Considering the pressure the rookies are under these days, Gordon would have probably been fired with all the crashes he had. Different time, patient owner and one of the greatest drivers ever to drive a stock car...once he figured it out and got rid of the mustache lol.
@racingfanTS20 JPM won at Sonoma in 2007, Regan Smith had his one-off threat to win at Dega in 08, and Logano got a win with a different strategy last year; other than that, there hasn't been much noise made by Cup rookies since Denny Hamlin in '06. I think we all got used to guys like Stewart, Johnson, Newman, and Hamlin, who were instant title contenders, that our general perception of rookies made us hold them to an unusually high standard.
This is probably why jeff now drives a tigher setup then most drivers.
