Great lesson. Definately one of my favorites so far.
I have a question, in Japan if you're a woman and some pervert is harassing you in a train, how should you react? I mean, here in Brazil all it would take was for the woman to yell "pervert" and he would be kicked out of the train in the next station.
wohoho...i like it when u add up english subtitle for each point he saying. And Vic, i keep wanted to ask u this long time ago, actually. Where did u get or who create yr gimmeabreakman theme song??sounds cool everytime u do the intro !!
I think the lesson needs more spoken Japanese. It's great having the Japanese subs but there is all this distracting English blather coming from the vblogger.
Atomicboyx is right, CandianInJapan. Originally I was only going to teach the JANEIYO at the end... but while editing I thought it would be useful to teach some of the simple (and not so simple) things that Gregorio/Atomicboyx was saying.
But in the future I can't see why I couldn't use someone's Japanese vlog too!
If there is room step aside and let him fall over....but if the train is really packed solid, saying that will just make you look like the bad gaijin. rather than have him elbow you in the back, swivel around and see if he has the nerve to do it to your chest....and then say 何やってんの? (naniyattenno?) = WTF are you doing? Complaining of being pushed on a crowded train won't win you any support on a packed train but having him explain what the F he is doing may be better....
I tryed to use this on my wife when she pushed past me a couple of weeks ago & she cracked up. I mispronounced it & said, "I'm not a middle aged man" lol
押すじゃねいよ、てめえを殺せー
is this better xD ?>

I always get confused with the "~janai" pattern:
coz sometimes it would be like a question or it could be -ve
eg: "ii janai/janeyo" here does it mean "not good" or "isn't it good?"
I'm i making any sense?

You look fabulously stunning in the wig.
great lesson

I thought it'd be 押すんじゃないよ or 押すんじゃないで??
synterlu 2 years ago
Yes, on the first one. Isn't that what I wrote?
And no on the second one.
The negative would be
押さないで!
Gimmeaflakeman 2 years ago
thank you!
well I wrote じゃない and in your video ( 3:04 ) you write じゃねい, but you wrote it several times so I suppose it's correct
synterlu 2 years ago
I wrote both. Both versions exist. JANEI is more slangy.
Gimmeabreakman 2 years ago
But I never wrote
押すんじゃないで
Right?

That's funny advice, but you know what, I'll bet it would also be effective XD. Good comment.

that was very good for me! i liked the translating of his sentences as he went, so it was like learning real live conversation.... kind of.... lol

"Step back, son" in English won't work? Isn't it tone that conveys emotion the most in our daily encounters with strangers, regardless of language?
And that wig at the end.... lol
watcher8o 2 years ago
actually i said, WHAT THE FUCK, but that wasnt in this edited version, its in the original rant vlog
atomicboyx 2 years ago
Yeah! Check the links, watcher8o! Gregorio's original rant was a great rant. (I'm one of the few people who thinks a rant can be artistic).

LOL. That was really funny at parts, yet surprisingly helpful.
押すんじゃねいよ (Osunjaneiyo)
that seems like a pretty rude thing to say, but of course sometimes that's necessary.
Is there a way to say "Don't push me." in a more polite manner while still getting the person too back up?
