My husband is Cherokee and Choctaw. His sisters taught me how to make fry bread. I use 2 cups of flour mixed with a teaspoon salt and a teaspoon sugar. I get a cup of warm water in a measuring cup and put in one package of the quick rise yeast. When it is dissolved, I mix it with the flour and add a couple of tablespoons of oil. I add water or flour to get good dough consistency. I let sit for about 30 minutes and then I shape and fry in oil. They always turn out really good.
@Barbarainnc 1 cup all purpose flour,1 teaspoon baking powder,1/8 teaspoon salt,1/3 cup hot water, oil for frying, got this out of my new cookbook,a recipe for fry bread
In mexico for us this fry bread is buñuelos... And we add cinnamon and sugar or drizzle some kind of honey made from sugar cane cinnamon their delicious!
Looks realllllly good, however, that many people in the kitchen while I'm cooking would drive me completely NUTS I would feel very claustrophobic . AHHHH EVERYBODY GET OUTTTT NOWWWWW !!!!!
It is so awesome that we haven't forgotten of our culture. Mexican also make this bread. Don't hate us for that we also have Indian blood in us. It's a darn shame that kids want to eat pizza and burgers nowadays.
