it comes with the making of an "advertising machine" yes, youtube has become too mainstream. We should all just go to vimeo or something similar. On the other hand, if you can't beat them, join them. I made $256 on Google AdSence last year, and was not really trying.

My absence in youtube lately is partially because they took away the feature that would pre-load all the video if you just paused it. It seems they fixed that, so i can once again watch videos on my slow connection by loading 10 or so and pausing them all then coming back in an hour.

I found a search engine called scroogle that even has a link to emailing the U.S Justice Department so you can complain about Google. They are already being looked into for anti competitive activities by a congressional committee. If they start asking for personal info I'm gone, even though I haven't posted any videos. If they want to run ads, fine, but I am not disclosing any personal details, it's bad enough that I keep getting a pop up ad for a local idiot politician.

i have noticed in the last few weeks the frequency of ads on Youtube has really gone nuts! It's gone from occasional to every second video having an ad. Unfortunately this has rendered things like playlists of music virtually non-functional as you end up with more ads than you'd even get on commercial TV or radio now... Sucks huh... time to find an alternative to Youtube I think..

The ads are so annoying. Especially the ones you can't skip, such as that Heinken one that crops up everywhere at the moment.

I agree with you 100%. I NEVER watch ads. I always X them out. They're annoying as hell. I think it's adsurd that youtube is also forcing everybody to have thoes shitty new channel designs. Hey man I hear ya. But YouTube is the biggest upload site around so we really have no other options. I hate when they change things around too and giving them a phone number is something I don't want to do. The ads do totally suck but they do need the revenue to keep up the site & all the people who run the thing, so I understand them too. Calm down dude, you're gonna split a gut. I've been wokring on a novel and I have a backup loaded on mis-Fortunecity.Since I surf the 'net with an old Mac and with scripting turned off I didn't see what the page looked like in Windows till recently when I got a not-as-old laptop. I use AdBlockPlus to block the ads, I don't even see them but yeah, if I see stuff advertised on youtube I make a mental note not to buy it because their stupid ad pissed me off! man great speech! I wish I could do stuff like that you were great!

YouTube is already targeting us with ads. They've been doing that for years now. They track what kind of videos you watch and what you search for on Google, and then use that to pick which ads to display. For example if you search for Ford trucks, you'll see an ad for a Ford dealer. This has been going on since at least 2008, so it's nothing new!

@OldTimeForties Videos containing copyrighted material will usually display ads. As long as they are letting us freely share their copyrighted material, I think seeing an ad or two is an acceptable compromise.

I'd much rather have an ad or two instead of WMG's asinine approach of muting the audio of the whole video, however these ads have been appearing on videos without any music in the background and without a partnership. I hate the new channel layout, it's not an upgrade in any way, it's a DOWNgrade, and there's no way I'll give away any personal information to google, I'll just give them all fake info, I dont know why the ads don't just say "we put a stupid advertisment here to get you to buy lots of pointless shit you don't even need so buy our crap!", becuase that's all it is, crap. OMG! I know exactly what you mean about all this shit! I hate all the stupid ads and the ads with audio you can't get rid of while you surf the net because I too listen to music while online from my itunes. I agree with you 100%. I absolutley hate the changes that have been made to YouTube recently and I do not like the new layouts at all. But seriously....does this kind of stuff really throw you off that much? It's a website. Put that kind of passion into real life and you'll find that YouTube making changes is not the end of the world. Anything that you do not have 100% ownership and control over could disappear tomorrow with no notice. Have a life to fill the space and it's no big deal.
