Prior to being cast as Lt. Uhura in Star Trek, Nichols was a guest actress on television producer Gene Roddenberry's first series, The Lieutenant.

Gene wanted Nicole around cuz they were getting it on.

Nichelle Nichols is such a wonderful singer and actress. She is such a role-model for me, and an inspiration. Her autobiography was an amazing read. She is so talented but had to fight so hard to be treated fairly. She is a huge inspiration.

I read her autobiography many years ago she and Gene Roddenberry were lovers for many years right up until he married the woman who played Nurse Chapel.

I wish the young Uhura in the new Star Trek movie was more like Nichelle!

They did a great job with all the other actors looking and acting like the characters that inspired them, but Zoe Saldana doesn't look like her or act like her. Nichelle's Uhura could fight, sing and had cunning. I didn't see any of Nichelles essence in Zoe's role.

Too bad they didn't do her justice!

I disagree. Gene Roddenberry had to fight to get a black woman the role of Uhura on the original series, & he was very aware of her talents & beauty. She got the role, but she wasn't allowed to be the sexy one or the one all the men wanted. She was more secretly sexy. Z. Saldana is perfect for the new Uhura. She's beautiful, sexy, can play the intellectual & she's no pushover. I think they are doing belated justice to the Uhura character by finally making her(a black woman) the object of desire.

She sang in an episode of Star Trek season 1 and it was chillingly good. Wish they used more of her talents and I agree with Tugabee who suggested she be in a Tyler Perry movie. That'd be a great idea. Of course she was great as the villain in Truck Turner too.

"Mister Buddwing" needs to be released on DVD something serious. I've been waiting for that to happen for quite a long time now, but apparently no one has taken a bite. It's unfortunate, too, because it's quite a delightfully-weird film.

There are no clips of the film on Youtube, either, which is also a bummer. Thanks to TCM and such places, we're able to see such lovely rarities.
