  • There's just way more to a Saleen then there is to a Roush. Ive looked at both and ended up taking the Saleen home because it isn't just a kit car that somebody bolted a bunch of parts to. Its a completely different car. Saleens build quality outdoes roush anyday, even if Roush can get a couple tenths of a second more on the track.

  • I got a 427r with vmp 500hp kit longtubes/port polish heads and cams. 510 at tires with only 8 pounds of boost!!!.

  • the variation in performance figures is VERY minimal. figuring driver error these cars are both about evenly matched. they are both high dollar blown 'stangs with altered suspension, brakes, and bodies. all depends what your taste is.

  • Both cares sick. It is however sad that the Saleen has a tighter suspension, puts down 30 more horsepower, weighs 300 pounds less, cost $10,000.00 more, AND is actually SLOWER than the Roush. I've also heard that Saleen is a pain in the ass to deal with for warranty issues and typically have mechanical issues. Not to talk bad about Saleen, but it is what it is.

  • A big part of any car competition is the drivers. Plus anyone read the info, they put ROUSH in bold and first, they say Saleen 's counterpart... I think it might be a little bias. Especially the way he talks about the Saleen in the video.

  • @whytezombie torque band and tire grip make alot in how "powerful" a car is. You can also see that the Roush recorded better 0-60 than the lighter more hp saleen. Probably because of the same reasons.

  • I'd still rather have the saleen, and if you have a Roush don't think you can beat a saleen. They tested the high end Roush and the lower end Saleen. true the Saleen cost more but a higher end will kill a Roush

    427R is NOT the high-end Roush...it is the low-end of the supercharged variants. Thhe Stage 3 is the high end of the small supercharger equipped Roushes, and that would be the the P-51A and B if you want to compare to the Saleen Extreme.

    A P-51 will smoke a Saleen extreme, too.

  • both cars are really good, Roush did copy saleen to a T, but they now make a great car. (Only really difference being Saleen's have CRAZY Race victories, from Lemans 24hr /ALMS GT1 & 2/ manufacturing champions ships up the wazzo etc etc etc. Roush mustangs havent achieved Real track status yet.) Company wise, Roush is alot more accessable, Saleen built mustangs, S7,Vipers,Ford GT's even the camaro concept car in trnzfrmz, so customer support was typically terrible!.

  • By the Specs. the Saleen should be better, maybe the driver just sucked, but every mustangs that comes off the assembly line is different some stock engines push more, some less.

  • Thats exactly what i was thinking, but i found a pic of the power band for both, and the Roush's is extremely broad and is said to spin up alot faster.

  • it's gearing i think, the standard gear in the s281 is a 3.31 gear but the roush comes with 3.73 gear

  • The Supercharger is part of the car when it leaves the factory and the ZR1 has a supercharger on it to and the 2010 GT500 owns the 2010 Camaro SS, The Supersnake owns the ZR1 end of story.

  • but a supersnake is a least 15-20 grand more that a ZR1 CORVETTE. and no the ZR1 and 750 supersnake both run a 10.8 stock. and there you go talkiing about the gt500 with 114hp more and only hits 12.5's while the SS runs 12.9's. so no these gt500s are not impressive for the price they sell at. hell the gt500kr cost 10 grand more than a Z06 and the Z06 wins every time. plus the supersnake comes with a kenne bell. the ZR1 comes with a mild eaton. so if the ZR1 came with a kenne bell. ITS GAME OVER!

  • i know that the ZR1 base is 106k but its 80k for the 540hp version its around 20 grand more than the ZR1 for the kenne bell 750hp snake. but due to how heavy it is it hits the same ET as the ZR1.

  • looking only at the prices it seems like saleen used a lot more expensive materials making it a more pure race car in terms of technology. I'm thinking along the lines of a lot of dry carbon and fiberglass. For instance seibon has an aftermarket set of doors and trunk for the mustang. The doors weigh under 10.4 lbs a piece, that's just the panel though without window, motors..etc. but still a big drop in weight. And a bunch of aftermarket fiberglass panels drops good weight too.

  • Although I am a mustang lover, and know first hand, they're all not shitty handlers (I used to push WRXs in my kenny brown cobra ... and blow by them in the straights) but Scott is right to a degree. Out of the box, their price range is within reach of alot more advanced machines. This is the reason why Saleen has gone out of business, and refuses to offer any warranty on any remaining cars.

  • I wasn't aware of that. I just bought a Stage 2 Roush2006. Which had the stage three package on it, but couldnt bare the stage 3 emblems, because there was no such thing in s197s until 07. Anyway, I love it. It still feels like it came from a racing company. The Saleen I drove, I felt like it was a BMW. They engineered to much edge out. Thanks for the info.

  • I think that's sort of what the reviewer was talking about: The Saleen was more like a "professional" Mustang.

    Personally, I'd like both to have IRS. And some BMWs are quite edgy, you just have to push them, which is why they're so acclaimed. :P

All the cars you mentioned are good, but the new stang is in large part a fasion statement Ford used to win back customers. Yeah they are too heavy, but if you know how to work on them, good American cars can do a lot. If you think nothing beats your imports, go to Detroit and race someone's camaro or stingray who knows what their doing.

  • It's all in how the parts work together. It's some combination of the weight distribution, brake balance, and drivetrain that puts the right amount of power where it's needed at the right time. The quality of engineering gives the car that edge.
