It works by compressing air inside a tube, like a bicycle pump, except that the air is trapped inside a sealed unit so the air works like a spring. The gas struts that hold up the tailgates of hatchback cars work in the same way. A gas-ram in an air rifle doesn't get tired and lose power over time, unlike a metal spring, and it is also smoother to cock and quieter to shoot. The only downside is that it costs more. Hope that answers your question. thanks, Howard
@hetrodoxly hmmm... got me there - maybe its because you would rather watch a video about a nice handgun or sporting rifle.......? - or maybe it reminds us that we have the most restrictive gun ownership laws next to Japan, and they make absolutely no improvement to gun crime statistics.
@crapzors Hello - actually, the pellets do not go supersonic by a small margin. This means that you dont get the load crack that would occur even with a silencer in place, and also the pellets are stable in flight because they do not have to transition the sound barrier during their flight. When the pellet slows to below the speed of sound, it often encounters turbulence which makes it tumble in flight.
Very nice Video. I have the next model which is the Fenman(replaced by the Evolution). Very solid rifle and the recoil is very slight if you hold it right. Lovely rifle not sure how the Evos measure up to the Fenman let alone the Olympus.
@Jiinx2 Well - actually the Fenman was a very tidy rifle, and in some ways more practical than the Olympus, which was really a target style gun. The Evolution is the latest revision of the Theoben Gas-Ram carbine, but the Fenman is a great rifle for pest control etc and I suspect that it was the last of the Theobens made to a quality standard rather than a price.
@SgtAndrewM what you can hear there is the piston hitting the forward wall of the cylinder, if you were to stand 10meters in front of it with your best mate firing it a good piece over your head you'd hardly hear a thing apart from the pellet whistling by.
trust me, because i've tried it =)
i thought exactly the same thing when i 1st got my evolution.
nice video by the way, i have watched it about 5 times now, lol. i am currently working towards a Theoben SLR or an Evolution, i dont know which yet, it depends on how much i get paid this summer

That was a very well structured and informative video, thank you. I have been looking into getting a theoben evolution with thumbhole stock, not too disimilar to your rifle. At the moment i shoot with a webley stingray 2 at the local range. Would you recogmend the evo?
Yes - the Evo is almost the re-incarnation of the Olympus - with uprated internals I expect. The olderguns would be too expensive to make now - too much hand work, so CNC machines do the work instead, and the human just assemble the parts - but I expect the result shoots just as straight.
Airguns are interesting in that most of the recoil takes place while the pellet is still in the barrel, which makes trigger technique and follow through critical to accuracy. It improves your centrfire accuracy too.
I quite agree - the 12Ft lbs limit is quite arbitrary and has no scientific validity - if you shoot someone in the eye with a gun delivering 5ft lbs, they will still be blinded. FAC air rifles are now very unfashionable since the introduction of .17HMR, they have the advantage of no ricochet - the bullet turns to dust when it hits something hard

Good comment and quite right - apologies.. However the young man has a limited budget and the HW95 I bought 5 years ago secondhand was quite expensive - they hold their value well. A very good point about triggers too - a gun with a poor trigger is going to be innaccurate, no matter how well the rest of it is made. Thanks again for the input!
Howard, very informative video. An extremely nice gun you have there. I shoot air rifles, I have an AA 400 classic and also a TX200 MkIII. They are both .177.I will NEVER part with the TX, Once I learned to hold it correctly it became an absolute joy to use. With both guns I can reasonably expect pellet on pellet at 35 yards (when I'm shooting properly!)
The reason for the TX love? It's independant, I have tuned the trigger by polishing sears & faces, it is just so sweet to shoot. ATB Duncan
elmugid there was a TX model with a silencer encorporated into the entirity of the barrel. I had a picture of it in and old air gunner mag but I've not seen it since.
yes I remember it too - never saw one - guess it was ahead of its time - now we have the TMR with integral silencer - maybe the Tx was the testbed for the all barrel moderator?
my dad has a theoben, im interested in buying an air rifle but its a jungle out there and i really dont know what to look for, can u recommend an air rifle that wont put me out of pocket?
Well, it depends what you want to do with it...A good one is always expensive - avoid the cheap Chinese made ones for a start. BSA have got a real winner with the break-barrel black ABS stocked Lightning XL Tactical - this would be good for vermin and plinking - if you want to do FT or Target then a PCP gun is a must, and they are much more expensive. I recommend that you buy Secondhand, but check the gun for obvious problems like a bent barrel! Good Luck and good shooting!
WOW!!, You guys really had your nuts removed when "the Queen" took your guns away didnt you?? If I shot that target with my Target rifle ( Armalite Ar30 300 Winn mag) It would blow the damn tree down and probably parts of the fence behind it. 12 foot pounds?/ are you kidding me?? seriously?? Mine has 100 times that. you guys need a second amendment bad. Im glad we won in the Revolutionary war. Yes...Im drunk
Sadly, you are not wrong. All it took was one lone nutter in Hungerford, and another in Dunblane, and that was the end of all handguns, semi-auto rifles above .22 rimfire and several more changes to gun ownership rights that would make you wince.
why are you comparing an airgun with a centerfire. its obvious which one has more power, and yes we definetly need a second amendment. its a shame obama wants to get rid of yours.
Tell me, when you cock the gun you let go of the barrel. I know it has an auto safety, but is it not correct practice to keep hold of it until closed again?
You are quite right - it is definitely good practice to hold the barrel while loading. In the case of the Theoben, the trigger mech is unusual in that you cannot de-cock the gun by holding back the barrel and pulling the trigger to let it down - the safety catch is locked and so is the trigger. The design locks the piston until the barrel is in the closed position, and so the gun is safe in the open position. Thanks for a very good question - you are obviously a very skilled and safe shooter.
Well, if you mean in the UK - yes its true that you can only buy an airgun with a maximum power of 12 foot Pounds of energy, if you want a more powerful one you can get it, but you have to have a special licence from the police to have one.
Good Question - When I got it it had been messed around with so I sent it to Ben Taylor & Son to have it checked out/renovated. Turned out the previous owner had pumped up the gas-ram to give about 18 ft lbs. The result was that the piston crown had burned out,and the gun was grouping badly, (vertical stringing = power fluctuations) They replaced the piston crown and re-set it to 11.8 ft lbs (with Bisley PC pellets)and it groups 1/2" at 35 yds no problem now, if I do my part. properly.
I can fire right over 20 shots and 12 accurate shots from about 35 yards with the super streak. With an Evanix ar6 that is a six shot pcp that shoots a blazing velocity of 1450 fps its easy to shoot 35 accurate shots in a minute.
For that kind of money you can get a really good rifle and\scope - as long as you dont mind a spring gun rather than a pcp. Look at the range offered by Edgar Brothers - made in Czech Repulblic or Turkey and excellent value - their scopes are amazing quality for the price as well. Also look at Gamo rifles - you get a lot of extras with them and they do really good synthetic stocks - not plasticky like some - they even do Hardwoods camo .
Well - If I could only have one air rifle - it would be a Theoben MFR Tactical - accurate, convenient and no recoil. The gas ram guns are challenging to shoot compared to a pcp, but teach you good lessons about follow through and trigger control which translate into better shooting with any kind of gun I have to admit that when rabbiting I take 2 guns with me, a gas-ram and a .22 rimfire. I use the rimfire on anything over 30 yards, and the gas-ram on everything closer. Thanks for the question.
The standard British Army rifle - the SA-80/81 - is a bullpup design and can only be fired from the right shoulder. If you tried the other way the cocking handle would smash your nose and the hot fired cases would burn your face. A left handed shot has to learn to shoot right handed in the British Army - Sniper rifles are bolt action right handed same as yours only different caliber - we dont use .50 cal (officially)
Thanks - I think quality design and manufacture speak for themselves with a gun like this - the blueing looks like deep sea water and the action is smooth as silk.
And a very fine gun it is - have you had it serviced recently? - it might be good to replace the spring and piston seals - would pep the old girl up a bit without spoiling her looks - do you use the iron sights?
Damn right! - the trick is to use both hands to hold it - if you fire it like a pistol it winds up pointing at the sky above your head, and you have a sprained wrist as well.
Good Question - the Gamo range can be a bit harsh on recoil - I had a Gamo Stutzen for a while - full length stock up to the muzzle. If you can get a gas-ram to fit then do so - the difference will amaze you! A scope will usually tell you if it is under stress - it will go off zero very often.
Thanks - actually it turns out I was half-right, it is only certain states that ban moderators - but British gunmakers never fit silencers to USA export guns for that reason - they put on "Barrel Weights" instead.
The safety is a good position all right, and you can re-apply just as easily by pulling the tang back again. AA are currently in a straight fight with Daystate over who makes the best all-round airgun - too close to call at this time.
beautiful gun i have one. and will never get rid. mine is in right hand and vortex but dose seem to have a longer barrel in 177. if you pump this gun up when servicing they are very powerful. but 12ft-lbs with the Anschütz barrels you just cannot go wrong.
good video its nice seeing I'm not the only one that appreciates this gun
Lucky you - is yours a .22? I got mine from a guy I didnt know and he had pumped up the pressure so far that the gun was harsh to shoot and innacurate. I sent it back to Ben Taylor and Son andthe fitted a new piston head - the old one was melted and burned from the heat. It came back shooting like new. One of the first airguns in the UK to use Walther and Anschutz choked barrels.
Yes - the Sheridan is very powerful - but remember that we in the UK can only have airguns up to 12ft-lbs without having to get a firearms licence - I have a licence and have a Theoben /crow Magnum at 28ft-lbs in .20 cal - a real beast of a gun.
Do you have any guns that shoot bullets aswell ? i live in the UK and i have a crosman 2100 imported from America, webley fx2000 and an old BSA Airsporter S.
I am thinking of getting a shotgun certificate so i can get into clay pigeon shooting. I have heard that getting a firearms licence is really hard to get :(
Yes - I use an Anschutz .22 rimfire for long range rabbits and crows etc. If you do not have a criminal record (speeding fines dont count)you can apply for a section 2 certificate. As long as you can convince the firearms officer who comes to interview you that you are going to shoot clay pigeons and not rob banks you whould get your licence. Once you have a section 2 cert you can apply for a firearms (Sect 1) cert but you have to show a good reason to own a firearm, and somewhere to shoot it
well - you could get a custom stock made for a Theoben or Weirauch HW 90 by Gary Cane in the UK - most of the Theoben guns are ambidextrous stocks in any case - but a true thumbhole left hand stock is very nice
Thank you - its comments like yours that make me want to do more videos - is there anything you would like a video about - shotguns, rifles Game shooting etc etc?
Agree with you totally but I thinbk they will go on for a while - Ben Taylor (the BEN in THEOBEN) is still doing custom work as well as designing the nex FX range, and also has amazing new rifling system that could revolutionise air gunning.
You have encouraged me so much i am now a PCP member and have bought an AirArms S400 classic.I will start off with the simple single shot as i am only using it for targets,i love the Theoben and already have my eye on a few models.Looking forward to seeing your next vid.
I am fairly new to adult air rifles and you are the type of person on youtub e vids i love to watch and listen.great presentation and very thorough explaining.great camera work too!! did you work at bbc? lol..well done thankyou.
Thanks for your encouragement! All the kind comments I have received have inspired me to make more videos. I am working on one right now about the truly awesome Theoben Eliminator in .20 cal - FAC rated 28ft lbs. Watch this space!
Dont Laugh - thats what it looks like - there is convenient groove all around the tip of the EVO silencer - I put a neoprene ring on there to stop the gun slipping over if I leaned it against a wall!
you make a good point about the Eliminator - at factory spec (mine is .20 cal)it is a beast to shoot accurately - breathing and hold must be perfect. Mine has the all-metal piston unit - your acetal crown - does it burn up? - sounds like a great idea - detune until it is a manageable gun - power without accuracy is pointless. Great comment - thank you HMD
Hi Stillair1 - Thank you for that info - when you think about it - allowing for inflation - that gun was very expensive back in 97 - Theobens have never been cheap - but are probably more affordable now.
that barrel looks like as if it is ony 25-30 cm long? is that right? because im going to gunsmith me my own air rifle and my barrel is going to be 65 cm long. twice as accurate really good barrel i have bought (82€)from the german trade mark Lothar Walther. hope you can show us some long range shooting next time
The Walther barrels are top-notch, they are slightly choked at the muzzle end - so never shorten one from the muzzle end! You are right - the barrel is very short - but long enough to get 11.5 ft lbs from a Crosman Premier pellet - and it leaves the barrel in still air. - good luck with your project - maybe do a vid of it in progress? - we would all like to see it I am sure - watch your barrel pressure curves - you might find a shorter barrel is more efficient.
This rifle has been serviced by Ben Taylor to as-new spec, and averages 890fps with RWS Hobby Pellets. These rifles are deliberately sub-sonic for accuracy reasons. The scope bell is 50mm - anything larger wont fit the fixed Theoben "Dampa-Mount" one-piece scope base. The Dampa mount cushions the shock to the scope on recoil and is verysolid. Hope this helps you. H
An excellent video. I must ask you about the range and other performance specs, and the price. Is the data available from Theoben? Where might they be available for sale? I am in Canada and silencers are available both here and in America, but which ones? Is there a reason why this is not? And, finally, I am inexperienced as to why there is the gold section at the fore end of the silencer. Why is that? Thank you in advance for an excellent and insightful video and for what you can tell me.
Thank you for your kind comment - more videos coming soon about .20 cal Theoben Crow Magnum (Eliminator in UK), using special Eliminator bullets from Theoben.
Nice video well produced,me and my farther recently bought ourselfs a Gunpower stealth and are amazed at the build and shooting quality it offers this was prompted by us dusting of our 20 od year old bsa meteor.
did you get an FAC one or 12Ftlbs? - I tried an FAC rated Stealth about a year ago at Bisley last year and I have to say it was most impressive, in accuracy, quietness and sheer power. Like the SKAN multi-shot, which is similar in some respects, Gunpower have really re-invented the airgun for the 21st Century. I want one.
We have the 12flb one which suits our hunting needs for rabbits and birds in the Highlands. We bought a JSR 3-9x40 px adj illuminated scope which complements the gun nicely but we also need to get hold of some high mounts due to the gun's configuration(stock bottle) as eye relief is not as good as it could be.
(See Previous comment)I say RUIN YOUR GUN, because 1. you will make it woefully innaccurate. 2. You will MELT the piston crown - and you will, after less than 50 shots, have an innacurate airgun that is shooting around 8ft lbs. If you send it back to Theoben or Ben Taylors for servicing, they will de-gas your ram back to the correct pressure while charging you a tidy sum for a new piston head. If you want a 28ftlb airgun, get a section 1 firearm licence and buy a Theoben Eliminator (I did)
A gas-ram is like the device that holds the door open in a hatchback car- a spring that uses air pressure, not a metal spring. Very reliable and consistent. you can get Gas -Ram Units by Theoben to fit most spring airguns, and the difference is well worth the expense.
Basically, a Gas-Ram is smoother to shoot, doesnt get tired if you leave the gun cocked for a long time, like when hunting for example, and is much quieter. If you add that it is factory-set to give you much more legal power than a spring, and is much easier to cock, you have some idea why they are so superior. Get one. End of story.

Theoben guns, I like them.
They are powerfull and well made.
Only pitty of the price tag ;-)
Which is quite high. For a budget Gas-Ram by the way take a look at the Crossman NPSS. Replace the trigger and you have a good to go Gas-Ram system.

my dad has a theoben, im interested in buying an air rifle but its a jungle out there and i really dont know what to look for, can u recommend an air rifle that wont put me out of pocket?
guardian891 3 years ago

Yes...Im drunk
armedtotheteeth1974 3 years ago
Sadly, you are not wrong. All it took was one lone nutter in Hungerford, and another in Dunblane, and that was the end of all handguns, semi-auto rifles above .22 rimfire and several more changes to gun ownership rights that would make you wince.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
why are you comparing an airgun with a centerfire. its obvious which one has more power, and yes we definetly need a second amendment. its a shame obama wants to get rid of yours.

Nice Video.
Tell me, when you cock the gun you let go of the barrel. I know it has an auto safety, but is it not correct practice to keep hold of it until closed again?
Jes437 3 years ago
You are quite right - it is definitely good practice to hold the barrel while loading. In the case of the Theoben, the trigger mech is unusual in that you cannot de-cock the gun by holding back the barrel and pulling the trigger to let it down - the safety catch is locked and so is the trigger. The design locks the piston until the barrel is in the closed position, and so the gun is safe in the open position. Thanks for a very good question - you are obviously a very skilled and safe shooter.

Nice gun, i have an air rifle which cost me £70,
is it true if that you cant find the make of the gun there more leathel ?
stewiegriff07 3 years ago
Well, if you mean in the UK - yes its true that you can only buy an airgun with a maximum power of 12 foot Pounds of energy, if you want a more powerful one you can get it, but you have to have a special licence from the police to have one.

oxlefoxel 3 years ago
Good Question - When I got it it had been messed around with so I sent it to Ben Taylor & Son to have it checked out/renovated. Turned out the previous owner had pumped up the gas-ram to give about 18 ft lbs. The result was that the piston crown had burned out,and the gun was grouping badly, (vertical stringing = power fluctuations) They replaced the piston crown and re-set it to 11.8 ft lbs (with Bisley PC pellets)and it groups 1/2" at 35 yds no problem now, if I do my part. properly.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
Whats the power of this gun seeing as it was made before the strict 12 ft/lb limit came in?
Terminator860 3 years ago
I can fire right over 20 shots and 12 accurate shots from about 35 yards with the super streak. With an Evanix ar6 that is a six shot pcp that shoots a blazing velocity of 1450 fps its easy to shoot 35 accurate shots in a minute.

Can you please suggest an effective air rifle with scope, to hunt rabbits? (in the region of £200-300)
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thank you.
Billybreezerboy 3 years ago
For that kind of money you can get a really good rifle and\scope - as long as you dont mind a spring gun rather than a pcp. Look at the range offered by Edgar Brothers - made in Czech Repulblic or Turkey and excellent value - their scopes are amazing quality for the price as well. Also look at Gamo rifles - you get a lot of extras with them and they do really good synthetic stocks - not plasticky like some - they even do Hardwoods camo .
howardmaryon 3 years ago
Good video. Which do you prefer, gas ram or pre-charged and why?
Cherokee15676 3 years ago
Well - If I could only have one air rifle - it would be a Theoben MFR Tactical - accurate, convenient and no recoil. The gas ram guns are challenging to shoot compared to a pcp, but teach you good lessons about follow through and trigger control which translate into better shooting with any kind of gun I have to admit that when rabbiting I take 2 guns with me, a gas-ram and a .22 rimfire. I use the rimfire on anything over 30 yards, and the gas-ram on everything closer. Thanks for the question.

in the us military they dont let leftys be snipers
limeheadrickey 3 years ago
The standard British Army rifle - the SA-80/81 - is a bullpup design and can only be fired from the right shoulder. If you tried the other way the cocking handle would smash your nose and the hot fired cases would burn your face. A left handed shot has to learn to shoot right handed in the British Army - Sniper rifles are bolt action right handed same as yours only different caliber - we dont use .50 cal (officially)

And a very fine gun it is - have you had it serviced recently? - it might be good to replace the spring and piston seals - would pep the old girl up a bit without spoiling her looks - do you use the iron sights?

sawn off shot gun give some recoil
betheviper 3 years ago
Damn right! - the trick is to use both hands to hold it - if you fire it like a pistol it winds up pointing at the sky above your head, and you have a sprained wrist as well.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
hey i got a Gamo whisper should i buy a gas spring for it and is it easier on the scope?
dove0hunter 3 years ago
Good Question - the Gamo range can be a bit harsh on recoil - I had a Gamo Stutzen for a while - full length stock up to the muzzle. If you can get a gas-ram to fit then do so - the difference will amaze you! A scope will usually tell you if it is under stress - it will go off zero very often.

I like the Garand type saftey, but is seem a bit load for hunting!? AA and Theoben are what impresses me most from the UK airgun industry!
Axbent 3 years ago
The safety is a good position all right, and you can re-apply just as easily by pulling the tang back again. AA are currently in a straight fight with Daystate over who makes the best all-round airgun - too close to call at this time.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
beautiful gun i have one. and will never get rid. mine is in right hand and vortex but dose seem to have a longer barrel in 177. if you pump this gun up when servicing they are very powerful. but 12ft-lbs with the Anschütz barrels you just cannot go wrong.
good video its nice seeing I'm not the only one that appreciates this gun
jolif1976 3 years ago
Lucky you - is yours a .22? I got mine from a guy I didnt know and he had pumped up the pressure so far that the gun was harsh to shoot and innacurate. I sent it back to Ben Taylor and Son andthe fitted a new piston head - the old one was melted and burned from the heat. It came back shooting like new. One of the first airguns in the UK to use Walther and Anschutz choked barrels.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
Yes - the Sheridan is very powerful - but remember that we in the UK can only have airguns up to 12ft-lbs without having to get a firearms licence - I have a licence and have a Theoben /crow Magnum at 28ft-lbs in .20 cal - a real beast of a gun.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
Do you have any guns that shoot bullets aswell ? i live in the UK and i have a crosman 2100 imported from America, webley fx2000 and an old BSA Airsporter S.
I am thinking of getting a shotgun certificate so i can get into clay pigeon shooting. I have heard that getting a firearms licence is really hard to get :(
jellyking12345 3 years ago
Yes - I use an Anschutz .22 rimfire for long range rabbits and crows etc. If you do not have a criminal record (speeding fines dont count)you can apply for a section 2 certificate. As long as you can convince the firearms officer who comes to interview you that you are going to shoot clay pigeons and not rob banks you whould get your licence. Once you have a section 2 cert you can apply for a firearms (Sect 1) cert but you have to show a good reason to own a firearm, and somewhere to shoot it
howardmaryon 3 years ago
well you cant please all the people all the time - why dont you do one of your own?
howardmaryon 3 years ago
well - you could get a custom stock made for a Theoben or Weirauch HW 90 by Gary Cane in the UK - most of the Theoben guns are ambidextrous stocks in any case - but a true thumbhole left hand stock is very nice
howardmaryon 3 years ago
It reminds me of the american benjamin sheridan super streak, but the benjamin is much more powerful.

Beautiful rifle. Hopefully they don't sell out to Turkey like Webely did.
samoyed72 3 years ago
Agree with you totally but I thinbk they will go on for a while - Ben Taylor (the BEN in THEOBEN) is still doing custom work as well as designing the nex FX range, and also has amazing new rifling system that could revolutionise air gunning.

Dont think they will while they are selling as many as they can make - but good comment and I agree with you - if its not Turkey it could be China!

Good shootin'! Curious, what is the rubber o-ring at the end of the evo silencer? I miss my Theobens when I had them.
varmintgetter 3 years ago
Dont Laugh - thats what it looks like - there is convenient groove all around the tip of the EVO silencer - I put a neoprene ring on there to stop the gun slipping over if I leaned it against a wall!
howardmaryon 3 years ago
Thanks for this Dampa mounts are becoming unneccesary with modern super tough scopes
howardmaryon 3 years ago
you make a good point about the Eliminator - at factory spec (mine is .20 cal)it is a beast to shoot accurately - breathing and hold must be perfect. Mine has the all-metal piston unit - your acetal crown - does it burn up? - sounds like a great idea - detune until it is a manageable gun - power without accuracy is pointless. Great comment - thank you HMD
howardmaryon 3 years ago
Hi Howard
Price of an olympus in 97 was £504 with evo, dampa was an extra £44
stillair1 3 years ago
Hi Stillair1 - Thank you for that info - when you think about it - allowing for inflation - that gun was very expensive back in 97 - Theobens have never been cheap - but are probably more affordable now.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
that barrel looks like as if it is ony 25-30 cm long? is that right? because im going to gunsmith me my own air rifle and my barrel is going to be 65 cm long. twice as accurate really good barrel i have bought (82€)from the german trade mark Lothar Walther. hope you can show us some long range shooting next time
erklaerbaer01 3 years ago
The Walther barrels are top-notch, they are slightly choked at the muzzle end - so never shorten one from the muzzle end! You are right - the barrel is very short - but long enough to get 11.5 ft lbs from a Crosman Premier pellet - and it leaves the barrel in still air. - good luck with your project - maybe do a vid of it in progress? - we would all like to see it I am sure - watch your barrel pressure curves - you might find a shorter barrel is more efficient.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
I am working on the Eliminator vid now - stay tuned! Why don't you like the Fenman?
howardmaryon 3 years ago
very nice air rifle, what is the fps rating on it? and what size lens is on the scope?
bizzle187 3 years ago
This rifle has been serviced by Ben Taylor to as-new spec, and averages 890fps with RWS Hobby Pellets. These rifles are deliberately sub-sonic for accuracy reasons. The scope bell is 50mm - anything larger wont fit the fixed Theoben "Dampa-Mount" one-piece scope base. The Dampa mount cushions the shock to the scope on recoil and is verysolid. Hope this helps you. H
howardmaryon 3 years ago
An excellent video. I must ask you about the range and other performance specs, and the price. Is the data available from Theoben? Where might they be available for sale? I am in Canada and silencers are available both here and in America, but which ones? Is there a reason why this is not? And, finally, I am inexperienced as to why there is the gold section at the fore end of the silencer. Why is that? Thank you in advance for an excellent and insightful video and for what you can tell me.

Hi Howard
Nice video well produced,me and my farther recently bought ourselfs a Gunpower stealth and are amazed at the build and shooting quality it offers this was prompted by us dusting of our 20 od year old bsa meteor.
thought i'd share that with you.
Keep up the vids :)
thehankachief 3 years ago
did you get an FAC one or 12Ftlbs? - I tried an FAC rated Stealth about a year ago at Bisley last year and I have to say it was most impressive, in accuracy, quietness and sheer power. Like the SKAN multi-shot, which is similar in some respects, Gunpower have really re-invented the airgun for the 21st Century. I want one.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
We have the 12flb one which suits our hunting needs for rabbits and birds in the Highlands. We bought a JSR 3-9x40 px adj illuminated scope which complements the gun nicely but we also need to get hold of some high mounts due to the gun's configuration(stock bottle) as eye relief is not as good as it could be.
thehankachief 3 years ago
(See Previous comment)I say RUIN YOUR GUN, because 1. you will make it woefully innaccurate. 2. You will MELT the piston crown - and you will, after less than 50 shots, have an innacurate airgun that is shooting around 8ft lbs. If you send it back to Theoben or Ben Taylors for servicing, they will de-gas your ram back to the correct pressure while charging you a tidy sum for a new piston head. If you want a 28ftlb airgun, get a section 1 firearm licence and buy a Theoben Eliminator (I did)
howardmaryon 3 years ago
hey man can you tell me what a gas ram is? i wanna get one for my BSA Lightning :D
(didnt watch the vid fully soz if it explain in there)
weaverflytyer 3 years ago
A gas-ram is like the device that holds the door open in a hatchback car- a spring that uses air pressure, not a metal spring. Very reliable and consistent. you can get Gas -Ram Units by Theoben to fit most spring airguns, and the difference is well worth the expense.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
whats the differences?
weaverflytyer 3 years ago
Basically, a Gas-Ram is smoother to shoot, doesnt get tired if you leave the gun cocked for a long time, like when hunting for example, and is much quieter. If you add that it is factory-set to give you much more legal power than a spring, and is much easier to cock, you have some idea why they are so superior. Get one. End of story.
howardmaryon 3 years ago
hard to believe it is 15 years old, it has quite a modern design to it. how much would one have paid for this rifle back then?
