I REMEMBER RIDIN THIS WHEN I WAS FIVE OR SIX ALL I REMEMBER IS GOING UP AND THEN CLOSING MY EYES BEING ALL SCARED ABOUT GOING DOWN THOSE WERE GOOD TIMES CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THERE DOING TO THE LAND THAT THE COASTER USE TO BE ON
Wow, this is interesting footy....We love that this has a new home on the waterfront...I have been on this all summer, worth a dollar everytime...Corey in G.B.
Great video, I've been tracking the progress on the second coming of the Zippin Pippin at Bay Beach in Green Bay, Wisconsin, a happier occasion than this one. Anyone who wants to follow the construction progress can visit zippinpippin.blogspot.com
this is sad hello my name is chris i'm from jackson tn as a kid growing up every year i went to Libertyland memphis why!!!!!!! did you let this happen you took the fun out of the city... and you ask why memphis tn has So Much CRIME... NO AMUSEMENT PARK . NO PRO WRESTLING MEMPHIS FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was excited at first that we were getting a coaster, as the nearest thrill park for me is a 5 hour drive. Now I am beyond stoked that we are getting a major part of history! I am very saddened by the fact there are such historical monuments being demolished in Memphis. Hopefully Green Bay, WI will make Memphis proud that we're keeping part of LibertyLand's history/legacy alive!!!
I searched videos on the Zippin Pippin because I am excited to welcome the ride to Bay Beach in Green Bay, WI. Once I heard that it was Elvis' favorite ride and he was on it just days before his death, I had to learn more as I am a HUGE Elvis fan. This video really touched me because this is part of Memphis' history and it seems it was forgotten about by those in governmental authority. It will continue it's legacy, just at a new home...
I visited Libertyland for the 1st time after my sixth grade year. Our band class made this trip. Me and a gal friend of mine rode this 16 times in a row. This is very sad. I only made the trip to Libertyland 3 times but always had intentions in going before it closed. Thank you for this video. I still want to drive to Memphis and see for myself what is left. I live in Red Bay, Alabama.
I remember the very first time I road the Pippin. I was 8 and it was during a summer camp field trip. I was so scared of it up until then and it quickly became my favorite ride. Even visiting Coney Island and riding the Cylone the supposed "Best Wood Ride." Couldn't touch the Pippin. I hate I couldn't share the opprotunity with my children and it saddens me to see an empty field where it should rightfully be. Whats worse is that it only sold for $25,000. We could have raised that easily.
not all hope is lost for the coaster. it was just confirmed that bay beach in green bay WI is going to buy the Zippin Pippin for $25,000, restore it and get it running again
@crusaderpat Green Bay approved it's relocation by a by a 7-4 vote the official groundbreaking for the Zippin Pippin's new location in Green Bay happened on August 25, 2010
I, one who is rarely sad, am very heartbroken by this. The Zippin Pippin was the first roller coaster ride of my life. A truly legendary piece of Memphis history!
So sad. I drive that area every weekend with my son for percussion lessons. I took my son every summer to Liberty Land and to see it demolished like that with such little regard.....
i'm so glad you captured the last of the zippin pippin. i tried to sneak in a few times to get some pics but it didn't work. even asked nice...once... i was so dissapointed when i came back to memphis and realized i couldn't relive my first roller coaster experience (along with the strange feeling of my head bobbling off my neck).
Mr. Brewer, I'm not sure how you do it, but you do it well. Just the way you even captured this video: Sad topic, Gloomy Day, The other shots of the dilapidated coliseum and dark sky..you are a true artist....keep it up
thanks y'all for documenting this..one of my earliest memories is the excitement of going to the fairgrounds with my family just for something fun to do..such great rides.. The Pippin, the Old Mill, the Carousel & the "Walkin' Charlies"...fantastic!
