Formerly part-nationalised, the company was sold off at a rock bottom price and liquidated despite a zealous and impassioned program of industrial activity, strike action and campaigning. Bertha, despite being lovely, was stripped of all especially sophisticated components (which were sold to a German factory), and then scrapped, later molten down to make cheap cutlery and drill bits.
