kilrathi voted here... :p

  • Fun movie, loved soundtrack.

  • Great soundtrack, not so great movie. But the games were awesome though.

  • i just saw this movie, absolute amazing! I thought it was made in 2007 or something because of the great way its made...

  • @nasiondevasion came out in the late 1990's

  • good theme but not klendathu drop

  • I compare this soundtrack to any thing out there as far as sci-fi movies go.Excellent is an understatement.I fear this is a dying art-The last starfighter theme, even starship troopers has a great score.Ironically all three had open endings making you want more. Now studios cut deals with pop groups or special interest bands for a soundtrack nowadays.A good orchestra can push the movie from good to great.

  • @clntravis batman begins is a good example

  • @clntravis

True, but some particular very good groups can be very effective for trailer and/or soundtrack: check for example Two Steps from Hell, some of their tracks are awesome: Sons of War, 1000 Ships or Peace of Mind.

Anyway according to some rumor in the Internet, in the USA many simphonic orchestra groups are closing due to poor sales into theatres, so present time we must stick to these old classics and pray Obama or his successor could fix things in the future

  • Love, love, love this overture! There were bits of brilliance in the movie itself, but the one consistent point of excellence was the soundtrack. A television series rebooting the franchise would be wise to use this theme! ;-)

  • Well, at least the music didn't suck.

  • there is another wing commander theme but i lost the CD doh! a wing 3 promo i think on a mag-zin cover-disk.

  • movie is on same par as starship troopers in the category of wasted potential... too bad

  • @happierpie Its called a cult film, along the lines of the Boondock Saints and the likes. Its not generally the best movie, but you have fans that love it to death. I personally LOVED the movie a lot. But yes, it does suffer at some points.

  • "I regret that all diplomatic avenues with the Kilrathi have been exausted, it is now clear they have no interest in co-exsisting with us, or with any other race. It is my sad duty to inform you, that as of 6 am this morning we are formally at war with the Kilrathi, may god help us all."

  • @AmericanPoliceState Written beautifully. I never played the games, but I find it sad that some fans hate this movie.

  • @FortuitousTruths Alot of people bitched about how the ships were like submarines..and im thinking..Well friggin duhh..its in space..no air its not like you can pop up on deck and catch some rays from the nearest brown dwarf. (A brown dwarf is a star that didnt quite make it to a true star level) Besides its a movie even though the special effects were old it was still entertaining.

  • @AmericanPoliceState I actually loved the fact they were like subs, I think its probably what its realistically supposed to look like.

  • @AmericanPoliceState :

Indeed, but you have to remember that space is not the same as water, which actually has a resistance. It is entirely possible to create designs that would never work under the sea yet have the same "detection and targeting" evasion as subs have under water while looking nothing like it (or behaving that way). In a way ship combat is probably the most similar...

  • @AmericanPoliceState There's also another more realistic thing you forgot to mention: The Jump Points.

From what I know, it's not physically possible to rev your engines high enough to go into light speed or warp speed like you see in Star Wars and Star Trek. What you see here in this movie is the ships using wormholes to get to another place in the galaxy. Before then, we wouldn't really know where these wormholes lead to, but with the Pilgrims they were able to map out star charts.

  • i have seen this move over and over, in 3 different languages. i played the games. i do not compare the movie to the game. i say the movie is like its own and not a game adaptation. if you look at it how i look at it then u should probably see that this movie is very good.

  • @greegry hellz yeah

  • I like the movie, though is nothing like the games, but is a good movie,I dont understand why people talks shit about it, maybe is becuase they dont understand

  • I love this movie I just wish they would have made a second movie.

  • The movie had such wasted potential.

  • @gasdfw5 Never heard of them. I guess I'll look for them in a bookstore.

  • i have this :D

  • IMHO the movie left quite a lot to be desired, but if the Roberts brothers do know one thing like hardly anybody else it´s putting a great soundtrack into their creations (listen to the game "Conquest").

  • One of the most bombastic, militaristic scores ever! No pretense at art, just lots of noise...! EPIC

  • The film was cheap, and ok,

This was easily the best thing, epic tune!

  • wasn't there an animated Wing Commander series at some point?

  • Well, maybe it's okay compared to other Game to Film adaptations, as those usually turn out badly (even worse then Film to Game adaptations *g*)...

But as a fan of the game/s, I can only say this movie stinks! The ships look completely different, the story is different (just added some random Dune ripoff in the middle of it), they didn't even get some of the names right, like with the ship.

The soundtrack is okay, though. Maybe a little bland, but overall, it's good.

  • @Herbarius

Actually if you look closely the Confed ships look a lot like the ones in the game (the capital ships not the fighters), just a little sleeker to fit the "modern" look.

I hated the design of the Rapiers, the Broadswords looked alright.

  • FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @B5starfurry

I couldn't say where the series should start because I'm not overly familiar with Wing Commander mythology. However I understand that it's a rich enough universe that a show could be based somewhere.

The primary determinant of a show's success is the quality of the writing and the conflicts presented. A good premise alone can't carry a show, and in the case of wing commander, there is certainly enough material for a proper story arc.

  • @B5starfurry

Didn't they do stargate? I'm not particularily a huge SG fan, but it was quite successful.

  • Liked the movie, loved this Overture. Every one else thinks of the fighter, I think of the ships moving in formation.

The whole sub-style of warfare makes total sense in space when you realize most combat will happen at beyond visual ranges. Who would need a viewport when the enemy isn't close enough to see.

  • @Sargonarhes

That's true. I'm actually a hoping to be published Sci-Fi writer and when ever I write a battle scene it's conducted like a sub-battle. I got the idea from THIS movie.

But that concept only applies to starships. Starfighters would still engage each other (and attack big ships) at visual range, however starfighters like in Wing Commander aren't really that viable in space. More likely they'd look something like Starfuries from B5.

  • love that base drum

  • It has its flaws, but is also definitely underrated IMO. I personally like the story arc with Earth being in danger, reminds me of Freespace, though I don't remember which one I saw first ...

  • My SciFi Brethren: The movie was fun albeit a little kitchy (The ships were right out Buck Rogers, the one with Buster Crabbe, not Gil Gerrard). The music powerful and fit the mood. What begs the larger question is why the SciFi channel has not grabbed this franchise and run with it. It has a guaranteed story arc of at least 5-6 years. Get a good team of writers together and this could be golden. Move over Battlestar.

  • nice upload but I miss track 13 - The Gift / Skipper Missile in the playlist... all in all a underrated movie which I like alot. Chris Roberts brought some feelings into the cold space and the soundtrack accompony that in a great way.

  • Best opening theme ever made

  • i love this music, its like the daydream type of music

  • EPIC battle music! Makes you wanna jump in a fighter and blow 'em all away!

  • OMFG THANK YOU :D

Can Anyone send me a link to download the soundtrack to the Movie Please!!!1

  • I love this theme song!

  • I was a bit disappointed by the movie, especially by playing Wing Commander 3 and 4 to death which I found better.

But I DO like the opening music, too bad they don't do that anymore in modern films :s

  • hah, sweet!

    love this song :)

  • Thanks for the upload!!!! I'd love to have this song play every time my garage door goes up hahaha

  • lmao. Do you like drive the batmobile or something? Maybe a DeLorean? Either way would take too long but funny hehe.

  • a really good movie. It just got bed critics because they used different types of ideas (e.g. bullets and different sound) and realistic space ships but everybody likes laser so the movie was bad

  • It was actually very realistic space battle...but guess the reason why it got bad reviews is that it was that it looked too much like WW2 sub-fight:(

    But the movie was great

  • The interesting part about that, Dalbert, is that Wing Commander gets dissed for being like a "sub-fight" but Star Trek follows a similar style of battle and doesn't get dissed for it. I liked this style of battle. Felt more realistic.

  • OMG thank you. Sadly this was probably the best part of the movie. Thanks for uploading it

  • BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR AGES!!! Thx!

  • Thanks guys :)

  • Awesome, thanks for uploading :) I love the movie and the music aswell :D

  • Awesome! I've been looking for this song for ages now!!! Thanks for uploading!
